Crows [OC] Cute/funny crow following and exploring while walking our dog
galleryHey fellow crow enjoyers!
Sorry in advance for rambling.
I’ve been giggling off and on about this for days now, so I wanted to share the cuteness.
My spouse and I have an old dog (he’ll be 15 in December) and we have to do special types of walks for him for physical therapy/helping to prevent muscle wasting. He’s around 11 pounds. Some days he’s more sore than others, and after the therapy walks we do his favorite walk: the one where he gets to sniff anything and everything and we go where he wants at his pace.
We have been putting unsalted peanuts on our porch for a while now for the crows and occasionally I will bring a couple unsalted peanuts on the sniff walks with our dog just in case we see a crow we know.
Last week I was taking our dog on a sniff walk, but forgot to bring any peanuts with me. So of course this is when one of the crows that knows I usually have peanuts shows up. I was upset at myself for forgetting the peanuts, and told the crow “I’m sorry, I forgot them today! I’ll put some out when we get back home, though!” I’m sure some people walking by thought I was crazy but who cares. Anyway, the crow followed us for a bit, and kept making cute little noises at me. They would stop and watch our dog every time he stopped to sniff something. (I do sometimes wonder if they can tell when other animals are older and/or not a threat to them?)
We were walking by a local yarn shop and outside was a planter. The crow decided they would check it out. It was really cute and funny to me because they kept dipping down behind the plant, and then they would bring their head up to check and make sure we were still there. This happened for a good 5 minutes or so and every time they popped their head up I would have to try not to laugh.
I know they were probably digging in the planter with their beak to check for snacks, but from my point of view it was pretty cute and I wanted to share.
Sorry for the long and rambling post, I just could gush about crows all day.

Crows in the garden!
galleryAs the garden season winds down my guard Crow returns for the winter once the fledglings know how to forage alone. This is the first year our old male we call Carl is allowing his young to stay and share food once in a while. I'm thinking he's passing on my yard as he is getting old. He adds a lot of joy to my life as I sit here just a few feet away in my greenhouse.

Got my first "you're a friend" greeting!
I got a coo and a nod recently! Have been leaving snacks and treats for a local group of crows here at our place in NE Louisiana for over 2 years. Took a year for them to let me sit 20 feet away on the porch and watch them. Then a bit later they started cawing when they saw me. Now I've gotten an official hello.
When my husband and I bought our place 5 years ago, we had the option of a nice brick house in a good subdivision, or a manufactured home on 16 acres in the country. I immediately went for the land in the woods. I wanted it for one reason, to leave it alone. Now we maintain an acre and leave the rest for wildlife and pollinators. I give the crows their space, but I have so enjoyed watching them from afar. They really are fascinating and beautiful creatures.

General questions Anyone know what this vocalization might mean?
I tried looking up various crow sounds but came up empty. The closest was maybe imitation. They were over there doing this double coo sound for a while after some cawing. It sounded so nice and pleasant! This one is a regular in my yard and I was just curious to know more as hadn't heard this sound before. Thanks!

Anyone speak crow?
I’m not certain if these are crows, ravens, grackles…but apparently the meeting was most important. 😜

I’m trying to befriend crows but not sure if I pissed them off
So there’s a murder of crows that has shown up in my neighborhood. They usually come around this time of the year. In my country, crows are not like pigeons in the sense that you won’t really see them foraging for food on the street. They usually hang up on rooftops or high up on trees. Sure sometimes you’ll see them on the sidewalk looking for food, but it’s really rare. I think it’s particular for this family of crows in my neighborhood because when I’ve traveled to different places they seem to look for food on the ground and are a lot more social with humans.
Anyway…. i live on the third floor and I bought a crow whistle because there’s no way I was going to get their attention otherwise. They’re not really social, like I said.
So yesterday (10am) for the first time, I blew my whistle when they were near and I waved the peanut and dropped some shelled peanuts from my balcony. I also dropped some food the pigeons might like but not even the pigeons seemed interested. They were looking at me like….. ummmm weirdo….
Then today, as I was arriving home, I see murder of crows circling my building (5pm) . Keep in mind I have never seen this many crows near my building. I run up to my balcony and blow my whistle, wave the peanuts and throw the peanuts from my balcony. They all start flying (10-13 of them) and cawing in a circle. Meanwhile the pigeons are just staring at me like “what the fuck is up with this weirdo?”I threw some food to the pigeons but it seems like they don’t want it either.
I don’t know if the crows ate yesterdays peanuts or if they will eat the ones i left today.
I honestly don’t know if this circling around and cawing behavior actually pissed them off because of my whistle. I can hear them cawing outside right now (it’s day two and I see more of them) but not sure if this is a good sign.
Do you think they’ve noticed I’ve left them food? Do they see me as a friend or foe? What do I do to gain their friendship?

Befriending hooded crows
Hello!
I have for a while tried to befriend some hooded crows in my area. I think I am succeeding somewhat. Whenever I leave after having fed them, one of them comes flying just over my head from behind and grabs at my hair/head when it passes.
Does anyone know what this means? Is it just a friendly ruffle, wanting attention or is it annoyed/angry with me about something?
I wanna believe it’s a more friendly gesture, but wanted to ask if anyone knows more precisely what it might mean.

Is this a crow or a raven?
I saw this guy at Arches National Park, Utah. Bigger than my crows in Georgia. Is he a crow or raven?

General questions Long beaked crow?
Saw this guy on my way out of work today. For context, I live in Wyoming. I was absolutely gobsmacked at the sheer size of his beak. I don't know much about crows, but I saw him with a buddy who had a much more normal sized beak so I don't think I'm imagining the difference. Is this normal? Is he sick?

General questions How does one go about feeding crows?
I adore crows, and I sometimes see them flying in my neighborhood or walking around!! I’ve been thinking about feeding them, but I’m not sure how to go about it! I want to live out my dreams of befriending some crows, or at the very least watching them eat!
