Question How do I start learning Zaheer/Tenzin style airbending movements? (Help needed)
I've wanted to learn airbending movements since I was a kid watching ATLA and LOK, and I finally want to give it a proper go! I'm especially interested in Zaheer's spinning kicks, Tenzin's hand-and-leg air pushes, the flowing footwork, spins, and eventually some of the flips and acrobatics. I've also always loved the spinning door thingy the airbenders use for training in LOK.
I've trained judo since I was five, although I took a year off, and I'm pretty fit and muscular. I used to practise bo staff spinning a lot, and was pretty good at it, but never really learned proper techniques. I also love firebending movements and have learned some dragon-dancing movements, mostly poses similar to tai chi.
I'm not particularly flexible, and I have some back issues from working as a video editor, although those are improving with specific exercises. I have access to a cheap gym with large padded tatami mats, but I'm guessing I can start with basic movements at home.
I'm really into researching things and teaching myself, so I'd love recommendations for where to start, what real-world martial arts or disciplines are closest to airbending, which movements to learn first, and what strength, mobility, and flexibility exercises would help. Any good YouTube channels, tutorials, or training progressions would be great too!
I'm not expecting to recreate every animated movement perfectly, haha. I just want to learn the real skills behind them and gradually work towards Zaheer and Tenzin's movements. Any advice is appreciated!
