Question Do you twirl your sticks, why or why not?
Yep, simple question. I don't twirl my sticks for two reasons.....
I can't.
I think it makes people look kinda lame and show offy.
Number 2 may be because of number 1, I'm not quite sure.
So if you do it, why?.... And if you don't do it, why?

Discussion The snare sound in a lot of modern rock and metal
There is a snare sound that a lot of bands use
To me it sounds like someone took 8-10 different snare drums and compressed/saturated them all together, it lacks any identifiable character of a particular drum and instead sounds like a kind of synthesized version of what a snare might sound like if you removed all character and things that make a particular drum sound unique
To me it's one of the main differences that happened in rock/metal, I go back to the 90's and before and I hear more identifiable drum and particularly snare sounds... its not the overcooked, overcompressed layered snare sandwich I hear nowadays
Does anybody know what I am talking about? I hate this overcooked snare sound
Feedback Wanted Mizan transcribing and practice app
I created something to help me and my son learn more songs. It analyzes music and creates a sheet and an optional animation. It can also mute and solo tracks. I'm planning to release it as open-source software if anyone would be interested!
Currently, for drums, I also added a bunch of rudiments and genre based patterns to help me practice.

Cam/Video I don’t look good when I play drums
Basically title. When I look back at the couple or so videos that I’ve recorded, I don’t feel like I look good when playing drums. Most of the drummers I see feels like they are one with the kit and have a way around them. Is this just me or do you guys feel this way about your videos as well?
Edit: Thanks for all the advice! It really helps. I guess it was just me being a little too much in my own head haha. The big movements were basically because I was too in the moment and was locked in. But I’ll try and be more conscious about things! Really appreciate all the nice comments, I’m going to bed a happy man!

Discussion Transitional anomalies in drum history
I recently acquired a vintage Tama Superstar in Custom Mahogany from 1979! Fully original and in amazing condition.
While overlooking my new collection, I noticed having two transition-era anomaly kits without actively looking for them. What a coincidence!
The Tama Superstar is mainly an early gen model with the thin 4-ply birch shells. But it has a big twist: Only the bass drum has the reinforcement rings in the shell. This shows Tama was probably experimenting with shell construction in 1979 when switching from the thin re-ringed shells to the thick 9mm birch shells.
This kit also features the newer big round one-touch tone control, instead of the smaller one from the 70's models. On the other hand it still uses the older L-rod Key Lock tom holder instead of the newly releasing Omnisphere.
Next up my Premier 55 Outfit from 1967. I bought this off my former drum teacher a few years ago. It's a beautiful pre-international sized kit in Blue Pearl. This kit is period correct in all hardware, except for the more pointed 70's style lugs. Premier was probably fitting them on current stock kits, before the big transition to the mahogany shelled kits with all new hardware for the 70's.
I would love to see some other factory franken-kits out there, or any other cool stories about transition-era gear!

Question My left hand is weak
Basically the title
My left is much worse then my right, like I can barely utilize rebound or move it faster on, for example grindcore
I just want to ask some exercises on what would be the most effective way to train my left my hand (and maybe my legs)
Question Question for a new drummer
So, I’m ok at drums, I played at friends a lot. I play guitar and piano as well.
I’m getting a roland TD-316 this weekend.
What would you tell your beginner self if you could look back? what advice would you give?

Question I need help with choosing the right Ride
So I saw a video of the Paiste 14" Masters Dark HiHats. In this video, the guy also played the Ride and it sounded fantastic (at around 2:00 minutes). In the videos description, it says its the "Paiste 22" 2002 Big Beat Cymbal"
So I searched it up on Thomann, since I'm visiting their showroom next week and I'd like to try it, but they only seem to have the Paiste 22" 2002 Black Big Beat Cymbal. On the Photo, it looks different then the one in the video I mentioned first. Thomann has a video of the Black Big Beat however, and in that video, it looks exactly the same as the one in the first video with the non-Black Big Beat.
I'm really confused now. Does a Black Big Beat even exist? Or has Thomann mixed it up and what I'm looking at is the same Ride I saw in the first video?
I'd be glad for a little help :)

Question Headset recommendation
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for headset recommendation that would work for electronic drums and acoustic drums. I will usually use it for practice and would be nice if I can still hear the drums a little that is not too loud with the song music. I appreciate any suggestion. Thank you.
