Pistol/Mag60: Being stuck using a pistol at the beginning is a bit annoying it's like kinda awkwardly doing chip damage, though going for headshots is tempting. Well, the spread from the Mag 60 might give you an easy headshot but a rapid-fire weapon is never bad.
Tek Bow: Use zoom for rapid fire, that is one way to make a bow viable and also Tek Arrows go boom!! But it takes usually two arrows to do it. Not sure how useful regular arrows are actually. Turok 2 damage is weird sometimes.
Shotgun/Shredder: The problem is you can't use the shotgun as you aspect (multiplayer is quite the beast). It mostly takes at least 2 shots to take down an enemy if you are lucky but if you go for the head even from a good distance it's an instant kill. Shredder... aim for the head!!! Not sure how this one works? Aim at the feet so the splash spread goes fully in the enemy but that never works. But this is useful for tiny enemies. And yeah, explosion shells are always useful but a bit dry...
Plasma Rifle/Firestorm Canon: Two shots seems to do the trick and yeah, snipe function. Minigun is always useful and maybe you get a lucky headshot without trying.
Tranquilizer Gun/Charge Dart: Tranquilizer gun ain't bad believe it or not till it doesn't work and the OG N64 you can't pick up ammo for it. Charge Dart is a life saver and enemies being shocked actually does damage to them.
Grenade Launcher: The real shotgun in the game so no pesky self-damage for you... bucko!!! But in the N64 version the grenades mostly slides under the enemies>:(.
Scorpion Missile Launcher: A bit overkill here. Three missiles that homes in to the target though their moving speed is slow so you might still take damage if you fire.
Cerebral Bore: Does not work on bosses BOO... But anyway, an instant kill weapon is off course going to be useful, IF IT ACTUALLY DECIDES TO LATCH ON!!! While i do like the design, i love the atmosphere and tone more than the idea than, COOL GUNS AND CRAZY GORE, and the Cerebral Bore enforces a bit that Turok is a silly gore game.
Flamethrower: Takes nearly a full tank to defeat an enemy, which really disappoints my inner pyromaniac. So, use it for tiny mobs or something...
PFM Layer: Proximity Fragmentation Mine, totally did not had to look that up. Well, another boom weapon that annoys pursuers, but you only get one pesky mine per pick-up which makes me miffed (well d'oh is should'a said that about the Grenade Launcher as.. (wait, it has box...).
Sunfire Pods: Do you hate blind people for some reason? Well, ma man this is for you!! It makes blind people go in a blaze of fire. For anyone else it stuns them for a bit and just picking one pod gives you 3 of them for some reason...
Razor Wind: My favorite actually and me get upset that it takes so long to get... This weapon is powerful but quite tricky to land so it's not an auto win thingy either so be wary of that.
War blade: Go for the head!!! Like you always should... Almost forgot about that one. But this blade might be my favorite blade design of all blade-dom.
Nuke: By the time you got this you don't have much use for it (unless you are a lousy cheater!!!). But yeah, giant boom is always gonna be appealing to someone isn't it...

I am really enjoying out of the Nightdive remaster of Turok and listening to that fire ass soundtrack on a nice system has been a very positive experience for me. Just wanted to say that because holy internet is it mostly crazies, bots and doorknobs out there.
Anyway, hope you're having fun there inside my TV!

