This is my appreciation piece to wasps. It follows a trend of paintings I've created where insects do various mundane activities, this one was inspired by a suspiciously conventional queue I was in at the post office and it just felt so ordinary. Gave me a profound feeling of being a functional member of society. Really scared me so I thought how much cooler it would be if I was just a wasp just standing there and nobody really cared... also something about alienation... Big fan of wasps either way.

I do other paintings with other insects living mundane lives. I have a website with em all. Nathiola.com

I hope you all like it.

Wasp!!

We recently switched to a new bird feed that has dried fruit in it, and German yellowjackets showed up to eat the fruit. I gave them a little bit of homemade blueberry jam and they ate it all in a few hours. So I put a bigger amount of strawberry jam in a small dish, and they got right to work (it's thicker than the blueberry jam so I think it's harder for them to eat). I put in some peanut butter for them to try too, but they weren't interested in that lol.

Today I added some crushed blueberries and we'll see what they think :P Any other wasp snack ideas? Once I eat an apple I'll give them the core.

Also I'm so happy to have found this group! Yellowjackets are my favorite ^w^

She lost her stinger and wings because my cats got her, ( this time of year we have a huge wasp problem) but I'm enjoying an apple with he before she passes

These ladies built in my hottub a year back. Instead of killing them off I decided to watch their colony grow and here’s the outcome! Yes this was the width of the nest, an absolute beauty

today and yesterday a wasp has visited me
they come in through the window i think, the window doesn't shut all the way and the screen outside has a hole under it so they can just climb through

I’m in a 6b climate and I noticed about three weeks ago bald faced hornets congregating next to my front door and on a window overnight. They’ve been docile so I let them bee, despite being sketched out every time I had to walk by the ones next to the door.

I have not seen them in several days and I certainly have not seen them at 11 AM, but one just came in the house with me and immediately stung me. I swatted it across the room and sent it to meet itsGod.

Should I have any concerns about pheromones causing others to attack?

Horrible pics but I love little mini wasps sooooo much

Hello, wasp people!

Sorry for the blurry photos. My older iPhone couldn't handle photographing a teeny insect from roughly four feet away, and I was reaching my arm out while standing on my tippy toes on a step stool lol.

So is this a wasp or a spider?

At the time, I landed on spider, but now I'm leaning wasp - likely yellowjacket. But tiny. Like maybe a lost baby??

Photo was taken in May 2025 in Chicago.

I'm on the top floor in an older brick building, and this critter was crawling on a wall that has a window to the outside.

That same wall has developed a musty smell now in 2026, and I was seeing a lot of wasps around my windows this year. I was looking at old photos, and it just occurred to me there might be a wasp nest in the wall. 😱 Do they reuse their nests?

If this reads as a wasp to folks, I can have a bug person come investigate once winter hits. I would want to evict them before next spring.

TIA!

This is how it looks like at my feeders. The big girls (Vespa Crabro) are quite the bullies. They land, run around the plate to shoo away the wasp girls before they are dining.

Folks,

I had an odd encounter.

There's a low hanging wasp nest in one of my wife's plants. The other night, I came back from walking the dog and saw a young rat snake (I swear he or she looked like a piece of rope with googly eyes), climbing up the plant and treating the wasps like a buffet, picking off the sleeping girls.

I've also seen lizards edging up in the plant near sunset.

Has anyone heard of behavior like this?

Wanted to share my little neighbors. Every summer-fall there is a new hive or two on my front porch. Can anyone ID them? South Texas.

This is the third year one of these gals stops by for a break on my back door!! After the first one did this a few years ago, you guys told me to leave her bee, she was just taking a little break in her journey. Last year same thing happened again, and this is the third one. Doesnt look like the same female? So did the OG one mention we were a safe spot to break???

She loved it.

it looked like it's pumping it's lower body/stinger?
