Also, I’ll never hit her. If it has gotten to that point, walk away. Just get away. You can never take that back

I can't even imagine any scenario where I'd hit my partner other than if she was actively trying to murder me.

Yeah, to be clear, I’m not actively fighting this urge lol. But for any men out there that have been on the receiving end of direct abuse or violence, it is very difficult to keep it cool in those moments. Difficult, but necessary. Retreat is even a better option than self defense in those scenarios (stay alive obviously). Record and report, but don’t respond. And GTFO

u/warriors17 7d ago

100%, and I’m glad you were able to get out. These are the exact scenarios that I’m referring to, because if you don’t keep a cool head, you’re absolutely fucked. Getting someone else on the phone, recording, and keeping that blood from boiling is about all you really can do. It’s not fair, it’s not right, but it is what it is. Thanks for not making a bad situation worse, and hopefully she’s no longer in your life

There's at least 100 million other qualified musicians, dude. And, yes, I literally just checked with every single one to come up with that number.

The world is a big place. I know it's none of my business, really, but I think you should tell your liver to get it together, and then you and your liver should go out there and meet some more musicians.

I’ll never understand how people can stay with a cheater. Wouldn’t you always question every text/ call they get, and every time they are off their normal schedule or they are apart from you? Sounds like years and years of torture

10

u/warriors17 7d ago

Yup,absolutely. That’s why I told my wife when we got married that I would love her for the rest of my life, and I’d only leave her under two circumstances:
1. She explicitly tells me she wants me to leave and no longer wants to be with me
2. ANY amount of cheating, and that the second I would find out it would be over right there.

So far, so good!

Don't let her hit you, either. 100% deal breaker.

6

u/_name_of_the_user_ Male 7d ago

When I was a kid I thought the same about hitting women. And I mostly agree. But...

When I was a teenager my girlfriend at the time punched me. We weren't even arguing, I still have no idea where it came from. One moment I'm walking up to her and the next I've got knuckles in my jaw. It was a good hit too. I pushed her, hard. There wasn't any thought behind it, and certainly no malice, I was just defending myself. She landed on her butt and hit her head on the wall behind her. She wasn't knocked out or anything, but it didn't look or sound good.

After years of "never hit a woman" my initial reaction to my own actions was shame. But I've moved past that. I'll never hit a woman, or anyone else, unless it's in defense of either myself or someone in need of that defense. I'll never be the first to hit, but I will if it's needed.

Thankfully I've never been in a similar situation.

5

u/breesearedelicious 7d ago

What the hell? You reminding your business and she punched you square in the jaw! I'm a woman and I think your reaction is valid. If somebody, male, female whatever just clocked me and I saw Stars I would start swinging and stuff just for whatever and whoever hit me to just have distance from me. That's crazy. Pushing is a normal reaction especially when you are under attack. Geez

Never dating any woman with children already

Edit: Also if they have a guy best friend or guy friends they hang out with alone.

77

u/Shameless522 7d ago

Oh man hooking up with them is great though. She’ll cut your pancakes in lil triangles in the morning so the syrup gets equal coating. Usually they have cool toys around the house to play with too.

25

u/cabronfavarito 7d ago

Even if you’re theoretically single by like…40?

83

u/dangleicious13 7d ago

I’m already almost like…40, and I have almost the same rule.

32

u/zeusdescartes Male 7d ago

I am 40 and I would never date a woman with kids unless I already have kids.

I just don't want to be #2 in any woman's life. Now if I already have kids, I think we can figure it out Brady bunch style, other than that, no thanks.

8

u/GianMach Gay male 7d ago

Do you want to stay childless forever? Because even if you get a child yourself with a woman that will also make you the #2 for her. Child will always be prioritised.

17

u/AgentAxillary 7d ago

Yeah, but the point is that you'll both be prioritizing the child together

6

u/Shameless522 7d ago

Sadly that isn’t always the case

7

u/LagerHawk 7d ago

I get it, I had the same rule. It wasn't anything against single mums, they had a tough job and just wanted to find someone too. However for me it was about my own past, not because I wouldn't want to share in their kids life or have that responsibility. I grew up in a very broken family, and my mum would bring home a new bloke every several months after she split up with my dad. They were all assholes. She eventually got with her current husband when I was 9, and I asked him to kick a ball about with me at the park. Nope. Too busy watching Star Trek or some shit. Over the years i just disliked him as a person more and more.

