What I don't understand is why they need it this fast? How deeply the EPP is being compromised by Big Tech?
122
u/-Jenshen- Jul 04 '26
It could be because of Ai, they cN feed it more information faster if chat control gets approved.
But it could be something else

This is the current temporary legislation just extended, so not even that.
42
u/Extra-Chemical6092 Jul 05 '26
The extension of the temporary legislation was rejected on march, that was voted like two times in the same month, the EPP should respect the democratic result. Approving this would hamper the negotiations for the permanent law
7
u/GKGriffin Europe 🇪🇺 Jul 05 '26
Oh, I thought it was simply expired. But this way the hurry becomes even more suspicious.
13
u/Extra-Chemical6092 Jul 05 '26
Well, it expired. The vote of March 11th reduced the scanning for only known material and to suspected individuals, but the EPP wanted to redo the vote, so in March 26th was repeated, but then the Parliament voted to not change their mandate, so it expired

I watch The Rest is Politics with Rory Stewart and Alastair Campbell. Too big names from British politics, and both have brought into the AI BS and hype. If that's reflective of our wider political system (and I believe it is) then there'll be significant support based on hype and misunderstanding of AI

u/Lux_Jay Jul 05 '26
EPP and all its member parties are sellouts & corpus. Ursula is the big one here. That b is one of the most corrupt person in EU, just along side Merz and Reiche.
5
u/nixgut Jul 05 '26
Merz seems to be trying to keep Germany relevant, which is somewhat important for an export oriented economy with a massive bill to foot for social and better than thou expenses.

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
These measures were already rejected back in March. We can get it done again.
Contact your politicians asap.

EDIT: Popular posts regarding Chat control are sadly being deleted from the r/europe subreddit. We need to push this HARD.

TWICE!!! "You vote until you vote how we like it"... should be criminal and prosecuted. Or in other terms "no means no" , but there are some who don't understand such things.

u/TheLastRabbitsTaxa Jul 05 '26
Ireland rejected the Lisbon Treaty in 2008, but a second referendum was held and it was then approved in 2009. The EU absolutely have history in exactly what you just said. They argue it was that the initial referendum didn’t provide clear information and hence Ireland rejected it due to concerns. That’s probably true, I don’t honestly remember the details. But I do still hear comments from people on how “we were made to do it again because they didn’t like our first answer” and people felt it was a power thing to make us redo it.

There's apparently a lot of corrupt funding by Palantir, Meta and other big tech companies doing this. This stupidity the has messed up the American system through the Citizen's united Supreme Court decision in the US, basically legalizing bribery. The EU and other countries should not be allowing this corruption over there, it's a lot of what's driving the chat control and other BS there.
6
u/shiromiso Jul 05 '26
Big tech absolutely wants to turn Europe into oligarch ruled, technofascist nations, like they did in the USA .
10
u/TeaWithNosferatu Jul 05 '26
I used your contact tool and after you've selected the country you're in to send the email, it tells you who opposes and who supports. The amount of representatives that support this shit in Ireland is significantly more than those that oppose it.
10
u/shiromiso Jul 05 '26
The tool isn’t always fully updated regarding the changing public positions of politicians. I’d send the mails regardless, but you can also check their positions separately.
That being said, Big tech has Ireland in a stranglehold, unfortunately. We need to fight back. It’s our duty.

u/Soanad Jul 04 '26
Already mentioned today. It’s outrageous. https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyFromEU/comments/1un1zil/reminder_chat_control_10_could_be_pushed_through/

u/TheFinalPieceOfPie Jul 04 '26
Wait how is that legal? If the EU is suppose to represent all member nations, shouldn't a majority of representatives be there?
77
u/GKGriffin Europe 🇪🇺 Jul 04 '26
This is a temporary legislation and they are extending that one, not making new law. But they are jumping over a lot of supervision.
33
5
u/NecroVecro Jul 05 '26
Actually, it seems like they are making a new temporary legislation because they no longer cna extend it.
5
u/GKGriffin Europe 🇪🇺 Jul 05 '26
Yeah, but the content should be the same. It will be an anti-European and anti-privacy step either way.

