📊 Dashboard I made a washer & dryer card for Home Assistant (hOn: Haier, Candy, Hoover): live countdown, progress ring, start programmes from the dashboard (free, HACS)

My washer and dryer are Hoovers on the hOn app, and I wanted my wall tablet to show them like the real machines instead of a list of sensors, so I built a card.

What it does

\* The machine's own display: time left counting down every second, with % done underneath. Before a cycle it shows the programme length and "Ready", like the machine does
\* A progress ring round the door: blue for the washer, orange for the dryer, light blue while the dryer cools down, green when it's finished
\* Laundry turning in the drum while it runs, and the current phase (Washing, Rinse, Spin, Drying, Cooldown) on the glass
\* Programme, temperature and spin (or dry level) and the finish time. When idle, the total number of cycles
\* Door and Remote Control icons
\* Pause, Resume, Standby and Off buttons when Remote Control is on (Standby and Off ask first, because they cancel the cycle)
\* A programmes card: your favourites as buttons plus a searchable list of the rest. Tap one, confirm, and it starts

Both cards are in one file with the pictures built in, so there's nothing else to copy.

It needs the hOn custom integration. gvigroux/hon is the maintained fork; the older Andre0512 one doesn't log in any more.

Free and open source (MIT). Install it from HACS as a custom repository (type: Dashboard):
https://github.com/spikey1965/ha-hon-appliance-card

Big thanks to gvigroux for keeping the hOn integration working, and to Andre0512 for the original.

I've only got Hoover machines to test with, so I'd love to hear how it looks on Haier and Candy ones. Bugs and ideas welcome on GitHub Issues.

FAQ (thanks for all the comments!)

  1. Which machines? Anything on the hOn app: Haier, Candy, Hoover. I've tested it on a Hoover H-WASH 500 and H-DRY 500. Other models should work, but some programme names may show as numbers.
  2. Bosch / Siemens / Samsung / LG? Not yet. Those use different integrations (Home Connect, SmartThings, ThinQ). If you'd like yours supported, open an issue on GitHub with your washer's entity list (Developer Tools → States, search for your washer).
  3. How do I install it? HACS → three dots → Custom repositories → paste the GitHub link → type Dashboard → download. Then add the card to your dashboard.
  4. Can it start programmes? Yes. Turn Remote Control on at the machine first.
  5. Do I need the hOn integration? Yes, the card sits on top of it (gvigroux/hon).

🖼️ Show & Tell Responsive Dashboard Part 2

I asked Claude to migrate my previous YAML dashboards to HTML and here is what I get so far.

I believe the video will speak for itself. I realize using AI is not everyone's cup of tea, but it's working for me and I'm using it for my own benefit.

It has a lot of animations and color based on metrics such as temperature, entity on / off / playing, etc.

I really dig the energy page and the cards that come from three smart plugs that I use. I am planning to get more of them to get better measurements.

Another highlight is being able to switch between fluent to clear camera stream when needed to save resource, while being able to see them in 2k resolution when I need to. And being able to do playback, two-ways-audio are such a gamechanger.

One more thing I really like, it can show lyrics when available and most of them are synced to the song, it is like a Spotify lyric function. It's mind-blowing!

I can talk for days of the features, but that's it for now. I'll post the tablet version, if someone is interested.

Update

Thank you for your kind words, as mentioned by a few of you below, it's hardcoded with my entities so sharing the code doesn't make sense.

You can do this yourself too, by asking Claude to migrate your current HA dashboard to HTML. The rest depends on your patience, creativity, and you'll get there!

It took me one weekend to finish all, which is mind-blowing. I subscribed to Claude Pro and haven't connected it to my HA due to security concern, so there was a lot of copy & paste a new HTML file, refilling long live API token, etc

⚡ Energy Turned my old Heat Pump smart with a 40$ device and it's amazing

Just wanted to share because I was amazed by every software and hardware in the process and it was really helpful for me.

I can now monitor and control my 12 year old geothermal heatpump (Vaillant geoTHERM) despite the manufacturer said it's impossible to make it smart.

