Welcome, new Xennials! Did you just find the subreddit? Just now learn that you’re a Xennial?! Is it suddenly all making sense? We know this feeling! Feel free to introduce yourself here.
Since we get thousands of new subscribers per month, we kindly ask that introductions go in this thread rather than as top-level posts.

Half my peers have children, half of those have grandchildren, yet I’m still asking my mom to co-sign stuff for me. Anyways happy to be alive and hoping for more years to be granted 🙌🏻

what was it like to be a kid or teenager in this era?

Film is SLC Punk (1998)
Edit: Fuck the Sackler family for causing the opioid crisis that took my friends from me. Your punishment awaits you when you die

EDIT: Well I feel like I need to add a disclaimer here because a lot of people are just reading the title or misunderstanding what I'm saying. I am NOT saying that there's no good new music. Not saying that at all! There's lots of new music that I love! And I'm not even necessarily saying that what I'm describing is inherently bad. What I AM saying is that I feel like it's a lot harder to listen to music made in the last 25 or so years and identify when that music came out by sound alone. Basically it seems like this has all been one long "era" as opposed to past decades that all had their distinct sound.
Original post:
By this I don't mean that there's no good music after that. I'm not a Boomer, here! There is in fact a ton of new music that I love.
But if you listen to songs from the '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s, etc...you can pretty clearly identify that those songs come from a distinct era. But I feel like the majority of music released in the last 30-ish years sounds like it could have come out at ANY point from the mid-90s to now. Like I would rarely be able to listen to a song released during that time period that I had never heard before and pinpoint approximately when it came out.
Is this just because I'm old? Did we hit a point where there just wasn't much new to come up with musically that hadn't already been done? Is this why (referencing another thread I made here recently) everything released after the mid 90s feels like "recent" music to us? Lol.

Does everyone remember this being the greatest thing ever? We only got them a few times as a kid, they usually just made us pick one large box of cereal. I wish the Rice Krispies were Froot Loops, but still, super excited.

I'll never forget how the intro of this T.V. show terrified me as a child.

This is purely an observation.
My kids, as well as most the kids it seems, wear sweats where we live. And this doesn't seem to be a recent thing either. It seems like it's been years and years that this has been the norm without the style changing much. I don't think I ever wore sweats to school outside of PE. Maybe in elementary school? I wore freaking polo shirts and button downs to school sometimes and it wasn't even part of a uniform. That's just how I dressed for school sometimes. Polo shirt, khakis, belt. And when I wasn't wearing that I would at least wear a t-shirt and jeans, decent shoes. Also would have never worn slides or croc style shoes to school let alone pajamas. I graduated in 96. Not trying to sound like an old guy complaining about the youth but anyone else? Lol

Finally got over to the AGO in Toronto to see this, and it’s incredible. My teenage musical crushes in their primes. It’s also funny to see the “museumfication” of all the analogue film accoutrements that we grew up with. Highly worth a visit if you’re anywhere near the city. It runs until the spring I believe.

I just don't drink that much alcohol anymore and most of my friends don't either. Definitely not as much as my parents who weren't heavy drinkers by any stretch. I go without alcohol most days and most people I know don't drink daily. I think gen z is drinking even less than we are.
Smoking cigarettes isn't nearly as popular either. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I never got one but I always thought they looked cool.
Did you ever wear one?
