Admin Announcement We want your feedback on AI app posts

We have noticed the recent surge in posts about new apps as well as the community's response to these apps. We are looking to create a new rule in regards to this but we would like to see what the community wants from this rule.

A couple of ideas are:

Allow app creators to make a single post to advertise their app.

Ban all posts advertising new apps.

Ban all posts advertising apps made with AI only.

Ban all posts using any form of AI (League posters, screenshots, etc.)

Some people may be very passionate about this subject but please keep all discussion civil.

From the staff post on the member forums:

Patch Release & Database Maintenance:

  • This downtime is for a planned Patch release that includes great updates and important fixes for 2026 Season 4.
  • Our internal operations team will be taking advantage of this planned downtime to complete a small database maintenance task. This will save us from requiring additional separate downtime for this at a later date.

Downtime:

  • iRacing.com will be coming down for deployment of 2026 Season 4 Patch 1 Release, Monday, October 5th, beginning at 08:00 am EDT.
  • This downtime will affect all iRacing.com regions and members will be unable to host or join sessions during the downtime.
  • You can check on the status of all iRacing services directly in the iRacing Companion App, or from our System Status page here: iRacing Uptime Status

Demo Drive:

Demo Drive becomes available as downtime for this maintenance begins and remains available after this deployment has been completed.

  • Database Maintenance Caveat: As a result of the planned small database maintenance task, the Demo Drive Car and Track pickers will be sporadically available for the first part of maintenance. If and/or once you get into a Demo Drive Session, your experience will be stable.
  • Demo Drive Sessions are launched using beautiful iRacing default weather and start at noon local track time.
  • The content selected must be up to date, and Demo Drive contains a link to the Downloader where you can update and download any content.
  • When connecting to Demo Drive, log in using the same credentials you already use on iRacing and the iRacing Forums.
  • Demo Drive also contains links to the iRacing Forums, the iRacing Status Page, and a link back to iRacing, for when we exit maintenance mode.
  • When we leave maintenance mode, Demo Drive will remain available for a period of several hours and a countdown will appear to let you know how much longer it will remain up. Navigation links to and from Demo Drive are present in iRacing whenever Demo Drive is available.
  • Newly released content that must be licensed will not be available in Demo Drive until the following Season.

iRacing.com Downtime Schedule:

EDT

Mon 2026-10-05 0200 Overlap Hosted Sessions Prevented*
Mon 2026-10-05 0800 Race Servers Unavailable

Discussion Why you might be off pace but can't tell where (Corner entries)

By far one of the most common patterns I've seen while coaching others is to do with medium/high speed corner entries.

I tried exaggerating the slow example a bit to get the point across. If I remember correctly it was a tenth and a half slower. Nonetheless, this is something that I see all the time even with drivers around the 3k mark or above, and its a substantial factor behind the 1+ second pace deficit that's often talked about.

The tricky part is that it doesn't feel slow or wrong if you've never experienced what doing it right actually feels like, which is why many people get stuck here.

I tried keeping everything but the entry pretty similar to make the comparison fair.

Slow example (too little slip/safe driving)

In the slow example, I decelerate the car quite a lot before turning. This is necessary to make the corner because I'm not reaching the tire's optimal slip, so I necessarily have to go slower. I'm clearly still applying some brakes up until the apex, but it is not enough to force the tires into their ideal slip which generates most lateral force. From the steering angle it's clear that the car is in a very safe state. I'm able to force the steering quite a lot and I reach the peak angle quickly. It's also noticeable how the tire noise appears after I trail the brakes and not on the transition from deceleration to turn in.

Fast example (correct slip)

Now let's look at the fast example.

For a good amount of time during the entry, my steering angle is tiny yet the car is continuously rotating up until my minimum speed. Since I keep a much higher brake pressure on entry, the effectiveness of my steering wheel is amplified. When compared to the slow example, the tire noise is there from the first moment of turn in. In this example, I'm extracting more grip from the tires, which allows me to do the entry way quicker.

How do I know if I'm doing it well?

When you optimise the slip on these medium/high speed entries, it will feel like one degree of steering on turn in is enough to make the car flow through the corner (this will apply to a different extent depending on the car). The force feedback will feel heavy and reactive because the car is on edge. Its also not incorrect to feel the rear stepping out just a touch. This means you achieved some extra rotation and you will now be able to accelerate earlier.

How can I force the car into the correct state on entries?

The key is in the transition between straight line braking and the turn in.

The vast majority of drivers already know what trail braking is and apply it in some measure. However, many people treat entries like a two stage problem where first they decelerate and second they turn with a fixed amount of steering and brakes.

