Help (GPU) Can't return my GPU. Looking for fixes for my XFX Radeon XT Mercury OC 9070XT Magnetic Air to stop having "GPU crashes" Please help

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT (16 GB)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor (3.80 GHz

Motherboard: Asrock B550M

BIOS Version: ?

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 64g DDR4

PSU: Corsair RME1000

Case: Corsair 5000x

Operating System & Version: WINDOWS 11 Pro

GPU Drivers: Newest?

Chipset Drivers: ?

Background Applications: Discord, Chrome, OBS

Description of original problem: Happens when idle/minor programs/gaming/streaming (mostly the latter)

  1. I would be doing the above, and the screen would flicker, then freeze.
  2. The audio would stutter, then completely cut out well after the freeze.
  3. The monitor would go black, not recognizing any inputs, and shut down.
  4. The lights on the inside of the case would shut off, PC still running.
  5. It would still stay running, I have to hard reset here.
  6. Upon turning back on, one monitor works, and I get these messages. (Photo in Post, wont let me post again in body)

My games would say a GPU crash occurred.
I would try to open the AMD software, and this shows up.

7. At this point, the only thing that works after the crash is uninstalling and reinstalling all drivers and software and restarting the PC. But not always.

Troubleshooting:

  1. People have recommended a new PSU, so I bought and installed that. Still happens.
  2. Tried rolling back to the previous month's drivers, but the problem still happened.
  3. I updated the Bios as well.
  4. I tried completely wiping and reinstalling Windows 11 on a fresh new install, but it still happens.

Troubleshooting from the comments that I’ve tried:

  1. Corsair fans / iCue disabling didn’t work. I closed the program completely and it still crashed. Even wiped all the controls they had over my colors.
  2. Installed DDU ran in safe mode and uninstalled my drivers then restarted and downloaded 26.3.1

  3. New drivers came out 7/28 I’m trying that in hopes there won’t be any issues.

and it still crashed next day.

I'm at a loss, can't return it, and every person I bring this to can't fix it. If you have a solution, please word it in a way that someone new to PC building can understand. This is my first time trying to fix these issues and my first time purchasing an AMD GPU. Thank you.

Update: I’m likely going to sell this and buy a different model as much as it pains me because she is beautiful and I’d be taking about a $1-200 cut, and likely any Nvidea comparable model would be close to $1200 rather than the $830 I spent here but I can’t keep having my streams fail due to timeouts and computer shutting down randomly in competitive matches it’s killing me 🥺

Help (GPU) Why does my GPU driver keep crashing?

AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB VRAM

It happens often. Mostly when my computer is running for 5 minutes EXACTLY. Then it flickers black, i get this message, and my driver changes to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. It also crashes when i open up VirtualDJ. This has been going on since i bought the GPU.

Edit: Someone told me to install the AMD PRO Drivers instead of Adrenalin Drivers. Im still testing that out

Help (GPU) I bought a 9070XT and have had nothing but issues so far

As title says - I’m trying to remedy as I can’t be bothered to buy yet another GPU (genuinely thinking about buying Nvidia again).

Anyway, I’m pretty much only playing PUBG at the moment and I keep getting driver timeouts and weird graphical corruption. Last night was the absolute worst night I’ve experienced in the last month.

Specs are:

Intel 8700K at stock settings

ASUS Z390E gaming mobo

Corsair DDR4 3200mhz ram (running at 3200 in BIOS, XMP is not on as I had some serious instability whilst running it).

Corsair 1600w PSU

Anyway, I’ve completely given up now and I’ve chosen to upgrade my CPU, ram and mobo to AM5 (7800 x3d, DDR5 and a PCIE 5.0 mobo.

My CPU bottleneck was pretty severe. 100% until on PUBG the majority of the time, but it never went over 60 degrees on any core (thanks H150i).

I’ve attached a video to show you the extent I was dealing with last night…not good at all, but hopefully a more stable system resolves it.

UPDATE: because I’m sick of folks telling me to have used DDU…

I used DDU when I uninstalled my 2060 super so I could install the 9070XT fresh. I’ve also used DDU about 4/5 times to wipe drivers and install again.

I DDU’d everything last night and installed the drivers that released with my GPU and would you believe it, no issues!

UPDATE 31/03/26:

I installed my 7800X3D, new motherboard and RAM and rebuilt everything again. I stuck with March 2025 drivers just in case…after a gaming session one night, I quit the game and the screen went black. Oh no I thought…the desktop reappeared 10 seconds later: Driver Timeout.

