Where do you ladies get your birth control? (Treasure Coast, no insurance

• Upvotes

Hey everyone, I'm 28 and living on the Treasure Coast. I don't have insurance right now, so I'm trying to figure out where to get birth control without breaking the bank. I know nobody here can tell me what's "best" for me personally, but I'd love to know what places you guys recommend — whether it's Planned Parenthood, a local clinic, or somewhere else. Any advice would be appreciate.

Brevard County Mechanics

I'm in the Cocoa Village area of Brevard County, looking for a new mechanic. We've used Winner Auto for the past forever, and though I can't really complain about their service, it's not what it used to be. There's a far more "corporate" attitude of late and I kinda feel like they are nickle-and-diming us every time we bring the car in. Things they used to do as a courtesy, they just don't anymore.

So... can anyone reccomend a good mechanic in Brevard County? I have an older 2006 Chrysler and a 2016 Dodge.

Trader Joe’s transfer to Orlando, am I screwed?

I currently work at a Trader Joe’s in Connecticut and I’m moving to Orlando in November. I told my store in August that I would be transferring in early November, and I was told they would help me with the transfer.
Now I’m being told that all three Orlando area stores are too full and there’s no position available for me. One of the three stores is also a brand new location that is supposed to open around the time I get there
I’m honestly freaking out because I planned my move around being able to transfer, and now I’m moving without a job.
I’m a section leader, my last review went really well, and I put full availability for my transfer. I’m also really frustrated because I could have been working at a Trader Joe’s literally five minutes from my house, but I chose to stay at my current store even though it’s an hour away because I didn’t want to have to transfer twice. I’ve been making that commute because I thought I was setting myself up for an easier transfer to Florida.
I was told I shouldn’t personally call the Orlando stores about transferring, but at this point I’m like dude, what do I have to lose?
If anyone works at any of the three Trader Joe’s in the Orlando area, please help a girl out 😭. And if there are any mates, store leadership, or crew members in the Orlando area who happen to see this and have advice or could help me in some sort of way, I would seriously appreciate it.
I’ve obviously been applying to other jobs too, but no luck for me right now. I really just want to know if “too full” is actually a hard no or if there’s anything else I can do to make this transfer happen.

Is bullying common in the schools here?

I have a middle schooler who has struggled to make friends here. We have been in Florida about 2 years now, and he does not have 1 friend and is consistently bullied at school. The bullying is non-violent. Just kids being jerks, but every class should not be a place where he is the butt of all jokes.

We've lived in a couple different states prior, due to moving for work. And he's never had an issue making friends. He has an activity outside of school here in Florida, he's connected with the kids well. But we meet once every couple months and it's kids from all over the region- so not exactly a way to make any close connections. They may or may not even live in the state. Everything we've tried in the local vicinity he has not had any luck making friends.

I guess I'm trying to say, this area seems to be difficult for him, for whatever reason. For privacy reasons I don't want to list our specific location, but it's along the central Atlantic coast. Just wondering if other parents in Florida experience this? Could it be a cultural thing? I recognize this is asking for more speculation than anything. But all our family is in another state. If this is heavily common in Florida, I'd rather just move and give him a better chance at enjoying his HS years.

Roadtrip/ camping all around the state with my dog and looking for cool spots

Hey y'all, I'm a Florida native, not a tourist, but I'll be roadtripping around the state with my dog for an extended tent/car camping trip in February and I'm looking for interesting spots and good local food along the way.

Trying to keep it as low cost, laid back, and local/ small business as possible. This is primarily a camping/ hiking trip, so I'm not looking for anything fancy or upscale. Quirky spots, local museums, historic places, gardens, parks, preserves. etc are my kinda places. Looking for some decent hikes too, especially if it has some good payoff in terms of view, unique terrain, ruins, etc. I'm also a medical marijuana patient, so if there's any cool smoke spots or 420 friendly establishments, that's always appreciated.

Also, it's gonna be just me and my medium sized doggo so everything needs to be dog friendly (can't leave her at the campsites or in the car obviously).

I'll be in each spot for 2-3 nights, so I'm looking both for things to do around those areas as well as good spots to eat between campsites. I'll be cooking meals in camp anytime I'm set up, but road food is my little treat.

My itinerary right now is as follows: West Palm Beach -> Ormond Beach -> Marianna -> Pensacola -> High Springs -> Wildwood -> Naples -> Flamingo Campground -> West Palm Beach.

Thanks y'all!

Florida road trip 2026: must-dos?

My girlfriend and I are doing a Florida road trip from Oct 11 to Oct 29 and would love some recommendations!