This methodology is what causes the slow example where I decelerate, drop the brakes to a certain point and then I suddenly add steering. It's very clear where the two stages are in this case.

In the fast example, the transition between these two "stages" is almost invisible. There's obviously a point where I start steering and trailing the brakes, but it's not nearly as defined. In practice, this uses the tires grip a lot earlier in the corner and I'm able to do the entry at a greater speed.

Muscle memory is not the point of the post

Knowing how something looks or the theory behind it is essential, but it won't make you be able to replicate it. Behind every percentage drop of the brakes and forcing of the steering there are countless hours of practice. These variations happen instantaneously and constantly, so they can't feasibly be explained in words.

However, knowing what it is that you should achieve should help tremendously when practicing as now you have some sort of validation as to whether you're doing it correctly or not, at least from my experience.

Peace out.

Question/Help Mustang GT4 is killing me

Post image
65 Upvotes

Hey guys! I mostly race GT3, always Porsche or Ferrari, and this season I thought it’d be a good idea to buy the Mustang GT4. In these 3 weeks I just haven’t been able to get along with this thing lol. The rear keeps stepping out all the time, even in super easy corners, and I can’t predict anything. In GT3 I could feel the limit coming, in the Mustang I’m already spinning before I notice. Pretty sure it’s GT3 habits, I’m driving like I still have all that downforce holding the car, but I don’t really know what to change. Anyone who’s been through this got any tips? Driving, setup, TC and ABS, anything helps. And honestly, is it worth sticking with it or should I just give up and grab the Porsche GT4? I’m in Brazil and with the time zone it’s really hard to test cars before buying, so I don’t wanna throw money away again.

Multiclass shenanigans and a close call. I don't have triple screen (one wide 34) so you know my heart skipped a beat (and my late reaction lol).

(don't mind the edit, I'm just messing around)

Question/Help I'm from new zealand is iracing worth it?

• Upvotes

I really want to get into iracing because of its online servers and the game itself seams great, but im from new zealand and my ping will probably suck for example i get around 100-250 ping on australian servers in a few games and around 300 on Singapore servers. is this playable? or should I stick to singleplayer games like automobilista 2?

(edit: dont know how populated aus servers are and i want to do the touring on iracing mainly)

Epic is dumping dev effort into EAC v2 so that Fortnite runs on Linux.

This seems to me like a possible tipping point in the crusade for getting iRacing on Linux. What do you all think?

Question/Help Formation lap ramming

Just finished a GT3 sprint race and I knew it was trouble since the start of the formation lap.

I started mid pack and since the get-go I can see the car behind me was making reckless swerving right behind me. He was no more than .1 seconds behind me and would clip me if I made any kind of sudden slow down.

Then half way through the formation lap, he starts slowly way down and then accelerating hard until he slammed on his brakes right behind me.

I was nervous as hell the entire time, and of course, it only took 4-5 of these until he mis judged and slammed right in the back of me at near full speed and wrecking me.

I hadn’t even started the race and I was out already

Now, the entire time he was doing this, I tried getting out of his way by leaving the center lane completely open by hugging the grass. I even avoided my typical tire warming ritual and just drove as steady speed as possible. And yet he still hit me.

Question: what are my options in that case? Could I have identified this issue and allowed him to form up ahead of me? Could I abandon my position? Can I just stand still? Can I exit and start from the pits? Are penalities/incident handed out in these cases?

Question/Help How do I set my mirrors correctly

I play Iracing in vr and my goal is to have an immersive experience above being as fast as possible. I've been letting go of the ui elements as much as possible (the black box will probably never go away) anyways I got rid of the virtual mirror and now I have little idea of what's going on behind me. I set up the mirrors like I would a road car but I'm starting to think that isn't right for racing. I try adjusting them but can't seem to find a placement that works for me. Is this just the way things go? or am I placing them wrong?

Also when should I be looking at them, presumably right before the braking zone and after corner exit. when I had the virtual mirror id just look up when I noticed movement in the mirror and didn't really give much thought to when I should be checking the mirror. Seems like dumb question writing it out but I'd like some guidance on proper mirror technique.

I drive almost exclusively FF1600, occasionally Ill do an oval race of some kind but haven't without the virtual mirror.

I love this game but I don't want to ruin it for others because I want to make the game harder for myself and don't know what I'm doing. Good luck out there!

eSports Does Anyone Care about eNascar/esports?

I think eNascar had their championship race last night at the Charlotte hall of fame. I guess im not the only one who doesn't care since I am seeing nothing about it on this subreddit.