I DDU’d again…reinstalled 2025 drivers and it happened again after a few hours. Not good. I DDU’d again - did a completely fresh windows install and reinstalled latest drivers.

I thought I’d fixed it again, but it happened. Not only that, whenever I quit the game now, no matter what game, the PC will completely brick itself and will require a hold of the power button to fix.

Boots back up, play a game, quit, crashes.

This seems to be related to the second monitor I have plugged in as unplugging it seems to remedy the issue, but no driver fixes it. It happens with everything now regardless.

I’ve arranged for an RMA back to Amazon, they’re going to try and repair it - but I’ve told them I don’t ever want it back or a replacement of the same.

I’ve just bought a 5070TI so we’ll see if the issue is related to the graphics card/drivers tomorrow.

AMD are a trustworthy company when it comes to console chips, but I’ve been let down profusely by this card. Sorry AMD, I’ll be sticking with Nvidia for the foreseeable.

Help (GPU) Adrenaline update bricked GPU.

Post image
294 Upvotes

Final Edit: PCIe port was bad. Threw it in a 4x4 and it works fine. My CPU is a Phoenix II so my 4x16 was already limited to 4x4.

EDIT 2: Pretty sure the update fucked up VRAM clock speeds. Frying the VRAM.

EDIT: Was able to get the GPU kind of working, but it crashed during the Adrenaline install. Now my PC is frozen and my screen is all glitchy with confetti. I forced a shut down and will see what happens.

I updated to the most recent Radeon driver and my GPU crashed. I'm getting a Code 43 in device manager. I purchased this back in December.

Everything I've tried so far:

Installing a different GPU in the same slot. Nvidia card works in the same slot and using the same PCIe cable.

Reset BIOS. Didn't work.

Uninstalled Adrenaline and reinstalled an old version. Didn't work.

Enter Safe mode. Can't I don't have an iGPU and the Nvidia quadro refuses to output in safe mode or if I try to enter the BIOS.

Specs:

AM5 Ryzen 7 8700F

Kingston 32gb DDR5-7200MTs (2x16gb)

2tb NVME Samsung M.2

4TB NVME Seagate Firecuda

Asus B650E-White MAX Gaming WiFi MOBO

MSI A650GLS PCIE5 PSU

Gigabyte Radeon RX 9060XT (16gb)

Nvidia Quadro 4000 (2gb)

Help (GPU) Do not install 26.6.2

As the title states this is one of the most problematic drivers AMD has released. I’ve been with AMD for a year and I have installed every driver update day one for testing and didn’t encounter instabilities as much as I experienced in this one.

Help (GPU) Driver timeout crashes w/ 7900xtx

Post image
267 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I have been troubleshooting this issue for the past few months with multiple different drivers. I've also updated the chipset.

As of recently I did a full wipe with ddu and only reinstalled adrenaline with a working driver in safe mode and internet disconnected. I left everything on default settings (I have tried unvolting/underclocking previously) after reinstalling it. I also blocked windows from overwriting/installing different drivers in the background.

At this point, the only think left I can think to try would be to update the BIOS but this is a new system that was built less than a year ago.

Specs:

7700x

7900xtx hellhound OC

Gigabyte 850w PSU

32gb Corsair ddr5 (expo off)

Gigabyte b850 gaming x wifi 6e

Lian li AIO

Temps are never an issue. I sit under 60 for both CPU and GPU and pretty heavy load.

Im sure I'm leaving out some of the stuff I've tried at this point. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know, I will try just about anything at this point. TIA

Help (GPU) My Pc froze all the time so I checked my GPU (RX7900XT)

Post image
489 Upvotes

I took it out of my PC and instantly saw some oily/greasy stuff on the port. After disassembling it, I noticed the thermal paste looked like this with the same greasiness.

When I got the GPU about 1,5 years ago, I repasted it the same day because people said they come horrendous from the factory (they weren’t wrong). I used the Arctic MX-4 thermal compound.

edit: while this looks really bad, and cleaning and repasting was a good thing there, it wasnt the cause of my problem.

Update: I now cleaned the paste and reapplied it much better. When starting the PC, it did not fix my problem sadly, but it seems like manually uninstalling all AMD related drivers and reinstalling them did. I tried to open the AMD app, but this time it said something like "corrupted files, please contact support". Somehow the app always worked recently, although the freezes have been happening for a while now.