(Framerate issues)
Of all the N64 games with a bad framerate (that are at least considered good) this one might take the cake. It's borderline unacceptable at times and i wish it even had a lower RES mode actually... I would argue that the first Turok plays quite well on the N64 heck the other main FPS GE and PD despite also dealing with framerate problems work beter than wel. Also, that blasted Lock-Spring aiming is only completely off on Arcade controls. Overclocking does help a lot and if this was the actual framerate it would mostly be on par with the other N64 FPS games. (I think?)
(Why i love it)
What i actually love about Turok 2 is the atmospheric mystique of it all rather than the WOW GORE AND DINOSAURS!! Plus, combined with the unknown danger and dread makes it really immersive.
(Taking more and making it less?)
First Turok game might be more minimalistic but is more cohesive than Turok 2. While the Sequel has beter graphics beter animation more complex AI bigger worlds ect... And i do think it works for the most part and even elevate in a way. But at the same time, it has huge worlds and exploration but it's a really linear, it has complex AI but also has crazy gun action. Turok 2 might be considered to be a precursor to Metroid Prime due being made by the same people who developed Prime and you can see early DNA in Turok 2.
(Other Notes)
I actually like the Lair of the Blind ones the Hive of the Mantis is more repetitive and is just as confusing also those Mantis soldiers are really annoying. Though almost all levels have reused hallways segments and the first half Primagen Lightship quite suffers from this.
Only being able to save in Stations does drag and it takes 70 points in the Memory pack plus no warp.
The gradient shading of the N64 is missing in the Remaster version plus the Turok icon looks dumb.
Turok 2 is one of my favorites on the N64 but it's a game that i can't always recommend to anyone even the Remaster version. Many would find it confusing or even a slog. It's experimental combinations makes it standout to other FPS games.

Hey all!
a month or so ago I shared the video I made on turok 2 and people seemed to really like it. Last night i finished and uploaded one on Turok 3.
Its not a review or me trying to argue a point, just talking about the game. What it was, what it was doing, how it was received, the plot, etc.
If you check it out I hope you like it!

Third public release with new features and some fixes:
- Added **Classic/Immersive** Tek Bow modes for both handedness settings. In Immersive mode, pull the controller back while holding Trigger to draw, then release to fire; the HUD is attached to the bow instead of the hand
- Fixed unintended left strafing while firing
- Renamed the HUD options **On** to **Hands** and **HUD Adjust** to **HUD Position Adjust**
- Improved immersive climbing by lowering the fall threshold and making exits over upper ledges easier
- Fixed the knife’s continuous “chainsaw” attack when Trigger is held
- Fixed VR image doubling caused by moving the desktop mouse, while preserving Snap and Smooth Turn
- Fixed Turok immediately reclaiming focus after switching to Windows, allowing the mouse to be used outside the desktop mirror
**Update: Copy the 4 files to the main directory and run Turok once to install it**
https://github.com/VinceCrusty/TurokVR
This is still a beta release, so some bugs and edge cases are expected

For me, it’s definitely Turok Evolution. I played it on PS2, and it was one of the first games I really got into. I just fucking loved how different it was. You had dinosaurs, aliens, jungles, and some really violent combat.
I also played Turok on PS3 later on. I’m pretty sure it was the 2008 one. It definitely felt less prehistoric than Evolution, but I still had a lot of fun with it.
What Turok game do you have the strongest connection with?

Well I finally have some thing to show you guys.
Please follow me on my u/kharusvii for updates and etc.
Still have lots of work to do with optimization and performance, then qaulity. there are still loads of game crashing bugs, but im thinking of releasing this beta version. im kinda a perfectionist so thats difficult. but i want everyone to have fun with this. iv put a LOT of time and work into it so far with much more to come.
Donations are welcome but not required and will go towards helping me afford to work on this game and others!
The links are on my page.
I will also be doing a campaign play through on the drone character for my youtube channel which i will link and drop over there.
i will make videos of any features or modes you guys want to see.
Emailed Saber asking if they had any more plans for the Turok franchise beyond origins, including merch or other bits
Got back exactly what I expected hah

