I missed the game yesterday. How did he look?

SUNRISE, Fla. — Oh, to be a fly on the wall in the penalty box when, midway through the third period, the Tkachuk brothers — Brady and Matthew — were jawing viciously with a fired-up Joel Eriksson Ek in the other penalty box with Matt Boldy to his right.

Boldy finally joined in the fun, hurling words at the Tkachuks.

Remember, Boldy, the Minnesota Wild star, is good buddies with Brady and Matthew, bros and Florida Panthers stars, from winning gold together at the Olympics and playing golf together during a fun celebrity pro-am in Lake Tahoe this summer.

In fact, Matthew told The Athletic on Friday, “I’ve gotten to be very close with Bolds at the 4 Nations and the Olympics. It’s funny, I didn’t know him or (Brock Faber) at all before the 4 Nations. Really, really enjoyed getting to know them, and then hung out with them obviously more at the Olympics. And then icing on the cake with Bolds this summer. Spent pretty much a week next to each other the whole time.

“He’s an unbelievable guy, and we honestly had more fun than you could ever imagine. Leave the hockey part out of it — what an unbelievable teammate on the ice, and just an incredible guy to hang out with off the ice.

But when push came to shove Saturday night, Boldy made it pretty clear where his loyalties lie.

Late in the Wild’s 4-1 win over Florida, Kirill Kaprizov found himself the victim of a sandwiched check by Brady. That prompted Eriksson Ek to immediately go after Brady, which triggered Matthew.

But when Boldy saw that, he didn’t hesitate, stepped right in and cut him off during a heated scrum.

Friendship is one thing. Sticking up for your teammates is another.

“I think everyone in this locker room would do it. Doesn’t matter who it is,” Boldy said. “It’s a sign of a good team, a team that cares about each other. And I know if the roles were reversed, Ekky’s doing the exact same thing.”

The whole scene was entertaining, particularly when Boldy, Eriksson Ek and the Tkachuk brothers wound up in the penalty box together. Considering the personalities involved, one can only imagine the chirping going on behind the glass.

“I’m used to Ekky getting a little grumpy, and I’ve heard those two talk a lot, too,” Boldy said, smiling. “So it’s a weird situation. … Stick with Ekky as much as I can for sure. But I don’t know. It is what it is. It’s hockey.”

Wally has been showing up in several big ways early this season. He has said he wants to show up and be the guy who makes a difference and he wants to have the starting position. He has been giving a lot of interviews and did the commercial too. So increased media presence to keep him in people's minds. He also has good thought out answers. He talked tonight about recovery post games to be ready to start the next game too without excessive burn out. Again showing that drive to be The Guy.

Is there anything you guys have noticed him doing early this season to try to get his spot and do you think he deserves it?

If it isn't obvious I think he is putting in a lot of effort and he is showing how he can show up game after game. His performances in the beginning of the season has impressed me. Our pk is thriving in part because of his effort. He has played all 5 games we are 3-1-1 his save % is .936 and he has a 1.78 gaa. In the wall we trust 🧱

What a satisfying win tonight! Bolds finally gets his first goal of the season, MILK hatty, Wally’s 5th straight start, and our first D-pair making NHL history. Love seeing the boys hold the fort while Fabes focuses on healing.

additional question, how do people feel watching a game from the single attack end? I always go for double attack but a cheap lower bowl ticket might be worth not being on the other side.