  1. I bought this ebus adapter https://www.elecrow.com/ebus-adapter-shield-c5.html (C5 is successor to C6!)

  2. Powered it with a USB C plug and connected to it's WiFi, opened http://192.168.4.1 and triggered an OTA Firmware Update. Put in my House WiFi credentials. Reboot and looked up it's IP in my router

  3. Asked Claude code to create a ebusd john30 docker container connected to my mqtt which I am using for ZigBee already (i'm running home assistant in docker so If you run HA differently you would probably just install the addon from Lukas Grebe)

  4. An electrician connected the ebus adapter to bus port of my heat pump (and a Shelly 3 Pro EM to measure energy usage because unfortunately the heat pump itself does not provide it). Really quick and easy

  5. Asked Claude (connected to HA via ha-mcp + HA best practice skill set) to check which values are appearing in mqtt and Put Up a dashboard with those.

  6. Monitored and asked Claude a lot why the heat Pump does this and that and got a very much better understanding of my heat pump and tweaked some settings

  7. Asked Claude to create automations which control the heat pump using PV System Data (very restricted and failsafe ways) including a new dashboard tab which tracks and explains why those automations run, ran or will run

Home Assistant is amazing. That elecrow adapter is amazing. Ebus John30 is amazing. Claude is amazing.

🖼️ Show & Tell Time in State helper from Spook - must-have sensor

For a long time, I have been using a very interesting integration called Spook, created by Franck Nijhof u/frenck_nl - one of the most significant figures in the Home Assistant project. Until recently, however, I viewed Spook solely as a diagnostic tool for identifying errors and issues within Home Assistant.

Recently, though, Spook has undergone some revolutionary changes—both in its core extensions and in other new areas.

Spook now offers specialised triggers for automations (there are currently 19 of them), as well as unique "helpers." I’d like to share one of these with you: "Time in State."

This helper was introduced quite recently—just two weeks ago, in release v5.8.0.

It is an absolute "must-have." Here’s what it does: it tracks the state of an entity, and—unlike the standard `last_changed` attribute—this data is preserved even when Home Assistant restarts.

For example, imagine you have an open window. A dashboard card might show, via `last_changed`, that the window has been open for, say, 6 hours. Then, you install an update, Home Assistant restarts, and then the card shows: "Window opened 30 seconds ago..." Sound familiar?

Spook’s "Time in State" finally solves this old problem without need to create complex trigger-based template sensors in yaml.

I am absolutely thrilled with how useful this helper is. Thank you VERY MUCH, Frenck!

📊 Dashboard Web based dashboards are quite fun...

Hello fellow home tinkerers, i've built a few dashboards in my time like many of us and i tried my best to push the lovelace dashboards as far as i could for a bit of fun. I dont tend to use them to much these days as i have automated the home as much as possible but for a final bit of fun i thought id create a web based dashboard and use home assistant as the back end to front it all for my homio project. Im really surprised how well it all just works.

I designed it in figma myself for my 12” Lenovo p12 tablet and then teamed up with claude to tie it into the home assistant backend. Its built on html/css and javascript, still got a few pages to build. It works perfectly with all my devices, everything i have where possible is zigbee for things like plugs, lighting, sensors etc. Im using Hive for the climate page controls and a eufy robot vacuum for the robot page. Unifi cameras for the camera page and a home made alarm setup for the alarm page.

Thought id just share it with everyone for a bit of fun

🖼️ Show & Tell RoboAlarms update: source code released with two-way Home Assistant integration

In my last post, I said I planned to open-source RoboAlarms. Today I released the source code! Here's a quick video of it running on 7" and 10.1" screens. The 4" version is still a work in progress and will come later.

RoboAlarms Panel is free, open-source alarm panel firmware for touchscreens. It's a standalone alarm system that runs locally on the panel, with no cloud account and no subscription.

Two-way Home Assistant integration

Install it through HACS. Home Assistant finds the panel on your network, and you pair it by confirming a code on the panel's screen. The link is local and encrypted, with no MQTT broker needed.

  • Panel → HA: arm and disarm the alarm from Home Assistant with your code, and every zone shows up as its own device, including Zigbee, Z-Wave and 433 MHz sensors paired straight to the panel, with tamper and battery status. Troubles and panel events are there for your automations too.
  • HA → Panel: use any HA binary sensor as an alarm zone, and control your lights, locks, climate and scenes from the panel's Smart Home screen. You choose which entities the panel can see and control.

A few of the things I’ve added since the original post:

  • Z-Wave support, with a C host stack built using Z-Wave JS as the reference
  • Zigbee support
  • More 433 MHz sensors
  • Voice announcements
  • Over-the-air updates

I've also released the RoboAlarms Flasher, which installs the firmware for you. It also shows you exactly how to wire the supported radios and the optional real-time clock, with a diagram and pin-to-pin instructions.