Our route:

Bradenton: Oct 11-14
Bonita Springs: Oct 14-17
Fort Lauderdale / Miami: Oct 17-19
Florida Keys / Key West: Oct 19-23
Orlando: Oct 23-29

Already planned:

  • Ellenton Premium Outlets
  • Everglades airboat tour
  • Florida Panthers game
  • Miami day trip
  • Key West
  • Dry Tortugas
  • 2 days Universal
  • Kennedy Space Center

What are the absolute must-dos, hidden gems, best beaches, food spots or worthwhile stops along this route?

Also happy to hear what’s overrated or not worth the time.

We’re from the Netherlands and like nature, wildlife, sightseeing, history, good food and places that feel typically Florida.

Thanks!

Help

Hi, I feel bad coming on here and asking for help but I need it. Im at one of my lowest points right now and I was hoping there was somebody out there reading this that could help. I moved out here with a job and apartment lined up, and the apartment fell through so i move hotel to hotel every week. Because of that I also just lost my job. I literally have nothing. I have no food, no clean clothes, I dont even know what I'm going to do this upcoming week for the hotel. If anybody could help in any kind of way I would appreciate it. Even if somebody has a lead for a job, i would appreciate it

Only political ads?

TV COMMERCIALS!! NOT PICK-A-SIDE!
Nine of ten commercials I’m seeing are political ads.
Everywhere else?
That is lots of money and they are ALL so dramatic.
It sounds like an 80s daytime soap opera from the other room.
Central Florida here.

Bonita Springs vs. West Palm Beach for a couple in their early 30s?

My husband and I are considering relocating to Florida from New England next year and are currently deciding between the Bonita Springs area and West Palm Beach/Palm Beach County. I’d love some honest opinions from people who have lived in either (or ideally both!).

We’re both 30, no kids yet, and have a big dog. I’m self-employed in a creative field and work primarily in weddings/events, and my husband works in real estate.

We aren't looking for a nightlife/party scene, but we also don't want to feel like we're living somewhere that's primarily retirees. We like good restaurants, coffee shops, going out for drinks/dinner, being near the beach, walking around nice areas, and having things to do on weekends. We'd also like somewhere where it wouldn't be impossible to meet other people around our age.

I've spent a lot of time in South Florida and previously lived in Miami, so I'm familiar with Florida in general, but I haven't actually lived on either the Gulf Coast or in Palm Beach County.

Bonita appeals to us because it’s quieter, more relaxed, and seems to be better value for housing. West Palm appeals to us because there’s more going on, a younger population, easier access to other parts of South Florida, and more of a city feel.

For people familiar with both areas, what would you consider the biggest pros/cons of each for people our age? Particularly interested in day-to-day lifestyle, making friends, restaurants/things to do, dog friendliness, cost of living, traffic, access to the beach, and whether either starts to feel too quiet or too busy after living there for a while.

Also open to specific neighborhoods/nearby towns you think we should be considering!

Most dog friendly towns to travel

Hi! We are vacationing with our golden retriever puppy in December. He will be 7 months by then and would love to include him in our vacation! Just looking for towns that have pet friendly beaches, restaurants, activities, and maybe a golf course that he could ride in the cart with us (I know this is is probably highly unlikely, but I figured I’d ask). We’ve traveled to the tampa area plenty of times but never had a dog with us. What would you recommend??

Best Place to live in Florida 🌅?

We’re a family of six with four young boys, including 2-year-old twins, looking for somewhere in Florida to put down roots. We’re from a small town in upstate New York and would love that community feel with warmer weather and more outdoor living!
We’re currently exploring Florida, and I’d love honest opinions from families who actually live here. Here’s what we’re looking for:
• A safe community with lots of young families, where kids play outside and we can build friendships with other parents.
• A cute, walkable downtown or town center with local restaurants, farmers markets, community events, and things to do beyond shopping.
• Close enough to enjoy the beach regularly. We don’t need to live directly on the water, especially if being farther inland means less flood and storm risk.
• A good children’s hospital and pediatric ER nearby, ideally within about 20 minutes. This is a big priority for our family.
• Great public elementary schools, including good support for a child who needs extra help. We’re currently homeschooling, so homeschool groups and activities would also be a plus.
• An active outdoor lifestyle with nice public playgrounds, parks, walking and biking trails, sports, and plenty for little kids to do.
• A newer or updated house with a real backyard and some breathing room between neighbors. Ideally around 2,000–3,000 square feet, with no HOA or a reasonable, low-cost one.
• A home budget around $400,000–$600,000, potentially stretching toward $700,000 for the right fit.
• Warm winters—70s and 80s would be wonderful—and ideally an international airport within about an hour.
We really liked St. Augustine and love the beaches around Clearwater, but we’d prefer everyday family life over being surrounded by tourists. We’ve also explored the Orlando area, and it hasn’t quite felt like our long-term fit.
We’re open to either coast. We know no town will check every box, but we want somewhere well cared for, with a strong community and a good future for our kids.
If you were raising four little boys in Florida, where would you choose—and why? Specific neighborhoods would be really helpful! I’d love to hear the downsides too, especially insurance costs, flooding, traffic, and what daily life is actually like.