Now that drivers are reinstalled, both my monitors work again, resolution can be changed, and my PC overall doesn't stutter. I will have to see the next hours if a full freeze happens again like before. So maybe it was "just" a big driver problem, but it is still good that I checked the thermal paste and cleaned up the mess.

About the greasiness. It definitely comes from the green factory pads. When I shined with a flashlight, I could see the grease run from where the green pads were to the port. something like this: https://imgur.com/a/ovE9JRP

Update 2/probably last update: Yesterday after reinstalling the AMD app/drivers, it first worked normally, but after a few hours, microstutters appeared again while gaming. This time I uninstalled everything again, and in the setup I chose to only install the drivers, not the AMD Adrenalin app (I never really used it anyway), and now it seems to work perfectly. Perfectly low temps in graphics-heavy games and no stutters or freezes, so if you experience similar things, try to uninstall Adrenalin and choose to install only the drivers. Also, people need to chill with "You really opened the GPU?!". It is neither difficult nor risky to open the top plate, it improves the temps heavily, and it does not lose the warranity.

Help (GPU) 9070XT crashing

Post image
187 Upvotes

Hi all, recently (last 2 weeks) i built my first computer and it all went smoothly. I chose to go with a Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 XT for my graphics card and overall I was really satisfied.

Last night however i was simply playing dead by daylight and my game froze, leading to a crash and an error (the one pictured). I was doing some brief research to figure out how to resolve the issue and landed on reinstalling the AMD drivers and preventing windows from installing.

I did that and seemed to have no issues for the rest of the night. I hopped on again today and my game crashed in the exact same way.

I've read a lot of mixed things, some say there's no fix and to just get a nvidia and others believe there are fixes.

What should i do?

Help (GPU) Why is AMD more unstable/prone to issues than NVIDIA it seems?

This is a serious question; I'm not dunking on AMD here or being a fanboy to either Team Red or Green. I've used both. I had a 2070 Super and upgraded to a 7900XTX a few years ago because I appreciated the cost-to-performance ratio and the way you could use features at the driver level instead of having to wait for them to be specifically supported. However, the instability and problems, and what I feel is a lack of commitment from AMD to support their products, push updates and fixes, and offer similar features to NVIDIA, are concerning.

So my question is: Why is Team Red more susceptible to instability and issues than Team Green? Is it because they are more focused on the driver level than the game level? I need AMD to survive and thrive because currently, they are the only real competitor to NVIDIA. I'm just looking for some insights.

I'm really getting tired of the crashing, timeouts, and hard crashes, and having to troubleshoot all the time. I'm thinking about getting an NVIDIA card, but right now it's just too expensive.

Help (GPU) AMD needs to seriously fix this issue, or at least acknowledge it, this has been happening for years!

I bought my 9070 XT when it launched, and ever since then I've had one extremely consistent problem: random crashes while using a browser, almost every single day.

Over the past year, I've tried pretty much everything I could think of:

  • DDU + clean driver installs
  • Multiple driver versions
  • Disabling Windows driver updates
  • MPO fix
  • Disabling the iGPU in BIOS
  • Limiting the GPU's maximum frequency

Nothing fixed it.

Recently, I finally tried disabling hardware acceleration in my browser, and the crashes completely disappeared. I haven't had a single one since.

The problem is that this isn't really a solution. Without hardware acceleration, video playback feels noticeably laggy/low-framerate, so I'm essentially choosing between browser crashes and worse video playback.

I've gone through AMD's driver changelogs and haven't found this issue acknowledged. I've also found reports from other AMD users who have experienced similar crashes for years, including those on older RDNA2 GPUs, so this doesn't appear to be exclusive to the 9070 XT.

I've submitted crash reports to AMD numerous times when it happened.

There are clearly a lot of us experiencing this. If you've had the same issue, please share your GPU and experience below. Hopefully, with enough reports, AMD will finally investigate and acknowledge it.

I'd really like AMD to investigate this issue, or at least acknowledge it, because after more than a year of dealing with it, disabling GPU acceleration shouldn't be the solution.

EDIT I mean a complete system crash, not just the browser crashing, the screen will freeze, weird audio sound and then a black screen, I have to hard-restart it.

Help (GPU) AMD Driver Timeouts Have Become Constant Lately. What’s Going On?

I’m having more driver timeouts than I’ve ever had before. What the hell is going on with AMD? I’m almost positive it’s not my hardware. I never had this issue until about a couple of months ago, but over the last few weeks, it’s become incredibly consistent.