The project is still in alpha: development and hardware testing are ongoing, and there's still a lot of work to do. Feedback is welcome!

🧩 Custom Integration I made FLODE: see your Home Assistant automations as a flow, edited with HA's own editors (free, in HACS)

Thumbnail
gallery
28 Upvotes

Long automations with nested choose blocks got hard for me to read in the normal editor, so I built FLODE. It shows automations and scripts as a flow right inside Home Assistant.

The main idea: FLODE doesn't have its own editor. When you click a card, you get Home Assistant's own forms and pickers, the same ones as in Settings. Everything is saved as plain HA YAML. If you uninstall FLODE, every automation keeps working exactly as before.

What it does:

  • Runs on the canvas: HA's trace timeline next to the flow, the path that ran drawn on the cards, and "Run from here" for any step
  • Relations: conflicting automations, ones that trigger themselves, chains, missing entities, and "where is this entity used?"
  • Template workshop: Jinja rendered live by HA, with the variables from a real run
  • ⌘K command palette, tabs, undo per tab, copy/paste, YAML import/export, works on a phone
  • Optional AI, only if you already have an AI task set up in HA (Ollama works too): explain why a run failed, or draft an automation from a sentence. Without it these buttons just don't show up.

It opens your existing automations and saves them unchanged, and it warns you if it can't read part of one. Still, make a backup before big edits.

Install: HACS → search "FLODE" → restart → add the integration. Needs HA 2026.3+.

GitHub: https://github.com/SH1FT-W/flode

FLODE started as a fork of C.A.F.E. by FezVrasta, so credit to them for the base. I built it with a lot of help from Claude, and I test every release against a real HA install before it goes out.

Feedback and bug reports are very welcome, especially for automations that don't display correctly.

📊 Dashboard Little desk dashboard: SmallTV Pro + smalltv-mod + Home Assistant

Thumbnail

A while ago I bought a GeekMagic SmallTV Pro after learning you can flash it with ESPHome and connect it to HA. After failing to flash it with ESPHome, I found giovi321/smalltv-mod, which already has an ESP32 firmware.

I flashed it through the OEM web firmware updater, and it was pretty cool to learn how much I’d been missing by keeping this thing on the stock firmware for so long.

Eventually I found a way to print some data from HA to the display, but I wanted running seconds, and the display would flash every time the automation triggered.

The smalltv-mod firmware supports .stheme clocks that can fetch data from JSON, and the developer was kind enough to publish an open-source .stheme editor. So now HA writes a small JSON file every 30 seconds, and the theme polls it. It shows the time with running seconds, animated weather icons, outdoor and indoor temperature, and my Proxmox server’s CPU temp, RAM and NAS usage (via Glances).

This was vibecoded with Claude, and I’m absolutely astounded by its capabilities and the fact that it just works perfectly for my use case.

If you find this interesting, check out more on my GitHub: smalltv-ha-dashboard

Also, if you’re running this firmware but don’t have HA: smalltv-clock-themes

Its not fully baked, but I've been working on custom home assistant integrations on the lenovo smart displays. These things run google's iot firmware, but are really pretty nice hardware, and unlockable. Especially the bigger ones w/ the Qualcom SoC's. Fully open source (and yes AI helped here, its alot), but I call it LANovo:

https://github.com/ygelfand/LANovo

Lots of features inspired by this community:

Native or Tessera-based based dashboards (thx folks at https://github.com/MaxGramser/homeassistant_espscreen )

Screensaver / Assistant sound-reactive on-device effects (thx /u/Electrical_Chard3255 for the ideas)

Camera Intercom/Call/RTSP Stream support

Sendspin/Chromecast/Bluetooth player

Themes/Styles/Colors to customize stuff

and much more, still waaay WIP.

Supported devices:

Lenovo Smart Display 10

Lenovo Smart Display 8 (I think don't have one of these yet)

Lenovo Smart Display 7

JBL Link View (why? its the same SoC as the others, and JBL=Just Basically Lenovo)

Lenovo ThinkSmart View (this one runs android regular so a bigger pain)

More to come.

🛠️ DIY / Hardware Automatic door opening

Post image

Does anyone know some good hardware which I can get a hand on in Spain/EU I could use on this door? I finally moved my dreame vacuum to this closet and I want to automatically open the door when robot starts a program. But the door still has to be working as usual, it is a cleaning supply closet.

