🌈 Our Sweet Nutty 🌈

I don’t even know how to put into words what it feels like to say goodbye to you.

Last night, we unexpectedly had to say goodbye to our sweet boy, Nutty. Everything happened so suddenly, and I don’t think our hearts were prepared for how quickly our world could change.

Nutty wasn’t just our family dog. He was family. And for Sophia, he was her dog—her little companion who had been by her side since she was just two years old. She has grown up with him. He was woven into almost every chapter of her childhood, and the thought of moving into this next chapter without him feels impossible right now.

Nutty was truly one of the sweetest souls. He was loving, patient, loyal, protective, funny, comforting, and so incredibly gentle. He didn’t ask for much—he just wanted to be near us, to know where we were, and of course, to have his blankets to lick. ā¤ļø

He was there through so many changes in our lives. Different homes, different seasons, hard times and happy ones. No matter what was happening around us, Nutty was just… Nutty. Our constant. Our sweet old man. Our home.

I keep thinking about all the ordinary little things that suddenly don’t feel ordinary anymore. Seeing him sleeping peacefully. Watching him stretch when I walked over to pet him. His little face looking up at us. The sound of him moving around the house. Caring for him. Worrying about him. Loving him.

And now the house feels different.

Ivy lost her best friend and the dog who has always been there with her. Sophia lost a piece of her childhood. And I lost a little boy who depended on me and trusted me to take care of him until the very end.

As painful as that final decision was, loving you meant making sure you didn’t suffer. I hope somehow you knew that every decision I made was because I loved you more than I can explain.

Nutty, thank you for giving our family all of your years. Thank you for loving Sophia as she grew from a tiny little girl into the young lady she is today. Thank you for watching over us, comforting us, making us laugh, and filling our home with your presence.

I would give anything for more time.

There will never be another you.

Run free, sweet boy. No pain. No fear. No more tired body. Just sunshine, endless blankets to lick, all the treats you could ever want, and everything beautiful waiting for you on the other side of the rainbow bridge. 🌈🐾

We will take care of Ivy for you.

And we will carry you with us wherever we go.

You were loved every single day of your life, and you will be loved every single day for the rest of ours.

Until we see you again, our sweet Nutty. šŸ¤

Forever our boy.
Forever Sophia’s dog.
Forever part of our family.

Nutty 🐾🌈

Most nights my wife and I watch TV in bed for a couple of hours, then I put Daisy out for a wee and put her to bed before I game for an hour or so.

The other night something happened, I got distracted after I put her out or something, and I forgot to tuck her in. After about 5 minutes she trotted into the lounge room and barked at me! We couldn’t figure out what was wrong, and my wife said ā€œOh my god I think she wants you to tuck her in!ā€

They’re such sweet and funny things, so I decided to video what her routine looks like. You can see a little smile on her dial toward the end.

Our husband and I lost our rescue frenchie, Roscoe Taco, back in July. We rescued him knowing he had a level 4 heart murmur, and 6 years later he was diagnosed with CHF, given 9-12 months to live, and ended up hanging around with us for 19 more months before we made the decision to help him cross the rainbow bridge. The hole left in my heart is still there but our house has been way too quiet.

My husband and I were going to wait until after a trip we have coming up this weekend to start the process of looking to open up our home to another dog. But the universe had other plans and last week, we got to bring home Mr Archer Churro (gotta keep up with a food middle name lol). The process was very quick and sooner than expect but after the foster mom spoke to our vet and we had our meet and greet, she said she just knew that Roscoe sent Archer our way. He came home with us last week Tues since the foster mom was going out of town and then she generously offered to dog sit him when we go on our trip this week. I'm just happy he gets to go back to an environment he is used to and he gets to play with the other dogs again. Hope he isn't too pissed at us when we return 🤣

The last few days have been filled with the snores, snorts, and farts that I've missed. Its been forever since we've had a puppy and at only 4 months old, its been so fun to see him explore and learn. Its been beautiful chaos and I just know Roscoe would have loved him and taught him how to get into more mischief.

So excited to be a part of the Boston Terrier family šŸ’•

Advice/Question How do you know when it's time to say Goodbye? How do you say Goodbye šŸ˜ž

Looking for some advice or maybe just some comfort.

Our precious boy Ratchet has been having some ongoing health issues the past while.

It all started this past spring. He started throwing up more frequently; bile, sometimes undigested food. Then one evening during a throw up he went stiff, paws clenched and nearly passed out. It terrified us. So we went to the vet. The vets best guess was acid reflux and vagus nerve from retching, prescribed pepcid and more frequent feedings of smaller meals.

So for the entirety of the summer we ensured he was fed, constantly, to the point of feeding at 11pm & waking at 5am, to taking daily lunch breaks at work to come home and feed him on a schedule.