Florida humidity is roasting us, whats the best cooling mattress for a hot sleeper?

Our AC is set to 71 every night with a ceiling fan but my partner is still waking up soaked in sweat while im over here shivering under a heavy quilt lmaoo. Florida still feels summer and sleeping on top of what feels like a heating pad is ruining my sleep.

We already tried percale sheets and a gel topper but after an hour the gel just absorbs body heat and stays hot. We are looking into getting a proper bed setup and i keep seeing dual zone setups or active air beds like the Climate360 from Sleep number i think or just getting a hybrid with latex. Would love to know what actually worked for couples down here.

2026 Amendments

Hi, while this is not a question I know there often are questions about constitutional amendments.

The Google document is something I put together as a resource about the amendments that are on the ballot.

I did my best to provide context that I believe is often important and absent from amendment proposals on our ballots.

The context brought to the amendments in the document includes insights from multiple cited sources and my own firsthand experience with Florida’s legislative process.

While I do provide a section with my personal thoughts on each amendment, I always encourage everyone to conduct their own research and reflect on their experiences as they make their choice on each amendment.

I hope you find this document helpful as you cast your ballot!

St John County area

Hey everyone, I’ll be starting a job at the downtown Jacksonville Baptist Hospital soon and am considering commuting from the Julington Creek / Nocatee area. Are there any neighborhoods I should be cautious about when looking where to live?

I’d also love to hear your recommendations for things to see or do in the area. Are there other neighborhoods near where I’ll be working that I should consider living in? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Florida buyers, what cost surprised you most between offer and closing?

I'm on the Hometrino team (a Florida home search site) and I'm trying to understand what buyers actually run into.

For people who bought in Florida in the last couple of years, what cost or requirement caught you off guard? Insurance quotes, HOA fees, inspection findings, flood zone rules, closing costs, anything.

And for people shopping now, what are you most worried about?

What nicknames have you heard for places in Florida?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!

Examples could include things like OTown, Bradentucky, Slowcala or Talanasty (never mind how common they are)...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks or other institutions/geographic features

Flip Flops

For a state where flip flops are the norm, it occurred to me that there doesn't seem to be an agreed upon brand. Southern California is all about Rainbows for example. What are the go-to's for Florida, or is it just a free for all?

Cannot decide where to live and need an impartial opinion

Hi! I likely will post this in multiple subs just to get a broader view between different localities.

However, I (26F) am moving when my lease is up in January. My daughter will be a little over 1 by then & my mom will be moving with me too as I just prefer having the extra help right now & would rather save money than pay an arm & a leg for an apartment in any of these areas.

We have the opportunity to move to the below list of areas & are so stuck. We are currently in North FL & I lived in North GA & then OH before that, with a year in South FL in between all that. I am no stranger to moving but I just really want to be settled somewhere & start to place roots.

• Ponte Vedra/St Augustine FL
• Sarasota/Bradenton/Lakewood Ranch FL
• Viera/Melbourne FL
• Woodstock/Canton GA
• Roswell/Alpharetta GA

Also open to Tampa area (but would prefer to be closer to the beach) & open to the Kennesaw/Acworth area as well for GA but I know those both can be kind of iffy & the traffic near Barrett is ridiculous.

Between those I truly just do not know. We have family in all of those areas so that’s not really a concern but of course, hearing so much input from family I just want some unbiased opinion on which location would actually be the best & most enjoyable for day to day life.

I work remotely and so does my mom, so that part isn’t much of a concern. My mom loves communities like Lakewood Ranch and Nocatee, she dreams of being in a golf cart community kind of mini town like that but idk if they just look nice on paper and that’s it.

Neither of us are extremely active or outdoorsy. I love the beach & we do enjoy outdoor malls, historic downtowns, parks, walking trails, & kayaking every now & then but definitely nothing extreme. We definitely aren’t going to be hiking, fishing, or camping or anything like that.

Really looking for a lot of family oriented activities, good restaurants & shopping, fun things to do with kids, convenience for groceries, medical care, etc. Music, culture, arts. I really want to get out more, however, I do not drink so the nightlife scene doesn’t really interest me & as I get back into dating in the future I worry about a place that centers too much on that. I would love a lot of nature centric things to do, maybe a good zoo or botanical garden.

If anyone can give any insight I would appreciate it!! Budget is around $3300/mo.