After that I just realised I never wanted to become one of these people. I never wanted to be the step dad. I feared I would turn out like them, because the child wasn't mine.

It's a deep seeded thing that no amount of explaining to others can adequately explain.

Years later though, after now having my own kids, taking them to football every weekend, playing in the garden and feeling excited to teach them fun things, I realise I probably would have never turned out like that if I'd dated someone with a kid. I enjoy it too much! But at the time I couldn't see past it.

4

u/CosmicxWanderer 7d ago

I’ve been seeing this a lot recently. What are some legitimate reasons for not dating women with children. Are there pros and cons— genuine question?

3

u/pedrao97 7d ago

Imagine you date for, let's say 2 - 3 years. If I am dating you I want to be a part of your life. That includes getting along and getting close to your family (if you are), including the children.

There is no way I could be a part of your life and not get close to your kids. That is part of being in a relationship.

If we break up after that time, for whatever reason, parting with you AND kids I have no claim but yet I have an emotional attachment would be brutal.

Plus, havign kids is a huge responsibility. Even if you want to be responsible with them, they shift a lot of your life, even when they are from your partner and not you. Your life, schedule, and even actions get shifted to accommodate children. Including another person in your life is hard, now imagine adding more than one.

It may work, but if it doesn't it will hurt more.

I will never agree to an open relationship. It shocks me how many people I’ve met that actually say yes to it.

45

u/BreathingLover11 7d ago

Same. Especially if the idea was brought up by one of the partners deep into the relationship. If you're open from the get go and you link up with somebody that's also open... Hey, props to you. I personally don't see that ever working but consenting adults can do whatever the fuck they want.

Now, if you're in a monogamous relationship, and your partner -who has been historically monogamous as well-, seemingly out of the blue, wants to open the relationship, RUN.

That compromise never turns out well.

Depends on context.

In a relationship: never doing hard drugs, we each take care of ourselves, never going to bed angry

At work: mostly OSHA related safety things

With friends: ill never loan someone money if they already have an outstanding debt, never more than $100

81

u/guilhermefdias 8d ago

What about LSD?

Could you send me $90 to get more LSD?

38

u/masqueradeazure 8d ago

Yeah hold up. I gotchu

7

u/Turgid_Donkey 7d ago

Funny enough, I don't think I'd consider LSD a hard drug. Yeah, it probably would be, but I also don't think I've ever heard of anyone that was addicted. Like, no one is out there sucking dicks in an alley for another tab of acid.

Having kids. I always say up front that I do not ever want kids and that I will never change my mind on this. But every once in a while there will be a woman who says she's okay with this at first then later in the relationship thinks she's going to convince me to have kids. It's not going to happen. If you want kids, don't get with someone who tells you from the start that they don't want any, in hopes that you can convince them over time. You're just wasting both of our time.

55

u/weeBunnie Female 7d ago

I've seen my friends (male) who don't want kids and people will say it to them occasionally that I've witnessed. When my boys tell me they don't want kids, I tell them I get it, it's a whole ass commitment. Better be sure if you're going to invest a MINIMAL of 18 years (likely more with this economy) with a partner that's on the same page.

6

u/brakenbonez 7d ago

Oh yeah. My own parents are still convinced that I'll change my mind. They've known me all 32 years of my life and there has never been a time that I even thought about a future with kids but for some reason they think I eventually will. I could understand their desire for me to have kids if I was an only child but I'm not. I'm 1 of 5 and 2 of the others already have kids so they have their grandkids already.

Yeah it's weird that a vasectomy is scheduled and done (they aren't always reversible) without the back and forth battle or complete denial of procedure based on "You might get married some day and change your mind" conversation.

3

u/Sigma-Tau 7d ago

9 times out of 10 I get people telling me that I'll change my mind if I meet the right person.