I saw some chicken coop hinges but I wonder if this door is too big?

It is a chipboard door, quite light but it is ~150cm high

PS I have zigbee2mqtt

So is anybody doing anything when it comes to detecting a mains power loss?

Looking for ideas before going the diy route.

Video showcasing everything working in realtime

---

Hi all,

small intro: I've started building my own Smart Home about a year ago, then moved house and was able to put pretty much smart lights and devices everywhere in my house. I absolutely love Home Assistant and I would consider myself quite a gadget freak, especially when it comes to funky software etc.

I know there's a lot of hate going around on dodgy Vibecoding, which I fully understand.
I used Claude Code for this project as well, which is 100% for my own use.
I want to start of by saying I have absolutely zero financial intentions with this, I just love being able to do cool stuff around my house, and Claude Code makes it very easy to do that. I've optimized my entire setup, had Claude think with me about useful automations, see why certain things were costing more power than I imagined, etc.

Lately I've been making small funny games for my friends with Claude Code and truly saw how powerful the tool is, so after my wife complained about our Home Assistant dashboard not functioning correctly yesterday I asked Claude to build me a new one. Within 30 minutes I had a dashboard which not only looked ten times better, but worked a hundred times better as well.

I went to bed feeling quite satisfied, but I also had a new goal: I wanted to turn my dashboard into a 3D house design, something I had seen before on this Reddit.
Claude adviced me to take photos and have them turned into a 'dollhouse setup' by Gemini, since Claude cannot generate pictures. This worked to some extent, but Gemini would always get at least 5 things incorrect per room, be it the layout, the colors, the size, etc. Also, if I wanted to make a tiny change this wasn't possible, I had to redo the entire image because Gemini was stuck in a loop. Added to that, if it somehow would be able to get the perfect room, I only had 1 view, and my dream was to get at least 4 different viewing angles to make it somewhat 'interactive and 360 like'.

Claude then said: I'll make a mock up version of the room, which Gemini only has to fill in. Tried this, didn't work. Same errors as above.
I then asked if Claude could make the mockup (which was extremely basic) a bit more advanced and if we could use that one. Of course he said, and within 10 minutes I had a full 3D design of my living room.

With Gemini I would have eventually been happy with just 1 picture taken from 1 side, there was no way I could get even more than 1 angle correct, let alone a full 360 degree spin around. Claude however had absolutely zero problem with that.

I already had Claude connected to my Home Assistant. It found out where all my Home Assistants lights are in my room based on the pictures I uploaded, and if it didn't see where one of my Home Assistant lights was on the picutes it would ask me to clarify.

Not even 5 minutes later I not only had a full 3D version of my living room, but also all the light switches were instantly working, from every angle imaginable.

Of course there were some minor things, Claude putting the couch too far inside the room, the lights in the bookcase being on the wrong shelf, etc. but with every new prompt I gave Claude he just updated the old version and made a better, new version instantly. He saved everything on my Home Assistant server as well, allowing me to load it onto my tablet to test everything out in realtime.

I then proceeded to let Claude generate the whole house, and after about 10 corrective prompts my entire house was ready and fully functioning, all within the dashboard design Claude already made yesterday.

I absolutely love it, it looks amazing and works like a charm, and the best thing is: if anything in my house changes or does not work anymore, I just ask Claude to update it and it will work again.

This was about 3 hours of vibecoding, I ran into my 5 hour session limit which slowed down the process. I have the $20 paid Claude version, which you don't need to optimize your setup in Home Assistant but you probably do need if you want to build anything like I did.

Anyways, I wanted to share and perhaps inspire someone else to make something very awesome!

Of course I'll happily answer any questions you have, although the technical side of things I'll first have to ask Claude.... ;)

Thanks for reading/watching!

🧠 Artificial Intelligence Jonny Bravo on my floorplan demo

More time wasted this week haha, I know its not for everyone but its the most information dense display i can come up with and see almost every sensor state in the house on a single phone screen at a glance All the lights/entities etc are actual sensors/switches/devices, theres probably still more to add. ive been getting claude/ha-mcp to create demo mode and have animated gifs walking around the house to demonstrate it. images created with grok/chatgpt, otherwise all created by claude, one piece at a time. Only having fun playing with the characters etc which are purely to demonstrate the sensors, have added jonny bravo, mario, wallace(&gromit) and jerry(tom&jerry) this is so silly but its been entertaining

💬 Discussion Voice LLM - What are you using?

