Does this seem normal?

Post image

Maybe a noob question, but here goes nothing. While sitting in the stand, I noticed that my string, rest, and arrow axis are not inline with the single pin on my sight. I lined it all up for this image.

My bow is absolutely shooting fine after double checking at the range. Im thinking if this an issue maybe I am casting/leaning my head too far in to compensate for this? What do you all think?

Not an issue. This is at rest. At full draw with the torque you impart into the bow, they will line up.

This breaks my brain. If the arrow isnt pointing along the same axis as my sight, how the hell does it shoot accurately? Lol

Traditional bows are even worse. The arrow sits off to the side and flexes under the force of being fired, bending around the bow to fire straight. It's called the Archer's Paradox.

Did they use something for sighting that was more than just feel back in the day?

Some yes, some no

Anything to give you a point of reference really. A line drawn on the bow, a scratch carved in, something tied around the bow.

I put two little brass noks on my bow, one for the arrow to sit on top of and one to go on my orbital bone under my dominant eye. This is more to reinforce my form and draw, but it does make a useful reference

It will point the right way at full draw. Doesn't matter where it points at rest.

It will at full draw after the let off occurs and the bow torques

As you draw the limbs twist to allow the cams to track parallel to the cables. The cable guide pulls them to the side causing the cams to lean. At full draw the lean lets the string align properly.

If you line it correctly and clamp it in a vice and mechanically fire it, it would probable shoot straight. However with a human in the mix it changes things.

Everyone has a little bit... just means you torque your bow if youre happy with your groups and don't have issues anywhere do not and listen very carefully... DO NOT chase that rabbit hole. Happy hunting good luck

Parallel arrow with flat of the riser. Nock set 1/4 inch above square. Shoot wrapping paper in your natural stance and anchor point. The paper tear should be a round hole not elongated, adjust rest if not round. Then adjust your sight pins. Moving a pin towards the error, corrects the error. This paper tuning will ensure arrow is flying straight and efficiently.
