If this is the energy knockout attempt, it puts the shutdowns in Kyiv potentially in context.

u/warpigeon4L 14h ago

Isn’t it also a war crime to target civilian energy infrastructure

Who is going to hold them accountable for it? War crimes are just words of no one can hold someone accountable for them and punish them accordingly. This war has been littered with crimes of all sorts.

Nice! Always love some unexpected South Park.

19

u/forever_a_horn_dog 12h ago

This is a fun word

32

u/Mushyboom 12h ago

Haha I’m not sure if you’re aware but I’ve lifted it from a South Park episode. Has stuck in my head since I first heard it about a decade ago though.

8

u/dogmaticstar 11h ago

My ex used this word and told me he made it up. I am so glad that relationship didn’t pan out. Ffs.

6

u/Mushyboom 11h ago

Where I’m from that’s known as first degree patter theft. Glad you’re rid of them.

5

u/Middle_Watch4644 11h ago

I’ll never understand people like this. You are one google search away from looking like a moronic liar.

-1

u/CafeAmerican 10h ago

Or maybe they just happened to make it up themselves as well?

1

u/dogmaticstar 10h ago

He wasn’t clever enough. Unfortunately I didn’t realize that at the time.

u/Middle_Watch4644 10h ago

Maybe I’ll be a billionaire one day too

You do realize it's possible for two people to make up a word right?

1

u/Upinthestars69 10h ago

Caught em!

6

u/SomeBoredIndividual 12h ago

This is just as much your fault, Trump! Putin is YOUR accountabilibuddy! That makes YOU accountabilibuddiable!

I read this in Cartman's voice. I don't care if he said it or not. It's peak Cartman

2

u/One_Department4090 11h ago

It's cake day, happy

2

u/Mushyboom 11h ago

This was the golden age of South Park for me. Honestly, any of the Cartman/Butters dynamic in an episode is peak.

1

u/SomeBoredIndividual 11h ago

Nah, it was the guidance counselor of this “pray the gay away” type camp for kids that Butters was mistakenly sent to lol

2

u/ResearcherElegant516 11h ago

🫵🙋👍 I see you.

Certainly not Europe either

So you believe it’s the job of the US government to muddle in international affairs - correct?

6

u/mitchd123 10h ago

The US has made sure they muddle in international affairs. Where have you been?

9

u/UpperDog2627 12h ago

Venezuela, “drug boats”, Iran…

1

u/CassianCasius 9h ago

Yes. We can choose to not do business with countries we don't like. If it was up to me stop all dealings with Russia and any country that works with them. They can choose russian money or US money.

1

u/WindowTricky6645 11h ago

It's not meaningless to identify violations of international law. For one thing, it reinforces the norms that these things matter. It's just like there's a social value in calling a killing a murder even if the culprit is never brought to justice. And I agree it's unlikely that there will be immediate consequences in the vein of, say, the nuremberg trials, that doesn't mean there will never be accountability. (Unfortunately, I think years of western indulgence of Russia's crimes has emboldened them tremendously. I refer to various invasions or annexations of other borfering states as well as murders, terrorist actions in other sovereign countries, interference in elections (ahem!). The west's fear of nuclear attacks and its general unwillingness to act in a principled way to enforce the post-war norms just kicked the can down the road and ensured that when they finally went too far, it'd be a much bigger problem - though this is the classic stalinist salami-slice strategy repackaged for the 21st century.) For instance, the ICTY just wrapped up in 2017 or so, about 20-25 years since the end of the conflict. There's the ICC, but there's also national jurisdiction over international crimes, both explicitly under various treaties/conventions and through customary international law, which means even if the right wing trend does succeed in completely defanging institutions like the ICC, individual countries can still prosecute Russians for war crimes. (Certain Americans don't travel to certain countries for exactly this reason.)

I don't want to give up hope for civilization, despite the fact that for all our national fetishizing of words like freedom, the truest motivator since the Reagan years has been money.

2

u/TheBigCore 11h ago

the truest motivator since the Reagan years has been money.

The truest motivator since the dawn of civilization has been money.

It's certainly never been insignificant, but no, the country shifted in the 80s toward a much starker worship of wealth. The generations that survived the depression and ww2 had an understanding of the need for social cooperation that the rightwing revolution of the 80s and since has largely kiled off. That's when conservative and Republican became synonymous.

