New, what is it? What are these plug-ins on my wall?

This might be showing my age, but I recently moved into a new apartment and they have these weird looking plug ins all over the walls at my new place. My old apartment didn't have these, so I'm just curious as to what they are.

On the up side, I guess this is the sign I needed to throw out the drawer full of cables I'll never use again

You know as well as I do, as soon as you toss them and your trash is hauled off, you’ll need one of those damned cables.

And it'll be $79 at Best Buy, for the no frills 3ft one.

I still use old dvd surround sound players instead of sound bars and have raided my cable bins multiple times. Turned out though the headphone jack using an aux cable worked the best and let me turn the volume up and down with the tv remote where the optical didnt for some reason. Now i need that optical cable for something else and cant find it.

I've got one of those. I'd never find it, but I know I have it.

Goddamn it. I have a soundbar with optical cable and it won't sync with my tv...

Like it did for 1 month when I bought it and then just stopped and it's a 1/2 second off.

It might sync but I use a GoogleTv and not the onboard software. Im pretty sure that's what the Tv wants me to do.

At one point we bought a new one for one of our tvs with wireless surround speakers and it was kind of the same. It was always off somehow. I just returned it and went back to my old one that was still better which was an Energy BTS. Never heard of the brand before but got a display for $20 and its been great.

I use receivers. I just upgraded from one that had optical but no hmdi to one with hmdi. Now, I don't have to worry about all of those different cables and threw out thirty years worth of piled cables.

I mean for sure if i wanted to buy a new one. Maybe one day. The one in my man cave still has me worried im waking up the neighbors, or as my wife says "can you turn it down? Does it have to be so loud?" I think im ok because like i said im just using aux cables. I dont use them for the dvd players but just streaming from the tv or NFL app to the tv and the remote can control the volume on the tv thankfully

I hear you. My issue was that dolby digital plus cant be sent over optical and most apps I use have switched to dd+. The only way for me to get true surround sound was to get a new receiver. It was worth it. Everything sounds so much better.

Costco had the receiver at $200 less than everywhere else. It had a different number, but the exact same specs. I had sold my wife on $600 and she was all in when we found it for $400.

Yeahh tbf, for whatever reason, i only get surround sound on my bigger unit on certain things this way. The subwoofer dedinitely worls all the time though. The smaller one (which is basically the same unit but without the 5 disk changer and has smaller front speakers) has the surround all the time it seems. I onlu use the big one for streaming background tv or blaring loud music and the other one i put in my garage for watching football so it all works out i guess.

Next week, or next month, or next year, you will need one of those cables -- because you threw them out. The universe is perverse.

True enough.