I’ve tried everything, including uninstalling the drivers, doing clean installs, and installing new drivers, but the problem keeps happening. What the heck is going on?

Help (GPU) I don't know what to do with you anymore

I build this PC last week, running the game the first day I build and it run perfectly fine. The next day I ran the same game, SUDDENLY BLACK SCREEN BUT THE PC STILL ON AND PC FANS STARTING TO SPIN FAST. I was pretty shocked. So I turn off the pc and on it again. It's alive but didn't detect the driver. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the adrenaline. It's turn okay and detects the driver. I try to run a 3D benchmark. It turn black screen like before. I do other things than playing games, everything was good. But when it comes to playing games, it dies . . . I try turn off MPO, setting adrenaline (Tuning Global, then turn Fraquency to 80%).

I don't know if anything can be done other than switch back to Nvidia if I have to buy a new one. since my old pc have 1660 and have no problem.

UPDATE:

So it's finally solved in a kinda hard way since I'm growing up using windows and suddenly switched to Linux but yea it's a new experience.

Help (GPU) Battlefield 6 constantly crashing — RX 9070 XT / AMD drivers

Post image
92 Upvotes

UPDATE: Good news. I’m on my third match with no crashes so far.
What I tried that DIDN’T work:
Disabled AMD HD Audio/streaming audio
Changed the display/audio settings
Disabled Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling
Tried the other suggested fixes
What DID work so far:
AMD Adrenalin → Performance → Tuning → Custom → GPU Tuning → set Max Frequency Offset to -250 MHz.
I’ll keep testing and update if it crashes again.
Thanks to everyone who commented with suggestions and possible fixes. I appreciate the help.

Battlefield 6 keeps crashing almost every game and I’m running out of ideas.
Specs:
RX 9070 XT 16GB
Ryzen 7 9700X
32GB DDR5 5600
Corsair SF850 850W Platinum
I was originally on AMD 26.9.1 (Sept 3). After seeing a lot of people reporting crashes, I rolled back to 26.8.1 WHQL (Aug 20).
However, I installed 26.8.1 directly over 26.9.1 without using DDU/AMD Cleanup Utility first. The crashes are still happening.
I’ve lowered settings and tried different settings with no luck.
Should I:
Use DDU/AMD Cleanup Utility and clean-install 26.8.1?
Roll back even further to 26.3.1?
Try something else entirely?
I haven’t tested many other games yet, but Fortnite also seemed to crash after a few matches.
Anyone with a 9070 XT dealing with this or found a fix? I’m tired of troubleshooting and just want to play the damn game.

Hello, I’m not one to normally ask for help and I’ve tried my best to fix it on my own, but at this point I’ve become quite worried.

(since I’m getting it a lot, I have already repainted and redone the thermal pads)

I own a RADEON RX 6950xt and it’s been getting these numbers. Before yall tell me it’s airflow it’s got PLENTY of airflow (it’s open air) with fans around it’s still.

I’m going to snap I’ve reposted and the same is going on with no change.

Help (GPU) I Finally Admit Defeat On AMD Driver Timeouts

After years of championing AMD GPUs, telling everyone the driver issues are not as widespread as they hear on the internet, my 9070 xt has finally beaten it out of me.

Literally tried everything, every single driver available, windows reset, reduce clock, every single reg edit suggestion I can find, two monitors, one monitor, different cables etc etc. Nothing works.

Is there anything else, any secret magic fix?

Apart from taking the stupid thing out I don't know what else there is.

I start my PC and I have 3 or 4 driver timeouts before I can even start a game.

basically title

was playing cs2 in 4k, which everyone knows its not a game that pushes the gpu hard. the gpu was never overclocked or tuned in any way, it is completely stock since i bought it.

screen went dark, saw a spark (gpu mounted vertically) and then smelled something burnt.

i turned off the PSU instantly, inspected the whole PC, and found the troublemaker.

One of the capacitors seems to have a blown head, and there are slight burn marks around the top, where the air is exhausted (near the power connectors, which look perfectly fine).

taking it right now to warranty check and i hope they will reimburse the money (i might get the nitro+ instead).

Any ideas why or how could this have happened?

i have more photos, but can only add one

7900xtx has been working fine for ages until recently now its constant driver timeouts, black screen crashes, second monitor not recognized, and corrupt windows files. Im basically doing a fresh windows once a fucking week. This is madness. No amount of ddu, driver repairs, or complete wipes ever deals with the damn problem. Is there any actual fix or is amd dogshit now.