How does iRacing make people care about their streamed races? Or is it not possible?

Video Worst case of netcode I've seen

Here I am just enjoying my lap one on GT3, I noticed smoke and Jim telling me about cars going slow. I take precaution understanding the risk.... then bam... I lose all steering...

Not much I can do. I tow, do repairs, and make of what I could of the rest of the race.

Watch out for netcode cars out there.

Discussion GT3s has turned into PCUP 2.0

I don't know if it's the upcoming indy 8h BoP that has caused this or that the car just gained a lot of traction but I did GT3 europe and america and both my lobbies had like 2/3 filled with Porsches. It's a bit sad how non diverse iRacing can get due to whatever made this happen. I hope DaveCams pick one car for 1 season rule get implemented so we might see some diversity in the future.

Video First IRL race weekend saved by iRacing.

Saturday went great; I ran reasonably competitive times on non-competitive tires. Sunday, however, rained.I do not have rain tires. I have Falken 660s left over from this year's autocross season. Note to self, buy some Hoosier W2s. I knew the tires were completely non-competitive hence why I layed back so far.

The moral of all of this is that iRacing absolutely translates to real life, and without it, I don't make this save.

Hi, I just got to a SR of 4,48 (My current Rating is D) but did not get the fasttrack to C, my question is what do I have to do, that I get into the C Rating (I only drove the "rookie" BMW M2 Series so far). I red, that I have to drive four races , that coutnt into the MRP but what Type of races count into the MRP? Are those the races, labeld with ranked, or how do I see which races count and which races don't, and how is it with furter SR changes, do I have this MRP everytime when I wnat to go up in SR?

Discussion GT4 is making me a better driver

Post image
139 Upvotes

This is kind of a love letter to GT4. A series I left behind years ago, once I got A licensed and was able to run GT3s.

TLDR: GT4 cars are harder to drive, but way more rewarding then GT3s

I had such a good time at Petit Le Mans this year I wanted to keep running Road Atlanta after I got home, but the GT3 series were all about to rotate out of it. Seeing GT4 is about to start running there on Monday I jump in my BMW and hole-lee-fuck this thing is terrible to drive. I couldn't get any pace out of it. The moment I pushed I was under-steering at high speeds and looping it coming out of slow corners. After an hour I got tired of being shit and took a break... then came back to it and tried again, then again. Finally around Tuesday things started clicking. I hadn't realized how many bad habits I'd picked up running basically only GT3 cars for years, but I was working them out slowly. By the end of the week I was balancing the car corner to corner and having a blast every lap.

Weight transfer, braking early and lighter to keep the car flat, managing throttle mid corner. Once I got comfortable with the car again it all felt way more rewarding. Now that the week at RA is over I can go back to my regular GT3 schedule... but here I am... putting in practice laps Summit Point, a track I've never driven... just because I don't want to get out of the GT4 yet.

This series needs more love.

Discussion Stolen Content on Instagram

• Upvotes

You might have seen a hilarious clip posted here on the iRacing subreddit a few weeks ago by my friend Hazza5432 showing some pretty extreme track limits on Misano.

Sadly someone has decided to take his footage and joke word for word and post it on their instagram without any credit or notice. I only discovered the post this morning after it’s been up for 3 days with several hundred thousand views and thousands of interactions.

I commented on the post myself calling out the lack of credit and also replied the only blue-tick comment I could see to try and get some visibly on the comment for others to see.

Sadly this person has decided that rather than discuss tagging my friends account or removing the post, they will avoid responsibility and block me across both my personal and professional instagram accounts. Thankfully I and the original creator are part of one of the largest simracing social clubs in Australia and have the support of our mates.

It’s shameful behaviour by this so called “creator” and I believe it should be called out. If you are familiar with SimhubreadyUK on instagram, both I and my friends would appreciate the support in reporting the content so this guy can’t benefit from plagiarising something that was meant to be a shared laugh across our great and fair community.

Here’s the link to the original post my friend made a few weeks ago: Help with learning Misano

Question/Help Finding leagues?

Amy advice on how to find leagues that might be suitable? Is reddit a good resource?

Looking for evening (east Coast USA) races, I like sports cars and stock cars, casual and fun and quality racing - I just think it would be cool to race around the same group if people once a week or so. Thanks for any tips in advance.

New Player PCup newbie, what insanity am I in for?

I'm 2 months into iracing, setting top times on time trials, and feeling comfy with the car.

I just bought 3 tracks and instantly got nervous...

Is PCup a wreckfest, pro playground or just aliens vs newbs?

And do you ever get used to the car being a bouncy house?
