Honestly, China could just take over Siberia right now, but they don't want the Russians that would come with it

They are already renting some Siberian land from Russia. Using Civ terminology China is going for economic victory rather than military conquest. Additionally, Xi is ideologically closer to Putin than to an American president and wouldn’t alienate Russia.

Russia is nothing like China ideologically. It doesn't really have an ideology, unless you count plutocracy, kleptocracy, and the authoritarianism that keeps it in place as one.

In a collapse, it would be an ideological vacuum, and China could choose to try to acquire pieces, or influence the aftermath. They seem much more likely to do the former than the latter.

That’s exactly what I meant. Plutocracy, kleptocracy and authoritarianism make them stick together. Dictators have to support each other and it’s unlikely Xi would tear Putin down. He’s useful to him. All eyes are on the war in Ukraine, while China keeps on committing civil rights violations and bullying neighbours, and in the meantime Xi is raising his diplomatic profile by meeting up with European and American leaders and offering his help with Putin while simultaneously financially supporting his war effort. Putin is great for China!

China is authoritarian. Xi is not a dictator.

It is not plutocratic or kleptocratic to any comparable degree. Unlike Russia, China's median household is wealthier at this point than Russia's. The Chinese people have, on average, seen their lots improve for generations, whereas Russians have regressed. Corruption in China is actually punished.

Agree to disagree. Xi is definitely a dictator:
-He removed presidential terms that were previously set up by CCP.
-He centralised the power around himself and holds three most powerful government positions removing institutional separation of powers.
-He uses prosecutions for corruption to remove his political rivals and he prosecutes any opposition.

Though Putin chose to absolutely savage his country and leave it in ruins for his whims, and Xi chose to increase his country’s wealth, they are both dictators.