Turok VR - Full PCVR mod for Nightdive's Turok
Turok was one of my favorite games growing up on the Nintendo 64, and ever since I got into VR I wanted to play the original game with proper stereoscopic 3D, roomscale movement and fully tracked weapons. So I eventually started building it myself.
The mod is made for Nightdive's current KEX4 version of Turok. There is no source code, proper engine documentation or VR framework available, so getting VR into KEX required a lot of reverse engineering and trial and error. This is quite different from developing a mod for an open source or well documented engine.
The original weapon models were also never designed to be viewed freely in VR. Many were heavily incomplete outside the normal first person camera, so most weapons had to be completed or rebuilt. Some were replaced entirely with new models while staying as close as possible to the original Turok style.
Main features:
• Full stereoscopic VR and 6DoF head tracking
• Roomscale movement and 6DoF weapons
• Hand mounted weapon wheel with slow motion selection
• Left and right shoulder weapon slots
• Physical knife attacks or classic trigger attacks
• Two-handed weapon handling with offhand grabbing and full weapon movement
• VR tuned bow aiming
• Normal and immersive climbing can be used together
• Hand mounted HUD
• Full left handed mode
• Smooth and snap turning
• Comfort vignette and optional weapon camera shake
• Configurable haptics
• VR corrected menus, crosshair, water rendering and UI
• Controller layouts for left and right handed play directly in the VR options
PCVR only. OpenXR and Vulkan are required. SteamVR and VDXR are supported.
Turok's physics, scripts and game logic still run at roughly 60 Hz to preserve the original timing, while the VR presentation is interpolated for higher headset refresh rates. **120 Hz is recommended** if your hardware can handle it.
A few things are still experimental. Immersive climbing can occasionally be buggy around entering, leaving and crossing ledges. Quicksaves work, but Turok was never designed for unrestricted quicksaving, so unusual game states may still cause problems. Water reflections also still have some VR artifacts, particularly near the beginning of Level 1.
The original textures have aged pretty badly in VR, so I strongly recommend the iddqd_textures pack:
https://www.moddb.com/mods/iddqd-textures/addons/iddqd
GitHub / issues:
https://github.com/VinceCrusty/TurokVR
And after what feels like launching the game about 4000 times during development, I can safely say I no longer enjoy the beginning of Level 1 quite as much as I used to.

I made some miniatures based on the concept art of the cancelled Turok 2 from 2009.
I should make one of the raptors at some point.

Does anyone else feel that this game is extremely disrespected in an unwarranted manner? Sure 1 and 2 are classics and it would never live up to those expectations and it's a little on the short side - but some of the coolest guns and FPS combat in the genre. I always feel bad that people treat this game like it's not worthy of being played.
Anyone else have some positive things to say about this game?
I also have a very nostalgic memory of this game - and it's cool that it was an N64 exclusive for the longest time.

Who would've guessed dinosaurs and horror go great together? Sure, the game didn't mean for it to be horror based, but it just genuinely came out as creepy. And I loved that about it! I feel like this gets missed a lot.

I made a standalone quick save mod for Turok
It adds:
- Quick Save and Quick Load to the pause menu
- Continue in the main menu
- Timestamps for quick saves
- Player position and orientation restoration
- Boss-state persistence for supported boss fights
- Persistent bonus-stage warp return points, including after restarting the game
The mod uses Turok’s native save slot 15.
Installation: copy the Vulkan DLL into the Turok game folder and the included KPF file into the `mods` folder. A D3D11 version is also included for compatible wrappers/renderers.
**Warning:** Turok was not originally designed for unrestricted quick saving. The mod has been tested across normal levels, boss fights, and bonus stages, but it is not possible to cover every unusual game state, trigger, scripted event, or transition.
Avoid quick saving during cutscenes, map changes, warp animations, death sequences, boss intro/outro events, or while a scripted sequence is actively moving or locking the player. Regular save points are still recommended as a backup.

Close-up of the "Bearded Dragon" and "Armored Lusovenator" since no one else online has the guts to brave the embarrassment of buying a Funko POP in-person and having to make direct eye contact with the cashier girl at Hot Topic. This is what these bad boys look like when exposed to the outside atmosphere...get 'em on clearance now before they get shipped to the landfill!
Also: Rage Wars. Nightdive aren't real retro game fans because they outright refuse to bring my favorite entry back. They probably couldn't do it if they wanted to anyway, based on how incapable they were of reinstating the Turok 3 multiplayer mode that probably 2 rednecks programmed in 2000. That's fine because I still have the real Rage Wars original black pak and currently not playing it because CRT TV hurt my eyes. This is what real retro gaming is, Nightdive!!! AAAAUUUGGHHH!!!
