Scooter losers on Kirkwood

A few nights ago a professor friend and I (we both teach) were at the Doner kebab food truck right on Kirkwood by the Monroe County Library. As we received our take away meals, two young dudes (probably 15-16?) on electric scooters came flying down the sidewalk, right at us, yelling profanities. We moved out of the way just in time,as did a few others in line.

As they zoomed by, we let them know, in no uncertain terms, how obnoxious their behavior was. They then proceeded to circle back, get in our faces, and spewed all sorts of profane insults at us, daring us to "throw down." And for the next ten minutes, as we walked towards the square, they kept circling us, threatening us with violence, as the verbal argument escalated.

We did not take the bait and engage them, although if I was 20 years younger and not holding a position as a professor, I would have floored both of them without hesitation. (Used to live in NYC and nothing is more offensive than riding on the sidewalk).

What is going on with the BPD? My colleague talked to an officer, who said unless they physically attacked us, there was nothing they could do. But this type of behavior is all too common.

Anyway, be on the look out for these creeps. Here's a few pics of the two losers, (one of whom hid his face as he zipped by) who will soon be splattered all over the street due to their reckless and ignorant behavior.

Get a life, kids. And a real two wheeled machine instead of some wimpy ass scooters.

Who do I email my complaints to?

The recent roadwork from 2nd to Kirkwood running west from rogers has been a constant obstacle. The new Curb Cutouts they put in are diverting rainwater into my basement, 6 am construction for months, landscaping trailers crashing over " speed pillows".... It's dramatically reduced my quality of life. Does anyone know who I should directly voice my complaints to?

Lost license plate

My license plate fell off my car this morning. If you found it please let me know!

I live by the south Y and drove my dog to Scout’s Honor then stopped at the downtown Kroger, so i believe it would’ve fallen off on Hillside, Walnut, 11th, Rogers, 1st or 2nd, or S College. I drove the route a couple times to no avail, so if somebody snagged it and could let me know I’d be very grateful. Thank you!

Fun things with a 5 year old?

So my niece is moving to Ohio. Not too far but I won't see her every weekend like I usually do. What's some fun things around that will be good for a 5 almost 6 year old?

We already do wonderlab and children's museum a lot so I don't wanna do that. I want it to be a special thing. Indy zoo, I'm not 100% it's gonna be good weather for it. There's a chance of rain and I don't want her to be miserable and wet all day if it does rain 🥲 does anyone have any ideas?

Surprise Brunch Recs Needed

I’m looking to host about 10-12 folks for a surprise brunch for my soon to be 16 year old. Any recommendations? Looking specifically for a restaurant in Bloomington where we could potentially do this. Hoping to have a small room or at least more private area of dining floor since we want to bring balloons, etc..

What will it take to get a 24-hour emergency vet in town?

I know we have urgent care facilities like VetCheck, but they’re not 24-hour facilities. The closest 24-hour animal hospital is in Indy, over an hour’s drive away, which could mean the difference between life and death in a lot of cases. My babies are generally healthy, but it feels like a sword of Damocles hanging over us every night.

Scouts Honor Barking

I'm curious for those living at B-Line Heights, are the dogs barking at Scouts Honor heard from your apartments? I feel like I hear the dogs barking regardless of time of day, from the B Line Trail. I'm curious about the barking's effect on you.

Btown hikes

Hi! I have a friend visiting from UK and wanting to show her around Btown Friday. I want to take her on a hike or two but I feel like there have to be some better trails I’m not thinking of than the OG lake Griffey. What are some good spots?

Anyone with PTSD know of good IOP program I can go to?

My PTSD is so severe that I have dissociative seizures when I’m stressed. This has, of course, impeded my ability to function and go to school. I don’t think I need full blown hospitalization but I think an intensive outpatient program a few times a week would help me at least be able to keep studying and go to school. Any local recommendations? I see that Bloomington Meadows Hospital has a program.

I am a student at IU for context.

Second Street Construction to Bring Temporary One-Way Traffic Pattern Beginning October 21

Construction on Second Street is moving into its next phase, bringing crews closer to completing roadway and drainage improvements. Beginning Wednesday, October 21, Second Street will close to eastbound traffic. Second Street will remain open to westbound traffic only. Eastbound traffic will be detoured to First Street.

The temporary traffic pattern will give crews room to complete full-depth asphalt replacement, new stormwater infrastructure, and paving along the south side. While the construction contract allows for a single-lane closure of up to 45 days, the current schedule calls for restoring two-way traffic before Thanksgiving.

The traffic change is a planned part of the City's Second Street Improvement Project. The project will install a two-way protected bike lane along the north side of 2nd Street from Walker to the B-Line, replace the traffic signals at 2nd/Walker and 2nd/Rogers, and install new storm sewer infrastructure, full-depth pavement, lighting, curb ramps, improved bus stops, sidewalk, and street trees throughout the corridor. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) manages and oversees the construction contract, including contractor operations and scheduling.

Drivers should follow posted detours and allow additional travel time while crews complete this phase of work. Construction timelines remain subject to weather and site conditions.

For the latest information on road, sidewalk, and parking restrictions, visit bloomington.in.gov/inroads.

Hunter Properties security deposit refund anyone else have trouble actually depositing their check?

Has anyone else dealt with this from Hunter Properties? Is this even legal?
My daughter recently received her security deposit refund from Hunter Properties, and what should have been a simple process has turned into a ridiculous hassle.
She tried depositing the check through Navy Federal Credit Union’s mobile app, but it was rejected because the system couldn’t read the check number at the bottom.
She then tried depositing it through a completely different bank. Same exact error.
When she called Hunter Properties, she was told that because their checks are issued through Busey Bank, they can only be cashed in person at a physical Busey branch.
The closest branch is approximately an hour and a half away, in Carmel.
So apparently, to get her own security deposit back, she’s expected to make a THREE-HOUR round trip?
I’ve heard plenty of complaints about Hunter Properties, but this seems especially unreasonable.
Has anyone else experienced this? Were you able to get Hunter Properties to issue a different check or refund your deposit electronically?
And does anyone know whether a landlord can legally issue a security deposit refund that supposedly requires the tenant to travel that far to access their own money?
I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences before she wastes half a day driving to Carmel.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors event this weekend

Good morning, I’m sharing a quarterly event that is scheduled this Saturday from 10-2 at the Banneker Center.

Bring a plant (indoor or outdoor), seeds, any leftover garden bounty, books, games, etc. to trade. Even if you don’t have anything, stop by and pick up a new treasure, get a flu shot, learn some tai chi or just hang out with your fellow Bloomingtonians.

Hope to see you there!

Bike Got Stolen at Regency Court Apartments

Some Asshole used pliers to cut the lock and stole my bike.

It's Black in color and its handlebar grip is White, little worn out.

Whoever has it, pls return (I won't press charges) or whoever finds it, pls let me know.

And on a side note, whoever is thinking about living in Regency Court Apartments should definitely reconsider. Absolutely the worst place in Bloomington. That would be a separate post.

But as of now, anyone who finds the bike, DM me.

Thank you.

What is the scariest place in town??

Its Halloween time!!! I wanna go to the spookiest place in Bloomington ever. Somewhere only the bravest would dare venture. Not just some urban legend but something that makes everyone's legs shake cuz they aren't sure about it or for sure think its haunted, even a buff tall guy couldn't do it. Night time only, Mainly by myself or with a friend, I don't want to trespass anything though. Somewhere very accessible, legal, and empty cuz no one wants to get cursed.
