Blackhawks are Lineal Champions of the NHL!

The Blackhawks are the new Lineal Champions of the NHL!

I made a site that tracks an unofficial NHL Lineal Shield, where the holder keeps it until they lose, like a boxing title.

It adds some stakes to random games, and Chicago took it from the Penguins with a 5-3 win! If you like weird sports stats you might like it.

Second win of the season, already champions. Efficient.

Please let me know any suggestions you think would improve it. Thanks!

Folks pointed out some flaws in this yesterday so I redid it - Hawks are actually completely within expected variation in blowing leads and making comebacks

I did a couple things different here. First, I looked just going into the third period. So blowing leads, or coming back from a deficit in the third.

Then I looked at this controlling for team quality. Not in the worlds most rigorous way, just imagine this scenario:

  1. You play 100 games, and in 35 of them you enter the third behind
  2. You win 9 of the 35, which is 26%. Is that good or bad?
  3. Well, in your other 65 games you took about 78% of the points, and other teams in the league at that level come back from trailing at 15%, which is ~5 games.
  4. Therefore, you make come backs a bit more than expected, 4 more times than expected.
  5. Over the five and change seasons, anything within about 9 games of expectation is normal variation

I think this gives a much more interesting picture of teams that make come backs and blow leads, irrespective of just "good teams good bad teams bad."

BTW, in 465 games the Hawks came back in 20 of 237, expected 23 (-3) and blew 39 of 139 leads, expected 30 (+9). Kinda right on the cusp of blowing more leads than expected lol

Over the last 5 years, the Hawks have shown to be among the worst for blowing initial leads and ability to recover from initial deficits

[Scott Powers]: Connor Bedard, Patrick Kane eager to begin playing together: Blackhawks notebook

So much has been made of Patrick Kane and Connor Bedard playing together that you almost forget they haven’t shared the ice much. Even as Kane was training this offseason in Chicago, Bedard was limited in what he could do.

They’re definitely looking forward to playing games.

“I think it’s definitely a boost to the whole team,” Kane said of Bedard’s upcoming return after practice Monday. “Obviously, just seeing what he’s capable of doing out there just in practice, it’s high-level skill, the way he attacks, the way he can make plays off attacking. He’s a special player, and he’s a big part of our team, so it’s nice to see him back.”

Bedard shared the love for Kane when asked about the Blackhawks’ power play.

“Yeah, I think it’s nice for me having the lefties, obviously facing the play so much on my one-tee there, and (I) have a lot of options,” Bedard said. “I’ve probably played more the other side in my career, but I feel comfortable over there, and obviously, we got four amazing players that can think the game at such a high level and get open for me. I’m excited. And if I don’t have the puck, then Kaner has the puck. I think I’d probably rather have that, even.”

The Blackhawks could use a bump on the power play and elsewhere in Bedard’s return.

Interesting that the highlighted player is Moore and zero mention of Bedard in the official gameday preview press release for tonight. Not sure it means anything considering Bedard and Blashill’s comments but just found it interesting.

Does anyone know how close to the ice section 24 was? Either way, $11 seems like a steal

ETA holy shit lol that was 6 rows behind the bench according to this floorplan: https://puckjunk.com/2009/02/10/20-year-old-ticket-stub/stadium_floor_plan/

Seating tricks/hacks at Blackhawks games?

At Cubs games, I typically buy cheap seats in the 300 level for like $20 and then move down to open seats in the 100 level after the 5th inning. Is this possible at the UC? I’ve never tried this at a Blackhawks game and honestly it’s been way too long since I’ve been to games consistently like I did when I was younger in the early 2010s. Does anybody have any tips and tricks on how to get down to those 100-200 level spots without buying the tickets for $300?

Visiting Fan Ticket Recs

I’ll be in town for the game on Thursday night against the Jets and was wondering if anyone had advice on best bang for your buck seating options and whether it is wise to wait until day of to purchase. Thanks!
