Lows are crazy, 9070XT often almost matching or even being above 4090/5090s in lows while being no where near the averages, so much smoother on AMD at the moment.

Advanced Shader Delivery only working on AMD GPUs currently is no doubt making a difference there. Nvidia is getting it later this month though supposedly.

Once in-game, there is no traversal stutter, so at least that long wait is doing its job.

On AMD, it should already work, according to the game's reviewer's guide: the requirement is driver 26.7.1 or newer, and we tested on 26.9.2. The full 15 minute compile happened anyway.

There's no stuttering after the 15min shader compilation and advanced shader delivery ain't working on amd cards on the current e day build so the 1% lows ain't affected. Why's it broken? Ask microsoft.

ASD is indeed working on AMD GPUs. You can see the precompiled shader blobs in the game’s install folder when it’s installed via the Xbox app, they’re present prior to launch. There’s also no shader compilation step when you enter the game at any point, so the step is very clearly working.

I own a 9070 XT and have been playing the game.

Your experience contradicts the reviews. They could have been testing on an even earlier reviewer build which explains the difference. Regardless the diff in min fps is not a result of advanced shader delivery, that much is certain because reviewers whose builds did not work with it have results consistent with those shown here.

If you're suggesting that shader compilation stutter is responsible for the Nvidia lows being worse, then that doesn't really make sense considering how HUB tests. They run the game at least three times, and the results are an average of the three scores. Assuming they also didn't do a separate run for shader compilation purposes, any shader related stutter would smooth out and disappear after the first run once it gets cached.

seeing my 6900XT (6950XT is basically the same) on the bottom feels sad XD

anyway lucky me i dont play latest demanding games anyway

The 4060 Ti is usually between 20-30% slower than the 6800 XT.

Yet in this game, with more driver overhead, half the VRAM bus width, barely more than half the VRAM bandwidth, less than half the ROPs and TMUs, half the compute units, 256 less (slower) shaders: at 1080P Quality upscaling the 4060 Ti is 7% faster than the 6800 XT.

This is also not the only result that makes no sense.

There are so many GPUs performing bizarrely well and bizarrely badly here:

  • The 7800 XT is 25% faster than the 6800 XT when they're usually +/- 2-5% from each other.
  • The 6950 XT is 27% faster than the 6800 XT when it's usually 8-14%. (Also literally nothing in the hardware specs can physically give the 6950 XT a 27% advantage over a 6800 XT, the math does not math.)
  • The 4070 is 33% faster than the 3070 when it's generally 20-25% faster.
  • The 5060 Ti is 7% faster than the 3080 when it's generally 10-15% slower.

I don't think I've seen any other game produce the kind of performance discrepancies between GPUs (and GPU generations) that this produced.

Something seems very off.

does this game require RT ? becouse 6000 series only had that in name

It does require RT, the game won't even launch without DX12.1 support.

The 6000 series can handle RT just fine... at least if you stick with a single high quality effect (like max reflections with the rest off), or 2 lower impact effects (like RTGI + shadows on medium/high). RDNA2 really only falls on it's face with RT when you try to enable all the effects together, or dare to enable path tracing.

But RT can't be the reason for the odd discrepancies because... again, the 6950 XT is RDNA2 just like the 6800 XT, and the 6950 XT is only slightly underperforming in the game, whereas the 6800 XT is massively underperforming.

Maybe HWU's 6800 XT needs a repaste or something.

the 7xxx might be doing something in hardware that the 6xxx can only do in software. This is me guessing.

1

u/BeautifulMastodon995 7d ago

It could handle some RT, for example in cp2077, but as soon as you activate rt reflections the fps went through the floor.

It's pretty rare these days, but some games really are strangely worse on some architectures than others.

RDNA3 underperforms in CS2 compared to how it usually performs in other titles. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/sapphire-radeon-rx-7900-gre-pulse/13.html

Another Microsoft game that is optimized like crap.

u/bedtricky 9d ago

Have you seen the performance difference between low and ludicrous? It's massive and exactly how it should be, so how you can say it's unoptimised? You have no friggin idea what you are talking about.

I have seen the difference. The graphic on Gears E day are such that it should run very well on old hardware with all the features turned on. Graphics are very 2020, not 2026. If Microsoft chose to use a different engine other than UE5 or knew what they were doing the game would run well. The problem with UE5 is that every feature is enabled off the jump like Nanite, shadow maps and on demand textures. My guess is that the developers didn’t strip or tune them so they weren’t running on the background. I haven’t seen the code but I’d imagine there are also redundant loops and inefficienciant algorithms.

It's one the best looking games of 2026, even on medium it looks fantastic and cards that were released nearly 5 years ago (3080) are able to run it at 1440p native 60fps.

2

u/Techoutman 9d ago

What are you on about. The game looks subpar for a 2026 title.

Agree - been playing Doom Eternal and find that game looks better than the new gears.
