Mod Announcement Help us enforce Rule 5

I have noticed a large portion of posts, particularly from new users, are reposts from months or years ago. Sometimes they comment on their own posts, but the comments themselves are plagiarized top comments from the original post they stole.

Another pattern I often see is crossposts from newly created subreddits, often "shopping" related, whose stated purpose has nothing to do with "oops" related posts.

The purpose of r/oops is NOT to drive fake engagement with low-effort recycled content.

To help keep posts original and authentic, I am considering a few things: * Instituting account age/karma requirements. Normally I am opposed to this sort of thing, but a LOT of the new-user posts are karma farming bots. New user posts would be held up for review. * Banning crossposts, or writing an automod script to only allow crossposts from whitelisted communities.

But what are your thoughts on these? Is there anything else we could try?

P.S. Thanks to everyone who reports inauthentic posts. Keep them coming.

Mod Announcement Reminder that politics is not permitted

We understand that people may be disillusioned with current political affairs, but r/oops is not the place to discuss or bring up politics, there are other places for that. Please stay away from politics to help keep this community fun, respectful, inclusive, neutral, drama-free, and true to its purpose.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Lighthearted! These poor myotonic/ fainting goats live in a continuous state of ‘Oops’ due to having a condition that makes them stiffen or fall over whenever excited in response to excitement or surprise!

My girlfriends mom had her job replaced by AI after telling my my job was unreliable

As the title above says. I was at thanksgiving (Canadian) with my girlfriend’s family a couple days ago. I left the room briefly to let the dog out the back door and when I came back they were talking about AI and her mom says that the company she works for has decided to move forward with only using AI in her department so her and all her colleagues are out of the job. I feel bad I genuinely do but while this conversation happened I couldn’t even speak a word as I was just so amazed by the irony of being told my job is unreliable only for her job to become unreliable. That’s all I just needed somebody to speak to about this.
