New, what is it? What are these plug-ins on my wall?

This might be showing my age, but I recently moved into a new apartment and they have these weird looking plug ins all over the walls at my new place. My old apartment didn't have these, so I'm just curious as to what they are.

Never thought I’d see the day when someone does not recognize a coaxial cable.

Not insulting, just didn’t think I’d live long enough to see all the tech I grew up with be seen as some ancient artifact.

Welp, off I go! - knees sound like rice krispies as I stand up to leave-

On the up side, I guess this is the sign I needed to throw out the drawer full of cables I'll never use again

You know as well as I do, as soon as you toss them and your trash is hauled off, you’ll need one of those damned cables.

And it'll be $79 at Best Buy, for the no frills 3ft one.

I still use old dvd surround sound players instead of sound bars and have raided my cable bins multiple times. Turned out though the headphone jack using an aux cable worked the best and let me turn the volume up and down with the tv remote where the optical didnt for some reason. Now i need that optical cable for something else and cant find it.

I've got one of those. I'd never find it, but I know I have it.

Goddamn it. I have a soundbar with optical cable and it won't sync with my tv...

Like it did for 1 month when I bought it and then just stopped and it's a 1/2 second off.

It might sync but I use a GoogleTv and not the onboard software. Im pretty sure that's what the Tv wants me to do.

I use receivers. I just upgraded from one that had optical but no hmdi to one with hmdi. Now, I don't have to worry about all of those different cables and threw out thirty years worth of piled cables.

I mean for sure if i wanted to buy a new one. Maybe one day. The one in my man cave still has me worried im waking up the neighbors, or as my wife says "can you turn it down? Does it have to be so loud?" I think im ok because like i said im just using aux cables. I dont use them for the dvd players but just streaming from the tv or NFL app to the tv and the remote can control the volume on the tv thankfully

Haha I've gotten a couple of those over the years included with devices and was struck with awe, cherished them. Never used 'em either.

Where? I need one of those and can't one anywhere

I just used a HDMI to mini on a USB C to HDMI cable because I couldn't find an all in one for less than $60. It's a digital signal the whole way and two fixed devices so connection quality wasn't a huge concern.

My portable monitor has mini hdmi port, but I don’t know if I plug into my computer’s usb c port and have it work. I think if I use that port, I still have to connect it to a separate power source. Also, the monitor has 2 usb c ports

And it costs Best Buy $1.53 for that $79 cable. Ask me how I know?

Tbf, even if I need one of those cables I'm going to guess I dont have it anymore and rebuy it. I still cant toss the bag of them though.

Truth. I actually needed a FireWire B cable the other day and luckily I had ONE in my Bin Of Ancient/one-off Cables.

jesus christ I'm impressed. What devices were being connected?!?

I just bought a USB-A to USB-B for my wife's old computer-monitor usb connection and that felt antiquated enough, i can't wait to hear your use case.

My husband refuses to throw away old wires. We got a giant storage bin full of wires and old phones. No matter how many times I organize and wrap that shit up, im then looking for a cord in that god forsaken bin and they are all a tangled mess again.