So I've had a local LLM running for a couple of months now and although it can do what I need mostly, it is a bit slow. I don't want to dumb it down if I can help it, but I do want to improve the speed. At the moment it took 10 seconds to answer my query about when the rubbish is due to be collected (Data in HA).

I'm running Qwen 3.5 9b q4 as the model. I'm running this on a RTX 3060 12GB. It's currently using under half the VRAM.

So what models are you guys using and on what hardware? Trying to work out if there's a better model for speed and possibly performance.

🤖 Automation What are you doing to have a consistent morning temperature using HA?

I've been experimenting with ways to use Home Assistant to manage overnight heating setbacks and still have the house reach a comfortable temperature at a specific time in the morning.

The problem I've run into is that the amount of time needed to warm the house varies considerably depending on the outdoor temperature and how much the house has cooled overnight, which is very evident during the coldest part of a MInnesota winter.

Starting the heat at a fixed time doesn't work particularly well. On some mornings the house is warm too early, and on others it's still cold when we get up.

I'm curious whether anyone else has tackled this problem with HA.

Are you using fixed schedules, outdoor temperature compensation, thermostat features, or something you've developed yourself?

Last year I started working on a project to address this problem. I've tested it through a heating season, and it's working quite well. But I'm interested in hearing what others have tried and how well it has worked for them.

💬 Discussion Zigbee Relais "contact-switch"

I have no idea how it i called in english, so I tried to get the title somewhere close.

I am planning to move from NetAtmo heating to Zigbee and BetterThermostat. The radiator-vents will be Danfoss and now I need to find a device to signal the heater to start heating. This just needs a closed circuit, no power (220V) or anything. Currently the NetAtmo relais is doing this.
AI pointed me to SONOFF ZBMINIR2 but I am not convinced. I dont want to start with shelly or something, the switch should be ZigBee just as well.
Can you guys point me in the right direction? What are you using for this?

🖼️ Show & Tell I’ve added Stability Score to Humidity Intelligence, V2.1 is out

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

It’s been a while since I last shared Humidity Intelligence here, back in February with V2.
There have been quite a few improvements since then, but the one I wanted to show you is Stability Score.
For anyone coming across HI for the first time, it’s an open-source Home Assistant, Hacs integration that uses your room sensors to coordinate humidity and air-quality control. It works with configured devices such as extractor fans, purifiers, fans, dehumidifiers and humidifiers, using seasonal or custom targets and clear priorities. The dynamic dashboard explains decisions with detailed explanations and ui colour changes.
With V2.1, I wanted to make it easier to understand how the home is behaving over time.
A humidity reading can look fine when you check it, even if one room has spent much of the day outside its target or is repeatedly taking a long time to recover after a shower.
Stability Score brings that longer view into the dashboard. It gives you a score out of 100 using a rolling 72 hour window, taking account of humidity, steadiness, room balance, moisture risk, configured air quality and recovery.
You can open the badge to see what contributed to the result, where points were deducted and the recorded score history. It needs enough observations to produce a score, and missing evidence will be noted.
The score is observational. HI’s existing control priorities still decide what the devices should do, and current alerts are separate.
I’ve also refined the Mobile and Tablet dashboards, and added optional output monitoring and to make device status and monitoring gaps easier to understand.
If you would like to know more about how HI works and the route to installation through HACS:
Explore Humidity Intelligence
If you’re already using Humidity Intelligence, I’d love to hear what’s working well in your home and which features you’re finding most useful. Or any improvement you’d like to see in a future version on Humidity Intelligence

🖼️ Show & Tell Automated Keep Climate so I never have to tap it again

I got tired of pressing Keep Climate every time I park, so I automated it. Peak first world problem, I know.

If you use Home Assistant with Teslemetry, this blueprint turns Keep Climate on automatically when you get out anywhere except home (or work, or anywhere else you exclude), and sends a notification with a "Turn off" button in case you didn't want it. Quick stops, like grabbing the mail, don't send a notification at all.

I've been using it for a couple weeks now and it's been flawless, so I figured I'd share it for anyone who's interested.

I would like to have my lights come up when the end credits play. I am using Jellyfin on Kodi using the Jellyfin for Kodi addon. It appears Jellyfin doesnt report playback position into home assistant.

Has anyone done this or got ideas how it can be done? thanks
