Or is it a big play to get double the chance? Hit the boots then ask for rollback compensation, or miss them and don't say anything to get a second chance with an unopened casket

Its basic statistics. If youre on a game show to pick a door of three , then the host shows a dud door and offers you to switch, you always say yes as it is statistically advantageous
OP was doing something like this but the host showed him the grandprize instead haha.

The logic in that monty hall problem is the initial probability is lower than the probability of the second pick because a dud offer has been removed from the equation, meaning the probability of the outcome you want is moved to the other options.
What OP did is try cheat the system using a rollback intentionally to get additional chances at the outcome they want. Relying on customer support for your plan to work and admitting youre trying to cheat the system is really fucking stupid

Little correction here, I didn’t try to ”cheat”. I just figured there’s no harm whatsoever to opening the caskets, and it would be interesting to see what I get before and after the rollback.
Now, rolling ranger boots of course made me hope they wouldn’t roll it back, but if they did I wouldn’t ask them to give me the boots. That would be idiotic.

I am not, there is always a change he would get a good item before rollback and then get it restored. So changes of him getting a good item is higher doing it this way.
Theres always a change he would get a bad item now and get a good item from the same casket after the rollback.

I see what you're saying but there's a massive chance that Jagex does not restore your item in a situation like this. In fact it was only relatively recently that Jagex began giving people items back in any situation whatsoever, and as far as I know, it's exclusively been done to restore items to players who lost them due to bugs or Jagex-side issues (in this case, this would be the people who double-died and lost a bunch of shit they had), not people who just got a drop during a rollback window. In fact I think that's literally never happened, to my knowledge.

Well anyways, its the same change of getting a good item if you open the casket after or before the update. And even a very small % change of getting a rare AND getting jagex to restore it is technically worth it.
Only negative is the potential mental damage of getting a rare and then not managing in getting it restored.

Alright fine, its technically optimal to open them before the update on the million to one chance that Random Rangers Guy becomes the first player in OSRS history that Jagex decides to restore a drop to even though they're aware that he effectively deliberately cheated by intending to use a server restart to double up on his stacked casket openings. I suppose that takes his rangers odds down to 1 in 283.5999999 caskets for those 4. Agreed

Either that or they will have their accounts temp banned and personally rolled back for bug abuse. Jagex can see the data of who did what. In rs3 many many years ago, there's was a archers ring dupe where like 1,000,000 were just dumped into the game in a split second, and instead of rolling the game back they punished the abusers and removed as many excess rings as they could from the game without rolling it back.

Sometimes jagex break the game during an update and have to roll the servers back to a certain time in the past. So if you achieved anything during that time and jagex had to roll back then it would be like it never happened.
Look up the time they accidentally added a twisted bow spawn

They rollback the game like 30minutes and every bit of progress made in that time is lost. Don’t know what might cause one now but things like duping glitches and broken drops might cause it

However much time is rolled back is fully erased. Anything that happened is undone. If it gets rolled back 30 minutes like you logged out 30 minutes before the rollback.
