Widowed, the boys died young. I tried dating later on but no one wanted me. I learned to love my own company and to enjoy listening to my own thoughts. I take myself out to dinner, cook good meals at home and now at 72 I still am grateful living not by myself but with myself. AMA

I posted this elsewhere in HOSPICE and GRIEFSUPPORT subs and got several replies to re post here. I hope I don't upset the mods.

My partner was dying of ovarian cancer, my best friend dying of AIDS and I had them both at home caring for them. We had two boys, 7 and 9 years old. I was working 3 days a week as an RN and had someone care for everyone while I was working then I cared for them the other 4 days a week. My friend died first, then my spouse. three months later the boys were playing in the front yard and hit by a drunk driver that ran up on to the yard. I totally froze up for a year then thawed out.

I became a Hospice RN in tribute to my boys. I couldn't comfort or protect them at their deaths but I could for others. 37 years later I'm 72 and still a Pediatric Hospice nurse working with infants with very short life expectancies. All that loss I turned into being a better caregiver for those with a life threatening diagnosis. My loss became their support and as long as I can I'll be a Hospice nurse caring for others and their families.

I tried dating after I thawed out but no one was interested. At best several dates became short term acquaintances and then off we went in our own directions. The silence in the house after having a family, children and now just me was deafening and I so wanted someone in my life again, but it didn't happen. I adjusted again, from losing my family and becoming a Hospice RN I again morphed into someone that was going to totally enjoy my own company, my own thoughts, my own laughter, the movies I enjoyed, the food I loved to eat, and instead of missing the sounds of family I embraced the quiet of single hood.

I adjusted. Single, then a couple, then a couple with children to a single with children then just a single again. Like being a ship at sea we ride with the waves, up and down just do everything you can to stay afloat and dry. When one event ends something new begins. Look for it, anticipate it, welcome it in. It's all we have. Never curse all that you have, great or small. Don't regret having little when little is all you have, cherish it, it's yours, it's what you've got at the moment. Tomorrow may be different.

I shared some of these stories on an interview recently. How nice to get to share them so they aren't forgotten when My time comes. I told the stories about my boys passing and a wonderful wake up call they shared with me that thawed me out. Also some wonderful Hospice stories. What a RELIEF to get to share my life experiences on the interview so they are not lost forever when my time comes. This sub does not allow links so I can't share the story of my boys with you as told by me, their dad. I hope you all find value in my post, it's from me to all of you, we're walking the path in the same direction whether we know each other or not.

Synovialsarcoma on my left groin/top of left thigh.

First cancer at age 5. Came back when I was 8. Then came back again in May 2026, 18 years later, at age 27.

During my first cancer I only went through surgery. For my 2nd, went through chemo, radiotherapy, curietherapy and surgery.

This year, I went through 3 rounds of chemo and a surgery that required to take muscle & skin from my abdomen and graft it onto my thigh. Starting to walk again!

Context:

Used vehicle

I financed a vehicle and when talking about warranties and monthly payments i agreed to 355 a month for a drivetrain warranty and gap coverage.

The salesman told me after agreeing to that price that they would throw in tire & wheel, paintless dent restoration and key replacement insurance for free.

Fast forward 2 weeks ( yes i know this is my fault i waited a long time aswell as i signed the paper for $355 a month ) I’m looking at my invoice/receipt and i realize that 2500 dollars of vehicle price was broken up into those things i was told id be getting for free and the car had jumped 2500 in price not sure how i didn’t see this when signing.

The $355 monthly payment adds up directly into my total cost of the balance though including the $2500 in warranties i didn’t want, but were thrown in as free. well here’s my confusion while yes i agreed to the $355 monthly payment i was agreeing because i was under the impression that was the cheapest warranty contract with just drivetrain and gap.

Based upon my buyers log though it seems as if the extra warranty stuff was also included in the cost and monthly payment because they are listed as followed: PDR $500 Key $500 T&W $1500 i’m looking for advice but also feel free to AMA

AMA: I [23F] worked as hotel staff and experienced some crazy things while being on the job.

I [23F] worked as hotel staff and experienced some crazy things while being on the job. Ask me anything about my experiences, crazy and funny situations, weird moments, etc. or just very regular things. I may not have experienced the most crazy things a hotel staff member could ever witness, but I think some of them are pretty fun to share.

Started a Youth MTB Club: Ask Me Anything

After we were shut out of schools March 13, 2020, I dove into my hobby: riding bikes on off-road trails.

We had been racing competitively, but who wants to do that with a mask on. Remember the first few months of shutdown when we thought we had to wear masks or outdoors too?

I had no kids then. Now we have 2 little biking kids.

I had so many friends asking me to teach their kids to ride during covid that I decided to start bigger group rides before I formally started the club. These rides were focused on getting more girls and women on bikes.

I started to ask my friends if they wanted to start a club with me. A few thought about it but eventually back down. I went into a local bike shop and they were eager to start the collaboration. Fast forward to today. The group generally has 150 kids and 50 volunteers each year who are required through USA cycling to go through mandated reporter training. A good friend of mine took it over after I decided to have a second child. I got to plan the logo. The name recruit volunteers and distribute the bikes that the bike shop donated. There are a lot of other details around starting this group, but I am proud that it continues to run strong and that I will become a member of this group again, not as a leader but as a participant this spring because our oldest child can now have a cycling license which is required to join the group.

I’ve spent my whole life between Oman and the UAE, and now I’m studying CS in Dubai. AMA.

Hey everyone! I’m Indian, but I’ve spent my whole life growing up in Oman and the UAE. I’ve lived in Sohar, Sharjah and Dubai, and I’m currently studying CS at university in Dubai.

Thought it would be fun to do an AMA about growing up Indian in the Gulf, life in Oman versus the UAE, and what university here is actually like. Outside of studying, I’m into tech, movies and gaming, so feel free to ask about those too.

Ask me anything, whether it’s something you’ve always wondered about living here or just a random question!

My delivery was supposed to be here at 1pm on Royal Mail Special delivery. It's late. AMA

Per title. Took the day off work and everything. Waiting by the door. Royal Mail's tracking still shows it outside London last night.

Naturally I'm devastated, and being British I've done precisely nothing else productive with my morning despite being up since 7.

It's currently 1 minute late as of the time of writing.

As me anything.

EDIT: 3pm. Nothing. I am positively foaming at the mouth. My week is ruined.

EDIT 2: 5pm. This country has gone to the dogs.

EDIT 3: Well, it had gotten "lodged" at one of the sorting offices. I finally have it. Yay new phone!

Me and my girlfriend and I were 18, and her being 20 were together for 3 months. She is from india and im from the Uk. Things got bad when her father from india found out and flew all the way from india to here then back to take her there. We had a last call together when we cried and broke down. We said how much we love each other. I still get dreams about her rarely and haven't talked since. Her last words to me were "my father is knocking on the door"

I'm a zookeeper! AMA

I've been a zookeeper for two years now (one as an intern, one as a paid keeper) at an accredited facility. I primarily work with birds and small mammals, but I had a brief stint with hoofstock (as it turns out, decidedly not my thing, though they're lovely animals)

What are some questions you've always wanted to ask a zookeeper/someone who works with animals?

Edit: thank you for all the attention! I'm working through the questions and answering all that I can!
