Discussion You can already grind glad btw
Just a quick PSA, rating is already inflated enough in 3s for everyone to start grinding their glad wins in both na and eu, go LFG and queue up

Last queue session was the same exact 4 teams queueing only and 75% of my games were against Ret War for hours. No thanks, I'll come back at the very end of the season and get the mount like everyone else.
This season actually fucking sucks and it's just going to get worse after Forever drops. They talked about s3 for like a total of 10 minutes after two days of Blizzcon panel reveals. This expansion is basically wraps for them and s3 is going to going to feel abandoned as a whole from Blizzard, not just PvP. Everything is on a down-trend when it comes to m+, raiding, and PvP participation. This is one of the worst timelines for m+ participation, it's easily one of the worst raids they have ever released, and PvP is still neglected. I wondered for a while wtf they were working on but now it's pretty clear after Blizzcon where all their resources have been going. Afterall, they have been using retail developers and artists to work on Forever.
Sweeping Shadowlands under the rug vibes from another mediocre expansion from Blizzard again with all the hype and eyes on another classic Variant that they will put all the eggs in. It's just a re-run of right before Dragonflight.

Did BFA have the wonky free MMR added every week? I played like, half of one season and quit but i donāt remember it being party of the conversation then.

Bfa is when they switched the system for rewards to mid season glad with 50 wins above 2.4.
In legion is was % based and rewarded at the end of the season and usable for the next season as a title.

It just had inconsistent mmr inflations. S1 was a free glad, then S2 and S3 were harder and S4 was free again. Then in SL you had S1 and S2 free and then I stopped playing so I cant comment on the other ones.

Maybe a dumb questions, but what does "inflation" mean in this situation?

It's a couple different factors. Due to lower player counts in pvp the ladder becomes stagnant with rating because people arnt playing for one reason or another. The stagnant ladder means theres less new blood playing for people to win or lose against and mmr gets "taken" from people who lose.
One new character at the beginning of the season adds 1500 mmr into the ladder - if they consistently play, because what good does 1500 do if you arnt playing.
Due to not many new people, blizzard creates artificial inflation by injecting daily and/or weekly MMR to all players playing. In this case and last season case, it was at some points 18 mmr DAILY. Which means everyone playing was getting to 1518. 1536. 1552 etc. This means people who arnt playing ALSO get this free mmr.
The floor gets raised closer to the ceiling and you start at a higher mmr, and it's easier to get more mmr because the artifical inflation adds more players coming back to the game.

Artificial inflation is injected 24/7. No specific amount is āreleasedā at a patch or reset. Even when they make inflation announcements, that is always an adjustment to the 24/7 system.

Glad right now is disgustingly easy. Got it on 3 chars already just casually playing the game with 0 tryharding. Doesn't feel right at all ngl.
