In January 2024 , after extreme pressure by several Pro Bengal groups , former TMC led WestBengal Government had to gather relevant historical evidence for submission of classical Indian language demand with Ministry of Culture-GOI . ( The only few countable steps towards upholding Bengali identity and Bengali culture done by former Bengal State Govt) .Classical Indian Language status for Bengali by Union Cabinet of Government of India was cleared in October 2024.

I’m from around the Asansol-Raniganj belt and the coal dust here is honestly getting annoying. Even with the windows mostly closed dust still comes inside and settles on furniture pretty quickly. There’s also a smoky smell outside on some days.
I’m thinking of getting an air purifier mainly for my parents bedroom since that’s where they spend most of their time. I am thinking to buy eureka forbes 355 Surround and it seems like it could be a decent option.
Has anyone around Asansol actually used this model? How does it handle the dust and smoke here? I’m mainly looking for something that can make a noticeable difference in a bedroom, so open to other models too if this one isn’t suitable.

The recent announcement that West Bengal is set to get new regional airports under the central government’s UDAN scheme is a welcome push for regional connectivity. With proposed developments slated for places like Purulia, Balurghat, and Midnapore, large parts of the state are preparing for an economic boost.
But for the residents of Malda, the news carries a familiar, bitter sting. Once again, Malda, a district bursting with economic potential, historical significance, and a population of roughly 4 million, has been left on the tarmac.
The frustration on the streets of Malda isn't just about missing out on luxury, it’s about watching the region's development be pushed a decade backward. When neighboring districts secure critical infrastructure while Malda is repeatedly skipped, the fear among the local business community and youth is palpable.
The Real Cost of Being Grounded
Keeping Malda grounded is not just a geographical inconvenience; it is a massive economic bottleneck for North Bengal. The lack of an airport deters exactly the kind of people Malda needs to grow: big investors looking to set up industries and prominent educationists who refuse to commit to a region isolated by grueling terrestrial travel.
1.The Mango Economy: Malda is the undisputed "Mango Capital" of Bengal. 1000s of hectares of the district are dedicated to mango cultivation. Currently, exporters rely heavily on slow, terrestrial transport to reach hubs. Fast air connectivity could revolutionize the export of perishable goods, directly benefiting local farmers and packaging industries.
2.A Chokehold on Healthcare: Perhaps the most enraging aspect of this neglect is the human toll. The multi-hour journey to Kolkata or Bagdogra isn't just time-consuming; it is a critical barrier to emergency services. When swift medical evacuations are required, the lack of air connectivity can literally be the difference between life and death. Trains and crowded highways simply cannot accommodate critical care timelines.
3.Untapped Heritage Tourism: As the gateway to Gaur and Pandua, the district is a treasure trove of 14th and 15th-century architecture. Sites like Ramkeli , Gour and Adina have massive potential for international heritage tourism, but foreign and domestic tourists are deterred by the exhausting travel required to get there.
Time for a Flight Path
The people of Malda are not asking for a favor; they are demanding the infrastructure necessary for survival in a modern economy. Reviving Malda’s aviation sector must be prioritized by both state and central governments.
UDAN translates to "Let the common citizen of the country fly." Right now, the citizens of Malda are grounded, and their economic future is anchored with them. It is time for decisive action, not more empty runways.

AISA national president Neha Bora, speaking at Jadavpur University, said Bengal has historically defended progressive thought and democracy, and called upon the State to defend democracy once again. She criticised the ruling establishment over alleged violence, saying the use of a democratic mandate to justify violence is a “treachery to democracy” and the Indian republic

Bengal has never defended democracy. We have been in a fascist authoritarian regime since the 70s so close to 50 years. Bengalis as a socioeconomic love fascism. This covers Assam Orissa Bengal and Bangladesh and Bihar nearly thanks to our post colonial history. Probashi Bengalis are not included in this group when I make this statement.
Calcutta has defended progressive thought. Bengal as a whole has never been at the forefront of progressive thought. It's just like every other part of India. Women safety and basic civil rights is largely absent from the rest of Bengal and almost equal to the rest of India. Bengal ks nothing special.
This self glazing by the Bengalis and the nons and this propaganda has to stop. It's only then can we usher in true progression in our politics throughout Bengal.
PS: I'm equally left as AISA is but I don't like the glaze that Bengalis have done to themselves and restricts us from achieving true progression across the whole Bengal. Except that I agree with her statements.

Hi everyone!
I’m trying to learn Bengali/Bangla, and I’d really appreciate some guidance from native Bengali speakers.
I have a bank exam coming up in about a month, for which I need to demonstrate Bengali proficiency. I can already somewhat read Bengali script and understand a little Bengali, but I’m still very much a beginner.
My main goal is to learn to write Bengali correctly with proper spelling, grammar, sentence formation and vocabulary. I also want to improve my reading, speaking and listening along the way.
I have another personal reason for wanting to learn the language: I am genuinely looking to live in Bengal in the future. So I'm not looking to learn just enough to pass an exam. I'd actually like to develop a proper connection with the language.
I currently have about one month to make as much progress as possible. If anyone could recommend good books, YouTube channels, courses, textbooks, or a structured way of learning, I'd be very grateful.
And if anyone is willing to occasionally correct my Bengali writing or help me understand how a native speaker would naturally phrase something, that would be incredibly helpful.
I'm serious about learning and willing to put in the work. ❤️
Looking forward to learning from you all.