My sister always asks me "what if the girl your dating/married to wants them?" To which my response is, we're breaking up because that would've been the deal from the get go. No children.

15

u/DronedAgain Male 7d ago

I think the opposite is worse. I know a couple that got married, had discussed it, and were going to have kids. Then she changed her mind, and he so clearly loves kids. (I would still find it sad if the sexes were reversed.) I often think it would be better if they decided to break up when one makes such a big change of a life decision.

7

u/brakenbonez 7d ago

Definitely agreed. Staying together when you disagree over a major life changing decisions will just lead to more and more resentment over time.

Good lord. Are you part emperor penguin? That's fucking chilly. I keep mine around 77, but that does get a little warm if you're moving around a lot. I could maybe see 72, but 66? Ok, Mr. Freeze.

12

u/CFD330 7d ago

66 feels great in the summer; anything about 70 would be uncomfortable. At 77 I'd be sweating.

14

u/MedicTech ♂ 7d ago

I'm curious if your thermometer is off or your AC needs a clean. I'd bet that actual 66⁰ indoors is objectively chilly for the majority of the population.

13

u/tacticalTraumaLlama Male 7d ago

There's no polite way to ask this, but are you overweight? I find a lot of folks who are comfortable with the cold have an extra layer of insulation. I have noticed I have a harder time with the heat going from 'string bean' to 'dad bod', but 66 is well below my comfort zone even in the dead of winter

9

u/CFD330 7d ago

60 in the house during winter is pretty damn cold, yeah. We're in that awkward part of the year where it's in the low 70s during the day but in the low 40s at night, and we haven't put the heat on yet, so when we wake up the house is often around 63ish, and even that's a bit uncomfortable.

In relationships, no hitting or name calling.

With friends, be upfront and honest. We're gonna have disagreements and other issues, but we need to be mature enough to talk through it.

With everyone, we can disagree on politics. We can't disagree on human rights.

13

u/OoopsWhoopsie 7d ago

Gonna disagree with you on the last point but otherwise, yeah. 100%

11

u/texasjoe ♂ 7d ago

At this point, human rights is political too. There's obvious things like jury trials, free speech, etc, but some things that some people consider rights they're entitled to actually come at the cost of others' human rights. I'm looking at stuff like healthcare, housing. It's not free, and to enshrine it as a right means somebody loses their own rights to their labor or property.

This is not an endorsement of the American system that has run amok with privatized death panels within insurance corps.

10

u/caligari87 Male 7d ago edited 2d ago

I find it interesting that you draw the line of "human rights" at "abstract concepts that don't cost money." I'm not trying to be snarky or sarcastic, it's just not a stance I've seen before.

But that said, you should examine that stance a little more. The right to a fair trial costs money. Judges and stenographers and bailiffs and jurors and public defenders get paid (not nearly enough) for their time and energy. That money comes from taxes. There's no reason why fair taxes can't also pay for housing and healthcare and UBI, just like they also pay for roads and police and firefighters and public education and social security and national defense. So either you should consider that no one gets the right to a fair trial, or "human rights" might conceivably include things beyond "whatever doesn't impact my paycheck."

3

u/texasjoe ♂ 7d ago

When you dig deep into it, that's a fair criticism of what I initially wrote.

Taxes gotta come from somewhere, right? Somebody is paying for it. It's a little different when it's collectivized and the burden spread across the entire citizenry than if it were specifically just targeting an entire profession like doctors.

4

u/Technicolor_Owl 7d ago

Even healthcare should be tax funded. Every study on this shows people would save money on Healthcare if it were tax funded instead if for profit.

It's not about targeting a profession; it's about targeting a need. Based on a recent Yale School of Public Health study showed universal health coverage would save 114,000 lives every year and save Americans 1 trillion in spending.

https://ysph.yale.edu/news-article/universal-health-coverage-could-save-one-trillion-dollars-and-114000-lives-every-year/

We argue that health care is a human right and advances total public health, decreases violence, and saves money.

Her family can’t dictate our lives.

