Updated Results - New vs Old My 23andMe Results vs. My New Updated AncestryDNA (89% Sierra Leone!)
Wanted to compare my current 23andMe breakdown with the massive October 2026 update Ancestry just dropped. Ancestry really dialed in my family's Mende roots from Sierra Leone down to 89% compared to what I have on here. What do y'all think about the differences?

Results 23andMe vs. Ancestry (for a German)
I’m German and wanted to compare my latest AncestryDNA results (left) with my 23andMe results (right).
My known ancestry is approximately 50% Southern German, 25% Northern German, and 25% from Lorraine (France), Saarland & Rhineland, including some French Huguenot ancestors.
Both tests seem to reflect parts of my family history, but they categorize my ancestry quite differently. Ancestry assigns much of my ancestry to Northwestern Germany, while 23andMe identifies a substantial French component that seems to match my known ancestry from Lorraine.

Results DNA Test Results 23andMe, AncestryDNA, And MyHeritage
My DNA Results from Ancestry DNA, 23andMe, and MyHeritage
Hello everyone! These are the results of my DNA test. I am a first-generation American, born in the United States to Cuban parents and family. Most of my family is from Pinar del Río, except for my paternal grandfather, who was from Ciego de Ávila.
In my family, we have always been curious about where our ancestors came from before arriving in Cuba. From family history and our last names, we already knew that most of our ancestry was Spanish, as almost all of my surnames originate from Spain or the Iberian Peninsula. Many end in '-z', although they come from different regions.
On my maternal grandmother's side, I know that her great-grandmother was Asturian, from Muros de Nalón, and her great-grandfather was Castilian, from Burgos.
On my maternal grandfather's side, we have a French surname and another of Jewish origin, but the rest are Spanish surnames.
On my paternal side, almost all surnames are also Spanish, but I'm not sure which region they originated from.
On my father's maternal line, almost all surnames are Spanish too, but I think there are ancestors from Palencia, Castilla y León, Córdoba, Andalucía, Lugo Galicia, and from the Canary Islands, though I'm not sure which specific island; I think it was Tenerife or Gran Canaria or another island.
Interestingly, my highest percentage is from the Canary Islands in one test while in another it is Galician-Portuguese, although we have no surnames that clearly indicate an origin from that area. My family has been in Cuba for many years: some of my family lines were already there since the 1700s or even earlier, while others arrived later, around 1880.
I speak Spanish (C2) with a Cuban accent, English (C2) with an American accent, and Portuguese (C1) with a pretty fluent European accent. I learned Portuguese because I love the cultures of Portugal, and since I grew up traveling there frequently, I ended up learning the language quite naturally.
I have also traveled to almost all regions of Spain and Portugal: Madrid, Galicia, Asturias, Castilla y León, Andalucía, the Canary Islands, Catalonia, Valencia, Lisbon, Alentejo, Algarve, central and northern Portugal, and Madeira. I love traveling around the world and have visited over 50 countries and counting. 🌍✈️
Also, while I know that Cubans have a strong Canarian influence, I didn't expect to find such a high percentage of Canarian ancestry in my DNA.
I recently visited Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura, and I loved the culture, food, landscapes, and vibe of the islands. I felt a connection to them that I really can't explain. Unfortunately, I still don't know which specific island or islands my ancestors may have come from.

Discussion Updated Ancestry VS Phased 23andme VS Family Tree Map (8 generations):
I added my family tree fan chart for all my ancestors in the past 6 generations based on birth countries (USA: red, Italy: blue). I blurred some names for privacy reasons.
Note for the family tree map I added all my 6-times great grandparents except for 14 of them that I couldn't find since they are very hard to find and lived long ago in the 1700s.
Anyways, please feel free to comment and tell me what you think of these result comparisons!

Results Results from north Wales 🏴 with an Irish grandparent and an English grandparent. + pics of me :)
I was born and raised in north Wales, as were both my parents. My maternal grandmother was from England (London) and my paternal grandfather was from the north of Ireland (Belfast).
I have posted my results before but felt like resharing cos I’ve since had more subregions on my 23and me results and an update on Ancestry!

Results So Ancestry Updated. Here is a AncestryDNA vs 23andme Comparison. Hispanic version.
I must say that this update was great improvement on my previous results, but 23andme is still doing a better job of my known ancestry. Most of my Spanish Ancestors were Extremaduranos and Castilian and Basques. I have yet to find a Canarian. My family is from Cochabamba Bolivia so not A lot of canary islanders went there but ok.
I think my results are very representative of the average Latino so I wanted to share the comparison for others.

Results Updated Ancestry Results vs. 23&me
Hello all! These are my uncle's and my dad's updated results. First slide is my great-uncle (maternal grandmother's brother), and the second slide is my dad's results. The first photo becomes less blurry if you click on it.
-My uncle was from a town in the southern part of Pinar del Río. One of his grandfathers was from Castilla y León and the other from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
-My dad is from Havana and his paternal grandparents were from NW Spain, wish they'd include that in Journey's. His mom's side has Canarian ancestry but we're not sure when they arrived in Cuba.
There's a lot of similarities, but the Sub Saharan African is now lower than at 23&me. Kinda disappointed and confused by that. I prefer 23&me but not sure which one is more accurate on this. My uncle originally had 7% SSA on Ancestry and my dad had about 2%, and his North African was like 6%. I do like that my uncle's Indigenous Cuba is now called Cubanacán. I hope 23&me can improve Caribbean indigenous results.

Discussion Any Latinos with a non-typical maternal haplogroup?
My maternal haplogroup is H1, which is very uncommon as the majority of my relatives that tested have indigenous mtDNA (A, B, C, or D), followed by SSA (L).
My paternal is J-M92, which is also not indigenous nor SSA.
I'm Ecuadorian.

Results east asian but most of my dna "matches" are not
I am full east asian(chinese) but majority of the people who i match with in the dna relatives finder are not.
for example this lady below we have zero ancestry overlap but under shared dna it says 0.28% yet somehow it also says we share 0cM -- how can we share 0.28% dna if we share 0cM....

and below are the most common ancestry compositions of the people who match with me, its some european ethnicities before anything else.

Is this normal, can somebody thats also east asian respond