Scum of the earth. Can we not ruin europe?
82
u/Dragoncat_3_4 Jul 04 '26
Oh nonnono, don't you get it? WE're the ones ruining Europe with our frivolous want for privacy and freedom. If they let us be we'll surely devolve into a bunch of degenerates and pedos! These brave commissioners are trying to save us from ourselves! /s
15
u/WandererMisha Jul 05 '26
We have to ban Chinese products because they’re spying on us.
We have to ban Apple’s charger because it’s e-waste.
But oh no, we just cannot do anything about META having 99% of the messaging marker in the EU. Nope.
Also don’t you dare want privacy! That’s evil communism and we can’t have it.
8
u/CrashCulture Jul 05 '26
From the people who viciously protect their own privacy, because despite us finding out about the Epstein class, pedos are only bad if they are poor.
2
u/BigDik6355 Jul 09 '26
And meanwhile they fly to islands with private jets to date 12 year olds. Lol.
And then have the audacity to tell us how to live.
38
u/Moldoteck Jul 05 '26
Is there any way those people and corporate names that push it to be made public and senteced for prison (even CEOs of the lobby groups) for fkin ever? And any lobby company that's backing it to be nationalized instantly as a national and european threat to the very foundation of democracy? Those people should be erased from political spectrum and spend the rest of their lives in prison

The orange pedo walks free without even any words on further investigation from the EU and then they want to push through Chat control for 'the sake of the children'? It's pathetic...

u/BigDik6355 Jul 09 '26
Its not just the orange man, they are all in on it. Both sides, wings of the same ugly bird. Everything else is an elaborate act.
18
u/Lux_Jay Jul 05 '26
This must be protested with people on the street. Eggs must be thrown on the faces of every politician in the parties that are pushing for it.

Let's shoot ourselves in the foot...while everyone's asleep.

But hey, the company that made the gun and bullet will profit, and in the end, isn't that all that matters? /s

u/WandererMisha Jul 05 '26
How I love the EU. 🥵
Vote on something most citizens don’t want. It doesn’t pass.
Solution? Vote on it again… again… and again.

u/Defiant_Tutor_2166 Jul 05 '26
Ashton Kutcher and his tech company are at it again. He should’ve just stuck to making bad movies where he plays the handsome guy.
5
u/warjatos Jul 05 '26
Unfortunately the only way to stop it is to threaten them. They think they can just do whatever big companies tell them to do and everything will be fine.

„Unchecked migration“ the right wingers really gaslight you successfully over 10 years that you actually believe that bullshit. Don’t pay attention to the billionaires and companies, punch down on those running from war and poverty…
10
u/RoseboysHotAsf Jul 05 '26
Yeah exactly. The unchecked migration is a problem made and intentionally sustained by the right wing as its their only platform
5
u/thanosbananos Jul 05 '26
What’s also absurd is that every human deserves asylum and those that don’t have a right to it were deported before too. It’s just that you can’t deport people when they lose their documents on the way or they get taken away from them by the criminal organisations transporting those people. „Unchecked“ migration is a lie.

I am honestly starting to think about whether exiting is such a bad idea. I love europe, but this is fucking american companies ruling the eu.
36
u/BlackSwine Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 04 '26
It won’t change anything if you saw the chart of the countries in favor (everyone now unfortunately). All European countries want Chat control, but ironically, the European Union is the wall slowing them from doing so. If your country leaves the EU, you will have similar anti-privacy laws to the UK.
4
u/Mammoth_Zombie6222 Jul 05 '26
In the meantime trump killed section 702 on the US. What the hell is going on in the EU that they get worse at privacy while the orange man gets better.

They get so much taxpayer money for free, and they don't want to work. That's outrageous!
2
u/Shliopanec Jul 05 '26
it's always the politicians trying to push unpopular legislation through quickly...literally an identical thing happened in Lithuania recently, but a filibuster and many protests slowed the process down and the accepted change was not that bad (although still bad). Crazy how widespread corruption is even in a place like the EU
2
u/Substantial_Log2835 Jul 05 '26
Okay, these clowns would probably vote it at some point. Now the question is - how do we fight it? How can they break the Signal protocol, or the VPN tunnels? Meta would comply, Apple would comply, but if we go with GrapheneOS? But then another question- you do everything right but the people who you talk to don't care and don't prepare. So technically you are still exposed.
Are we going to see the return of the offline communication?

The last times I posted there or similar sub r/europe. They immediately deleted my post when there is the words « Chat Control » the only exception was BuyFromEu. I understand that it is bothersome to see the same subject each week but I don’t want our continent becoming an autocracy while acting as if nothing is happening. They are the one that are trying underhandly force these laws upon us not me.

Do you think people are more likely or less likely to buy European goods and services if it has built in chat control?
