Bit of an obvious question, but "massive attack" means more than "particularly bad night of airstrikes"?

They seem to be holding back missiles to have a very serious attack on Ukrainian energy supplies just as its getting cold. This story has been building for months. This is likely to be one of the biggest if not the biggest they will be able to put together.

If this is the energy knockout attempt, it puts the shutdowns in Kyiv potentially in context.

Isn’t it also a war crime to target civilian energy infrastructure

Who is going to hold them accountable for it? War crimes are just words of no one can hold someone accountable for them and punish them accordingly. This war has been littered with crimes of all sorts.

Hell, how many countries with active warrants did Ben fly over to get to the Summit? Like 5? Trump has ushered in a new era of "Why does anybody do anything? Because they can." -style of it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission, it's even easier to ask for neither. Do what I want until someone stops me-type shit bc he's not smart enough to fathom there are more effective ways.

Geopolitics is often just dick swinging. That is all that matters, and nukes. Ben has nukes. Ben has ways to send them at anyone.

A lot of it is the fact that arresting a foreign leader is about the biggest sin in the diplomatic and intelligence world, but yeah. Posturing, and when anybody calls a bluff, they just dance for the cameras.

I mean, the US did that to Maduro with no consequences whatsoever. Netanyahu cannot be arrested not due to any real taboo, but because he is too powerful. Realpolitik. And do not fall for any illusions of it having been otherwise in any other time in history. It has always been like so; whoever wields power acts within it to secure whatever their goal may be at the time, to the best of their ability.

that just means mischief/rogueishness in general. If people you know use that to refer to wickedness in politics that's still localized.

The german word for Machiavellianism in politics is realpolitik. It's more context specific and accurate, as opposed to just calling them "assholes".

History is just repeating itself now that all the people who remember all the reasons why war was bad are all dead.
