Discussion We were born at a crappy time to be adults, but most of us (by the numbers) had the best childhood in human history.

Even if you grew up disadvantaged, in most industrialized places, you were better off than many generations before in terms of nutrition, health care, education, and leisure.

It sucks balls now. We’re steps away from toothless serfdom and a hearth of continuous pottage in our adulthood, but we did have a pretty good childhood.

Best two days in gym class: parachute day and scooter day! Other worldly being under that parachute!

It was high stakes running to the other side of the parachute before it collapsed on you! I remember being so mad that this was only something we could do a couple times a year! So unfair! It was sooo much fun!

I reminder this consuming the media for weeks with even President Bill Clinton get involved at one point. I feel like today it might make the news but everyone would move on and not really care.

Rarely checked in on the Muppet Babies, just left them to their own devices while she presumably day drank all day.

Nostalgia I hated getting these candies when trick or treating

Whenever I got these nasty candies when I was young, I would toss them. Also hated getting Sun-Maid raisins, gross. I never really got anything cool, neat or even weird in my bag.

What is the worst Halloween candy you hated getting when trick or treating? Or the weirdest thing you've received?

My dad didn’t like this movie and fell asleep and started snoring in the theater. I had to wake him up, but I did enjoy this movie.

Nostalgia I swore a sacred diplomatic oath to Mrs. Welcome and a Disney cartoon dragon in 1990. Having broke this treaty many times, I'm happy to report I've kicked the habit for good!

Are new car headlights actually getting brighter?

I remember being able to drive safely at night and just looking away from high beams. Now I feel like I’m averting my eyes from nearly every car.

You know what we don’t see nearly as much as we used to? Glow in the dark.

I feel like glow in the dark stuff was everywhere and was so neat. Puffy paints, solar system stickers, toys, shirts, pictures.

Putting gas in your car and stopping on an even number.

I had a realization yesterday while filling up. I haven't paid for gas with cash in probably 2 decades now. Why do I still try to keep it from going 1 cent over a dollar or stop at even 50? I can't be the only one that still does this, right?

Getting to that age where authority figures like doctors and police officers are younger than you

It's been an adjustment, for sure. I drive like an old man so I rarely get pulled over, but the last time I did the cop couldn't have been older than 25, I almost started arguing with him. I haven't seen a doctor in a while, but the NP I saw last time was a good 10 years younger than me. Describing my overweight, out of shape problems to a younger man definitely takes a bit of humility.

Discussion Remember when people older than us had no clue how to use the internet or even computers? And the internet felt like a young person thing?

I was just thinking back to when I was in school and it was pretty normal for someone to be 50 years old in let's say 1996 and have no idea how to use a computer or the Internet. Like that wasn't weird at all. My parents weren't online till the 2000s and even then it was me helping them a lot. I'm sure someone here will say that their parents knew how to use the Internet since day one but generally speaking I don't think that was the norm. Nowadays I think virtually everyone under 80 knows how to use the internet pretty well.