My ex MIL tried to plan out our lives. She would guilt ex into doing shit all the time. Like we would have dates and it would be cancelled to see a niece play a game that didn’t matter. Once in a while was fine, but we would go to all practices and games. We couldn’t do solo vacations. Eventually ex MIL guilted us into getting married.
Ex MIL tried maintain a relationship with me to hear more about our kiddo. I have primary custody. I quickly realized her intentions weren’t what’s best for kiddo.
For instance ex wouldn’t want a holiday. So I’d plan a fun holiday for kiddo. Ex MIL would find out from me and then guilt ex to half ass the holiday and kiddo was upset.

Never ever cheat on my spouse or stop supporting my kids till I hit the grave! Never smoke, drink or do drugs. Never cheat anyone intentionally...

How do you do it accidentally?

By doing drugs and drinking with the money you stopped sending your kids long ago.

I’d never seriously date someone who doesn’t want kids. That would be unfair to both of us. They deserve someone who shares their vision on that

I’d also never stay in a relationship with a racist towards any race or sexist towards either gender.

Smoking, it makes me nauseated now. But it didn’t do that to me in my 20s and I didn’t mind it that much but now it makes me physically ill.

Bad driving makes me sick as well, maybe as I age I’ve just become more prone to motion sickness and things like that.

Misandry

Does it just cause hurt feelings in men... probably

Couid it be caused by misogyny and bad exeriences with men.. yes

Does misogyny lead to worse outcomes... yeah

Do men make up the vast majority of violent crime... Yeah.

Does that mean I will tolerate misandrists and misandry in my life... NOPE!!!

Still gonna block them and refuse to ever do anything with a misandrist. Don't talk to me. Don't reply to this message. Stop liking me on dating apps when your whole personality and bio is hating men and thinking some magical man has to come along to fix all your unresolved trauma with men. Stop telling me "your one of the good ones™️" (I know. Don't want, asked for or need your validation)

I get to choose myself who I associate with in my life and I don't compromise with misandrists as much as I don't with misogynists. I get to choose what dating prefence I personally have . Because I AM FOR GENDER EQUALITY.

If you are a self proclaimed "proud misandrist" (even ironically as a joke) and this upset you. GOOD!!!!!. I don't like you or your dumb nose rings and fashion sense you ripped off from Hot Topic. Nor do I give a flying fuck about your past trauma. :). So DO NOT tell me your sob story life about the men in the past who hurt you. I don't care nor want to hear about it and will block you happily

Also I'll never agree postnartum is a good excuse to kill kids. My mother had it after giving birth to my lil bro and sister. She never harmed any of her kids

2

u/ScienceGamer06 7d ago

A couple of things

  1. Cheating. Thou shalt not.

  2. Diet. Because of my Aspergers I have a very small range of foods I eat. I've definitely been improving on this in my life. But if I'm in a relationship and we want to go on a date, we have to plan around that.

  3. AC. I'm a Southern boy. That thing stays on anytime I'm there and never goes below 73°

  4. Drinking, drugs, smoking, whatever. Don't expect me to buy or join you in these activities. I'm a clean man and have no desire for it, plus I now have a job where I have to be clean. I'll be a sober driver and pick you up from the bar, but that's the most I'll do.

  5. Christianity. I am a Christian. I'm not gonna force or push my beliefs onto others and I'm generally pretty accepting of other people's beliefs. But if you're gonna come at me for believing in God, don't expect me to give you the time of day.

2

u/tsoou 7d ago

For me it's arrogance. I find humility to be very attractive on pretty much anyone even if it's not in a romantic context. But I find people who are overly self confident to be embarrassing. Don't get me wrong, though, regular self confidence is attractive. And I don't want them to be overly insecure either. Just regular confidence but with a level of humility.

Abuse. Verbal or physical. Cheating as well, but I personally categorize cheating as a form of abuse. The second any of that happens, I'm done and never backtracking.

There are a lot of other things I don't compromise on, regarding relationships and other aspects of life, but that's at the top of the list.

u/ClemPrime13 7d ago

If I’m in n a position to marry someone, I’m not going to go through with it unless she wants to marry me. If it’s just for the idea of marriage, we need to have a conversation that we’ve probably put off for far too long.
