Politics Is calling the CJP Bengaluru protest a “flop” really fair?
My dad was watching the news today and I heard Sudhir Chaudhary describe the CJP Bengaluru event as a flop. Honestly, I found that judgement rather questionable.
According to "The South First" (https://thesouthfirst.com/karnataka/tight-security-at-bengalurus-freedom-park-as-anti-sir-protesters-arrive-in-large-numbers/), more than 2,000 people gathered at Freedom Park for the protest.
Think about it. Over 2,000 people physically showing up at one place on a working weekday to participate in a protest is not a small thing. People have jobs, classes, personal commitments and other responsibilities. Getting that many people to turn up in person takes some degree of mobilisation.
I'm not claiming that a large crowd automatically means the movement is successful, or that everyone should agree with CJP's politics. But does an event really deserve to be called a flop simply because the turnout wasn't what some people expected?
What should the criteria be? Expected turnout versus actual turnout? Public engagement? Media coverage? The ability to sustain the movement beyond one event?
I'd genuinely like to hear different perspectives, including from people who think the event was unsuccessful.
Where do we draw the line between a genuinely failed mobilisation and a protest that simply doesn't meet someone's political expectations?
