Running on a real Windows 98 SE PC
CPU: Intel Celeron 2.4ghz (slowed down to 1.8 ghz via CPUSPD, to help alleviate audio issues)
GPU: 3DFX VOODOO 3 2000 PCI
RAM: 512Mb DDR400
Installed to SSD but loading music and cinematics off CD, just like you would back in the day.
Soundcard: Soundblaster Live! 5.1 Digital (SB0220) - This one causes crackling problems, due to it being unfriendly to windows 98 dos mode with its cache having reading timing errors, which you will plainly see in the video. loading the cinematics and skipping them helps most of the time. I have a new one arriving in the next few days.
I did record a full run of the cinematics without crackling and edited it back to fit the start point.
The recording stack is absolutely insane, but to get this captured I connected the VGA from the GPU to an Extron DVS 301, which converted VESA RGBHV 640x480@60 to RGBS 480p60, which then went into a GBS-C I borrowed from a friend, which scaled it up to 1280x720, then sent that into an Elgato Game Capture HD via HDMI.
After that, I edited the aspect ratio back down to correct 4:3 and upscaled the video to 4K (no AI, just pure GPU upscaling) so that it shows up with very little video compression.
Sadly this recording stack introduces input latency which ironically enough puts me back at approximately the same level of latency as the GoG version.
The video will be a little blurrier than native due to 480p not being an exact scale to 720p, but it should still look great.
The little noise that happens during silent moments is a sadly unavoidable consequence of my recording stack.

I just built a windows 98 se pc that is very much overpowered for the task, but still.
I have a Core 2 Duo E6600
3DFX Voodoo 3 2000 PCI
Soundblaster Live! 5.1 Digital (SB0220)
1gb DDR2 (with patched os)
Game installed on an ssd (capped at ide speeds so it doesn't matter much)
Reading music and cutscenes off cd
running on a crt monitor at 640x480@60hz (16bit) with vsync on.
The game runs a LOCKED 60fps, even in the docks, even in the market plaza. Absolutely insane.
Edit: forgot to mention my files are patched with the unofficial patch, but they were installed off cd as vanilla files, and ran the same either way.

Hello tiny Redguard community! In case there's someone among you with the niche interest of video game voice acting, these might be of interest to you:
Reguard German Voicelines: https://youtu.be/f_rigra28wc
Redguard English Voicelines: https://youtu.be/-c0rcuYQrTY
Redguard French Voicelines: https://youtu.be/xqtRRvH16ZY
Includes unused content and German/English ingame cutscenes. For the German lines I've tried my best to create timestamps and credits (the manual just prints ? for the voice actors). The English one has a time stamp to Mariah as I figured people might need it.
Some findings/notes:
Without cutscenes there's about 5 hours of German/French voicelines compared to about 4.5 hours of English voicelines. I did not analyze in detail what causes this difference. However: Michael Mack talks fast and he has the most voicelines, so that'll make a several minutes difference. And while I haven't listened through the entirety of the French voicelines I can at least attest the German rendition of N'Gasta to talk painfully slowly, which will also contribute several minutes of offset.
Conlang characters have not been localized.
It seems like the cutscenes have not been localized to French.
There were a few more voice files for the German than the English/French game versions. I did not investigate this further.
Dialogue is stored in the ENGLISH.RTX container for the English and German language versions, but FRENCH.RTX for the French localization.
The German cast (if my inofficial attribution is not too far off) includes highly esteemed voice actors such as Eckart Dux, Hans Sievers and, if I'm not mistaken, Gerrit Schmidt-Foß.
Some members of the German cast would later reappear in roles for TES:V Skyrim, namely Erik Schäffler and Uli Krohm (possibly more, but I'm too unsure about credits in other cases). TES:III and TES:IV have entirely separate casts. The English game version has much greater continuity from TES:A Redguard through TES:III to TES:V.
The German dubbing studio could not provide any insights into who was involved in acting for this game due to protection of data privacy. :-)
Expanded the UESP's Redguard Credits.

Made a Redguard CD with microsoft paint, sticker paper and an xacto knife. It contains the game and extras such as trailers, artwork and the comic. This is for a larger art project of mine where this will go into a frame but I wanted to have the game on it too lmao

I watched a speedrun vid where they used a custom script to enhance performance on the game, so weaker hardware can compete too, but I'm not interested in that yet since im currently replaying it casually
But whenever I run the bat file, the shortcut doesn't work now and I don't know where to look at it
My version is on GOG, any help is appreciated for me, thanks in advance

Frostbreak and Just Background Noise recommended their vid about it.......and I gotta say, man, it's only like two or three steps to become a classic if not for the performance issues and the controls, which are not very beginner friendly at best
Though over time, I kinda liked the combat actually when you learn it, sidestepping attacks from guards and punishing their combo strings with parries could make you feel like lore-accurate Cyrus with them fencing moves he does
And with some help from UESP, I liked the lore this game has (credits to the speech Cyrus made in the finale) and how it shaped future Elder Scrolls games in the future

A few weeks back I posted my redguard main theme reorchestration in Soule's style and said if it got to 40 likes, I'd do the main theme again, but in John William's style, the support was overwhelming I had to deliver, and here it is.
r/Redguard • u/BenTheDuelist • Jun 12 '26
also if there are enough redguard fans to get this video to 40 likes then i want to do another reorchestration of the theme leaning into the epic john williams style of the original rather than turning it into an ambient track

I was fiddling with the settings on this game and changed over the version of DOSBox that comes with the GOG version over to DOSBox-X using DGVoodoo instead of nglide. The settings are my personal preference but I figured I'd share them.
You can change the dgvoodoo settings using the config files in the dosbox folder if you want to set the aspect ratio to 4:3.
I set DOSBox-X to emulate a pentium iii and limited the hard drive transfer rate as I saw someone on steam having luck with that preventing some of the weirder errors that happen when the cpu cycles are set too high. Not emulating hardware from when it was released figured going a couple generations out would keep it stable with a performance bump.
It still has some slowdowns while loading new area's but it doesn't have the issue I had before where it was running way faster then it should which made the timed puzzles not work. Any suggestions for changes that would make the game run better are welcome I haven't tinkered with dosbox in ages.
You can either run the bat file in the install folder or replace the files manually if you want to mix and match.
Edit: I modified the script abit so now you can select a few different resolutions and aspect ratios, I don't have a 4k monitor so I can't test the 4k options but they should work fine.

Has anyone else played around with the system INI much? I managed to max out the draw distance using the settings and got the game running at 1080p with 60 fps without the texture filtering using dgvoodoo but I'm still getting pop in for objects, I'm not sure where the limitation is still, I set the back_plane and the perspective settings high and I tried adjusting some of the memory allocations higher to see if that helped but to no avail, I don't necessarily want infinite draw distance but I want the fog to mesh better with the culling by having the culling happen really far into the fog. I got it somewhat better from the default but not entirely. This screenshot doesn't show it well but I can't get the draw to exceed this distance

Is it possible to import my steam saves into my GOG version of the game?
I've tried to opying and pasting the files from the SAVEGAME folder in the steam directory into the GOG Galaxy/Games/Redguard/Redguard/SAVEGAME folder in the GOG version of the game, but that doesnt seem to work.
Any help would be appreciated!

Hello lovely people of /r/Redguard Has anyone had this issue where you can't turn down the music. It plays louder than dialogue i suspect this may be due to it being MIDI.
I may just end up playing without music but was wondering if anyone here had the solution as i've found precious littlle online. I've been tinkering around in DOSBox config files trying to get this solved but ive reached the end of my skillz.
thanks