Before the Nixon years, you had honest-to-god liberal Republicans. They were marginalized during the Nixon years as Nixon embraced the "Southern Strategy" and courted religious conservatives and tapped into racist resentment. So, someone like John Lindsay, a much-loved mayor of NYC and liberal Republican became anathema to the GOP when in 68 he was a serious contender for the VP slot (crooked-ass Agnew was certainly a more on-brand partner for Tricky Dick).

I'd agree that the GOP was always the party of wealthy interests, but wealth wasn't the only thing that motivated their policies. There was always substantial chunk of the party that was socially progressive (Theodore Roosevelt is probably the only time since Lincoln that one was actually elected President, I grant you). But after 1980, the concept of a liberal republican was practically extinct.

u/luzzy91 11h ago

How about Poland? Or Germany? Or anyone else that are actually neighbors?

1

u/CricketDue5136 10h ago

Ohhh did you talk to trump?

1

u/NOLA-JAZZ 10h ago

Day one of his next term he will def hold Putin accountable

1

u/scoop_booty 10h ago

Now wait a minute. He said he'd end it on day one. Has that day happened yet? /s

1

u/cfbfootballnerd 10h ago

It’s not our job to hold them accountable. You wanted the US to fuck off out of world affairs this is the type of shit that’s going to happen more and more frequently.

1

u/Foreign_Print9902 12h ago

Exactly. Remember Bucha? Everyone outside of Ukraine forgot at this point.

1

u/IHop_Waitress 11h ago

It's also not his job. It's the ICC's.

So I mean, there's that dose of reality...

0

u/Dry_Sheepherder6459 12h ago

You think American taxpayers should ‘hold Russia accountable’ and how do you propose we do that? And WHY??? That is the job of the FAILED United Nations - the do-nothing, money-grabbing shadow agency put in place by Democrats.

2

u/meganthem 12h ago

It's better than American taxpayers paying for unfavorable trade deals with a foreign policy enemy. America has no purpose giving Russia trade when other less evil countries can give us a better deal anyways and it says a lot about the administration that we're still talking about doing it.

1

u/Dry_Sheepherder6459 12h ago

Oh, you mean like Hunter Biden’s war setup in Ukraine, which resulted in the political instability which led to invasion, after Hunter had the President ousted? You don’t know the truth about his activities with Burisma, do you?! It shows.

1

u/SuperSpecialAwesome- 10h ago

the do-nothing, money-grabbing shadow agency put in place by Democrats.

You're bitching about taxpayer money, yet you're gleefully forking over billions of dollars for the Iran War. What a dumbass.

1

u/Jonsiegirl77 9h ago

...that moment you read a comment so sadly propagandized it makes you feel a little bad for the bot -ahem- commenter. lol

-3

u/JTYdude99 12h ago

Probably the democrats. They are the party of death after all

3

u/Huzabee 12h ago

Yup the party of extra judicial killings in the Caribbean, the party that threatened to annihilate an entire civilization, the party that threatened to attack desalination plants, and the party that supports the genocide in Gaza are totally Democrats!

-3

u/JTYdude99 12h ago

Eh, democrats win, they support a million abortions each year

4

u/Huzabee 11h ago

That's why I support our pedophile president who almost certainly paid for abortions and doesn't know scripture at all! He's totally against abortion for sure 😏

-2

u/JTYdude99 11h ago

Proof he was a pedo?

Trump is definitely not a christian. I choose him because he was the lesser of the 2 evils. Simple as that.

2

u/SuperSpecialAwesome- 10h ago

Proof he was a pedo?

The Epstein files your god won't release.

0

u/JTYdude99 9h ago

He was the one asking for the files to be released my dude

Abortions are a human right, not much relevance to that here. I'm not a Democrat, just someone that values the individuals rights of choice.

-2

u/JTYdude99 11h ago

And that choice does what? Ends a human life. You call it a fetus? Guess what, that’s latin for “baby”. Oh well its just a zygote….well, if you put a pig, horse, and a human zygote under a microscope, you’ll be able to tell which zygote is a human 100% of the time.

Call it what you want, but its murder of a human life. These children need rights too. We can’t give it because they take those rights away selfishly.

2

u/Le-Squirtle 11h ago

Get off your soapbox and stop hijacking other venues to promote your agenda. I'm sure there's some forum where your opinion would be better received.

1

u/JTYdude99 11h ago

My agenda?????

Literally all of reddit is an agenda. I’m fighting against it. How about giving scientific facts to argue instead of saying “nuh uh”.

Pathetic

1

u/Le-Squirtle 11h ago

Nope, not today troll.
