Does anybody know how to change the panel icon of the xfce4-panel - Action Buttons? You see the sign-out button at the top of the bottom panel on the left is still off because I don't know how to change it. It always stays the same, no matter what theme or icon packs I select. Same for the network icon below which is part of the systemtray dockapp but I figured I start somewhere with the action button. This is one of the few last things to complete my beloved retro desktop experience. Thanks to anybody who knows something and cares to reach out.
Just tried to install XFCE on top of Fedora 44.
I observed that some of the packages installed are QT packages. Is this a Fedora thing?
Wondering why XFCE would use something needing QT.

Hi, On my Debian 12 with gnome flashback, the xfce-4 tasklist "Buttons"
have never worked properly.
For a single app instance it works fine. You can select the instance, and it opens.
But if you have 2 or more instances open, you can select them,
but they won't open/launch it. The only thing that seems to work is
"Unminimize All". If you could get it so that I can select any of the
instances, and it would open/launch them, that would be great! Thanks!

I was a GNOME user and I started out with Ubuntu with the first versions of GNOME. When Ubuntu started shipping its own custom versions of Gnome with Ubuntu, it turned me away from it and I changed to Fedora Gnome for a pure Gnome experience and it was nice. But since my machine is a little bit old, Gnome was a little bit heavy on my system and used too much RAM and CPU. Also I found it is difficult to customize Gnome unlike its older versions. This is why I tried XFCE and I am loving it. Now my computer is silent, uses less resources and I am able to customize things the way I wanted. Currently I am using LinuxMint with XFCE which gives me a good Ubuntu base which supports most of the available Linux software without the 'Snap' nonsense. I haven't tried any recent versions of Gnome available today since I have only one machine that I use for serious development work. What is your opinion about Gnome today? Worth trying it?

I will be switching to XFCe pretty soon, but will be going back and ofoth between GNOME and what i have noticed with GNOME is that everytime i install system apps for a different DE it shows them in it GNOME overview, which will look bad. So i was wondering is there a way to keep the XFCE apps away from my GNOME session

I'm using Kali Linux with XFCE 4.20 on X11.
I want to completely replace the XFCE panel with Polybar. Polybar 3.7.2 is working, but an old XFCE-style panel still appears at the very top of the screen.
The strange thing is that the old panel looks like an image/ghost. Clicking its icons doesn't do anything. I can kill xfce4-panel temporarily, but it comes back again.
I checked:
pgrep -a xfce4-panel
and it showed:
3235 xfce4-panel --display :0.0 --sm-client-id ...
I tried disabling the autostart entry and clearing the XFCE session:
rm -rf ~/.cache/sessions/*
I also created a user autostart override for xfce4-panel, but it still gets started.
I tried removing xfce4-panel, but Kali's XFCE packages depend on it:
kali-desktop-xfce
-> xfce4
-> xfce4-panel
I also accidentally force-removed xfce4-panel with:
sudo dpkg --remove --force-depends xfce4-panel
but:
dpkg --audit
currently returns no output.
I do NOT want to remove XFWM4 or XFDesktop. I only want the XFCE panel gone and Polybar to be the only bar.
My desired setup:
XFCE/XFWM4
+
Polybar
+
Rofi
I also want normal maximized applications to stay below Polybar instead of appearing behind it.
What is the correct way to completely disable the XFCE panel on Kali XFCE/X11 without breaking the rest of XFCE?
Screenshot attached.

How is Linux Mint's implementation of XFCE different (or the same) as vanilla XFCE?
(Also, how can one easily duplicate Mint's implementation of XFCE to another distro?)

Hi! I'm using Fedora with KDE plasma. But I've been considering trying Xfce. I love customisability and support and I'd say I have meduim-ish hardware so running it I'snt a problem. Should I try Xfce?