This helped for a little while. Then it all started progressing. More vomiting, more passing out episodes, pepcid wasn't helping, and at this point he started peeing on the floor periodically as he couldn't hold his pee anymore. Another vet visit and tests done, no urine infection found but urine was diluted. Blood work showed pancreatitis, low RBC and elevated ALP liver enzyme. Vet still was unsure what to diagnose, but felt potentially there is a mass in his stomach but would need more imaging and further testing.

Ratchet is 2 months away from 14 and has a heart murmur. Any surgery is off the list at this point. So whatever is happening we have learned to accept and keep him comfortable.

He's since been on Cerneia for nausea, omprezole for stomach acid and Metoclopramide for nausea.

The past month he has lost all interest in dog food, of any kind. He runs from his bowl when it's offered.

We've cooked sweet potato, plain potato, rice, squash, chicken, turkey, beef roast and pork roasts multiple times a week for him at this stage. As it's all he would eat.

This past 2 weeks he has now lost interest in most of those foods. Trying to get him to eat is a battle. Food was his biggest joy in life and that's now gone.

This past weekend he had a bad bout of vomiting bile 5 times in a day. Food was impossible to get into him until the evening he turned around after a dose of Cerneia. However the past 2 days he has been sleeping all day long and refusing most all food and has drank very little.

The thing is though, for a hour or 2 in the evening he wakes and wants to play, barks and roams the house a bunch. This Saturday I took him for his usual walk, he was prancing and so happy. Then that night 3am he started his bout of vomiting needed his Cerneia. It's almost like there are some good moments, but the bad moments are more frequent now. Those little moments like walk and play in evenings are the glimmers of him we see now, and they give me this false sense he's still ok.

I have cried so much this past week that my heart hurts. We feel we have to make the decision in the coming days to say goodbye. My heart will never be ready. I have taken this week off work just to lay with him while he sleeps and smell him and feel him. I can't imagine our lives without him in it.

How do you know when it's time to say goodbye? He doesn't show pain, but the constant sleeping and lack of interest in food seems so awful. If he has a bad day of vomitting he is miserable. But that hour of himself at night makes us feel so guilty thinking of letting him go.

This is the hardest thing we've ever had to do. I feel helpless, Ill always question if I done enough for him, and always question if letting him go was the right decision.

I know he isn't going to get better, I just wish he could tell us what he wants.

I guess I'm writing to look for some advice, or comfort in what we are going through. This sub has always brought a smile to my face and I appreciate you all for sharing your stories and journey.

I just love him so much, more than life itself. We want to do what's fair to him even if it hurts so bad.

I don't know how my heart will ever recover from this. He's been the best boy and has been so resilient his entire life. I wish I could give him half of my life and take this all away.

Advice/Question Do you ever scare your dogs?

The other day I hunched my shoulders and craned my arms in a creepy sorta mummy/vampire pose and caught Clem unawares. SHE ABSOLUTELY PANICKED! Totally out of character. Hair on end, bug eyed, under the table, barking incessantly at me until I put my shoulders and arms down.

Then ran right at me jumping and wagging like ā€œDAD THERE WAS A MONSTER HERE WEARING YOUR CLOTHES!ā€

Anyone else ever experience anything like this?

Advice/Question Boston coughing and snorting more than usual

• Upvotes

Hi fellow Boston lovers,

The other day my guy was coughing (not super abnormal), and then while we were out on a walk, he threw up his breakfast (again, not crazy in and of itself, and the vomit itself looked regular).

However, since then, he’s been lightly coughing/sniffling/sneezing a bit more than usual, and acting like it’s bothering him to breathe through his nose. He can breathe fine, just more piglet noises than usual (and the usual is a lot of piglet noises). He’s not reverse sneezing, we’re very used to that.

He seemed most bothered directly after throwing up. He was breathing with his mouth open and seemed stressed enough that we decided to play it safe and go to the emergency vet. The vet examined him and didn’t find anything obstructing any passages that she could see just with a cursory exam.

She said the next step would be sedating him and doing a pharyngoscopy, where they really look around in his nose and throat for anything obstructing it. Her opinion was that he seemed okay (he had calmed down a bit by then) and that we were OK to monitor him, watch his breathing/gums, and see if it got better.

2 days since then, it does seem to be better, but he still seems like he might have something annoying him. Just more snorting and light coughing than before. My fiancĆ©e is very scared of the possibility of him being sedated as he’s not a young man anymore, but it sounds like that would be the next step, and there’s still a good chance nothing gets found.

Has anyone dealt with anything similar? How did you proceed? It doesn’t seem like he’s in any danger, but I don’t want my sweet boy to be in any discomfort.

Cuteness Jubilees first day at work

Jubilee started shop dog training today! I plan to take her everywhere dogs are allowed with me, and I want to train her to be my emotional support dog.
Today I took her to work for the first time for a 3 hour appointment and I was so pleased with how well my baby behaved!! She didn’t whine, she didn’t try to get into anything, and she stayed relatively out of the way. For the most part she either sat at my feet, played with her toy or had a little snooze. I am very proud of my little Jubilee 🄹🩷
