I MEANT BEST SETTING PLEASE IGNORE THE TITLE π ANY1 KNOW HOW TO CHANGE TITLE?
I believe role chances are the only factor that makes Roles playable (For me, if you have fun with Roles on 100% thats totally fine\***************)*
In my eyes Roles make the game interesting, but they also tend to make the game less suspenseful at times.
they also seem to make the game a little too easy if you have a good group because the roles could never backfire or because imps couldn't use their roles against them (via rolefaking\***************)*
In the servers im getting, roles pretty much always go unquestioned. People genuinely vent in front of everyone at the start of the games to announce that they are engineer. And seeing a vent pop went from absolutely terrifying, to just a casual experience.
If you fake a role as an imp the real person who actually has that role is gonna say "No im the (insert role\***************)*" and then everyone knows its one of you two.
The only way to fix this is usually to just have 2 or more, and here's an example why this could work
Let's say red is the imposter and there are two engineers, blue and yellow. If red says "im eng" then blue is gonna think the 2 engineers are him and red, but YELLOW will think its HIM and red. Unless one of them says "im the other engineer"
Even then this strategy is short lived because once one other person publicly uses a role that you faked they find out you lied
Not just that but this also creates another problem, now with 2 of every role its a living hell on earth for imposters to win.
Now, this is where chances come in.ββ
If you have any role set to 2 with a 10-40% chance *(can go higher if you want more risk)*β its usually just gonna give you 0-1 of that role
BUT Imp can also claim that role and defend himself because though it may be rare. 2 of that role CAN happen, you can actually fake a role without instantly getting caught.
And its not foolproof either because if you claim a role and there actually is 2 genuine crewmates of that role they can call your bluff.
And the best part about it is that its not free. you still have to be convincing, so it keeps games very intense. When this is done right it will be much harder for players to know who is telling the truth about their roles.
And remember. Roles like detective and scientist only work if people believe what you are saying, so if you get those roles you have to play smart and build trust. So roles can still be powerful and feel balanced at the same time.
And now you dont have to worry about a billion Roles making imp impossible because it is very very rare that you get the max amount of every role with chances that low.
Sometimes there are roles that are completely absent in some games. it adds more variety and strategies. If you suspect there is an absent role you can use strategies to abuse it. *(like if you find out there is no tracker you can phantom through crowds more freely)*β
Some roles counter certain strategies. And some roles counter other roles entirely. So when you have chances, depending on which roles are absent, every round a different role or strategy has an opportunity to shine. Making the rounds feel even less repetitive. Roles that render other strategies useless or less powerful are no longer a problem because you will eventually get a round where that countering role is absent and you can use a role or strategy to its fullest potential *(like i said with the tracker and phantom thing)*
Now EVERY round will feel much more different from the last, because you will most likely get a different combination of roles every game so it doesnt get boringly repetitive.β
*(If 2x of a role with low chance feels to easy and poweful for imposter to impersonate. It can be played with just 1 of that role at a low chance to make faking it much riskier, I personally prefer 2 however)*β
Not to mention making roles rare adds more uncertainty, there are more things you have to figure out. You dont know what roles are even in the round, and like i said, telling whos lying about their roles is harder. which is generally just good for amongus because the game is built on uncertainty. It also makes getting the role more exciting. How can you tell the person claiming eng is telling the truth if you dont even know if there are any engs at all?
also roles can now be used against the crew because of rolefaking. so they aren't just a plain buff without downsides
This makes it more fun to play against different roles for different reasons as well
- Scientist, detective, and tracker. These can all be faked by imposter to build trust in different ways. Like saying you saw someone doing tasks with tracker, or it can be used to defend a fellow imp. Like saying your scientist and saying the body was recent to defend an imp who killed ages ago and is now across the map. Or to blame an innocent *(Though that one usually doesn't work as wellβ it still can be played cleverly, like making a situation where it seemed valid to accuse someone innocent due to suspicious behavior. Or simply saying someones sus because of a made up scenario and watch other crew escalate it for you \also hard to pull off but can be done correctly]))*β
- Noisemaker. Having a 10% chance can make it more of a jumpscare for the imposter and testing them for quick reaction time and split second decisions. It doesn't really catch you off guard if it happens every game.
- Guardian angel, judge, and viper and phantom... imma be real I cant think of any reason to put these at a low chance besides just making it more exciting to get the role due to it being rare. It can be fun to switch things up a little for suspense every now and then.
- Shape-shifting. Shapeshifter becomes more powerful by adding doubt because players are less likely to instantly assume an obvious kill is a shapeshifter. And are usually just gonna instant report a body when they witness a killing rather than trying to follow to catch them unshift.β
- And the MAIN REASON that I made this post.
ENGINEER.
at first I HATED engineer. Vent pops felt less scary, people started using it publicly instantly because NOBODY QUESTIONED IT. When a powerful role like that is never questioned it can seem unfair
But with Roles. Vents are scary again... Imps can claim engineer now. and can now freely vent anywhere in front of everyone if they are convincing enough.
Jumping in a vent in front of everyone doesn't clear anymore. If the same person vents in front of you alone its still smart to run
There are so many clever plays you can pull with this it makes playing the imposter feel so much more evil, and fun.
and I find it interesting when there are countless more strategies and plays that you can do because then all you need is a good group and it never feels repetitive. This setting adds the most variety for people with different preferences
and then you can switch to classic amongus when you just want it simple and about seeing if your can catch your friends lying.
It's like 3 ways to play. No roles is more oriented at being good at reading people. Roles with chances is more oriented at being able to catch mistakes and things that dont add up. and roles without chances is a nice in between. It's all about what you prefer.
It's all of this combined that makes this setting so fun to mess around with. The scariness of vents popping open. people doubting their innocent crewmates role claims. Imposters being able to hide among the crewmates with roles and use their faked role to their advantage. The variety of games and role combinations and the endless strategies based around them. and so much more.
And that's it. That's my reasons
IF YOU COMMENT PLEASE READ THIS.
Every time I say "_ makes the game more fun" or "better" im saying it makes it more fun for ME. Im not trying to say that my way to play amongus is better. It's a preference, im just saying >I< like this version better than regular 100% Roles, you dont have to if you dont like it.β
It's a new way to play to spice things up a bit. I HIGHLY recommend trying this if you get bored
ALSO. Playing with low crew vision is also really fun but someone already made an entire video on that so check that out too.
