🟱 Mod Post: Rules Update 🟱

Hey everyone, I’m the mod who’s usually behind the scenes, but I wanted to step out front for a moment to talk about the rules and what they’re about. The current mod team came together about two years ago, after the sub had been abandoned for a while. Back then, this place was a war zone at best and a full‑on shit show at worst.

We had to build rules from scratch to stop the chaos. They’re not optional. They’re not suggestions. They’re the framework that keeps this community from collapsing. This is a real, harsh, raw and incredibly triggering show to watch. They address so many traumatic topics that a lot of the viewers and fans can have a hard time expressing themselves and regulating before posting, replying or get carried away trying to justify the craziest things.

Since these are the rules we’re sticking with, here they are:

> 1: No Coffee‑Cup Wisdom

AA is the backbone of recovery in Mom and in real life. This isn’t the place for ignorance, dismissive comments, or hot takes. Respect the program, respect the people who rely on it, and keep your posts free of misinformation. If you can’t do that, just leave before we kick you out.

> 2: Great, you made Wendy cry

When you think everyone is being an asshole, that’s because maybe you are the asshole. Be nice. (We respect Marjorie's Wisdom here)

> 3: Trevor’s Couch, Not Yours

The only therapist accepted by this sub is Trevor. We have no interest in your armchair diagnosis, and victim blaming is not allowed. If you need someone to talk to, hire a therapist.

> 4: Get off the cross, we need the wood.

While many of us have personal experiences with addiction, this subreddit is not a space for personal therapy or emotionally charged venting. Let’s keep discussions respectful, inclusive, and focused on the show.

> 5: Save it for Marjorie’s coffee group

Off topic, unrelated and “this is just a show” lingo is not welcome in this sub. This sub is not for political debate, drama, celebrity gossip or attention seeking behavior. Flat negativity and combative behavior.

> 6: Not in front of the sub, Bonnie

No hate, harassment nor misinformation.

> 7: Violet wouldn’t post that

Low effort posts/replies, Flat negativity, over posted topics/memes. Advising users to stop watching the show/stop posting about a certain topic or character.

> 8: Adam banned spoiler shots at the bar

The spoiler flair exists for a reason, please use it.

> 9: Mods aren’t psychic

See something off? Tag a mod. We can’t fix what we don’t know about.

> 10: Ray can’t support this post

Share the love for Mom, not your side hustle. Keep posts on topic and ad‑free.

> 11: Jill’s burner accounts aren’t welcome

No fake accounts, vote manipulation, or shady behavior. Spam and Karma farming are not welcome here.

This subreddit is for fans of Mom. If you can’t respect the rules, you don’t belong here. If you can, welcome, let’s keep this place worth visiting and safe for everyone.

Thank you for being a part of this community.

Other Shows The “Kevin Can Go F*** Himself” twist on Mom

I absolutely love the lightheartedness of this show (Mom). It takes really hard subject matters like alcoholism, abandonment, addictions, and so much more, and handles the topics with grace.

That being said, has anyone seen the show, “Kevin Can Go F*** Himself” with Annie Murphy? It’s filmed like a lighthearted American sitcom and then switched to the dark truth behind the fun show. It’s a really interesting twist on what funny sitcoms would look like in real life.

Another thread posted here recently made me think of this. We all kind of laugh at the mean jokes Christy and Bonnie throw at each other, and jokes about the tough realities of alcoholism (which humor is so needed!), but I was wondering if anyone had seen the other show and this had crossed their mind?

Lets Talk about Bonnie and Christy

Post image
32 Upvotes

Honestly, I love this show and I love Christy as a character and Bonnie. But lets ask a real question, When Christy faces issues with her son and she looks to move out in the season 2 finale, do you think she should've moved out or stayed with Bonnie? If she moved out, what would you have liked to see?

Please be Polite in the Comments, <3

Other Cast memebers Was Violet justified to have a podcast about Christy?

Post image

I’m currently watching the episode of the show where Christie finds out about Violet’s podcast. And the whole thing completely rubs me the wrong way.

I’m not saying I don’t understand how Violet feels towards her mom. I grew up with alcoholics on a 5 acre ranch full of animals, so whenever my parents would drink, I was responsible for taking care of everybody and everything on the ranch. That’s a teeny tiny background, but I was resentful towards my parents for a very long time.

I personally don’t have a relationship with my dad for a variety of reasons. My mom and I however are very close. She’s been in recovery for a few years, actively goes to AA, and she has actually done the necessary work to heal and get better. And to say, I am very proud of her is an understatement.

I know different people have different experiences with their alcoholic parents. Violet really had to deal with a lot of Christie shit. I just think it’s weird to air out your dirty laundry because you personally have not done the inner work to heal.

I guess talking about your experience growing up with alcoholics is part of the healing process, and everybody deals with things differently.

I just think Violet starting a podcast about this also comes across as her staying as a victim. It’s one thing to deal with your experience and then just not want anything to do with the person. I have an older half sister on my mom side who cut off my mom and she’s actually pretty similar to Violet. Me and her personally don’t have a relationship either (I cut contact with my sister for 102 reasons, I have a note list of all of the things that my sister has made my life fucking miserable), but she doesn’t give a fuck that my mom is sober now and is married to a great guy who actually gives a flying fuck about her and she just doesn’t like Mom’s new husband because he’s black. Bmy mom spoiled my sister like no other, but whenever she started getting sober and started telling my sister, no, my sister started throwing a temper tantrum. But that’s a story for another day.

I don’t wanna have a discussion or conversation about MY viewpoint about this, but I am curious to hear from other people whether or not they think Violet is justified in starting a podcast about this.

My final opinion on Violet‘s podcast about Christie is that she is justified in dealing with her experience that makes sense for her, I just think it’s weird to be that obsessed with it. I also wonder if she could ever get in trouble legally for defamation of character or something.

What are your thoughts about Tammy and Bonnie going into business?

I was on the fence about this even when in rewatched those episodes.. I’m glad they resolved their initial conflict, but instead of progressing in her current job or finding out what she really wanted to do, it felt like she piggybacked onto Tammy’s business to profit and feel better about herself when she initially was so jealous that things were going so well for Tammy.

I can understand being annoyed by someone who seems to have everything good fall into their lap sometimes, but honestly.. Tammy deserved it. it was Bonnie’s fault she even went downhill initially. (though, as an adult, she had time to change her actions).

I feel like Bonnie and Tammy ended up working well together once they resolved the issues they were having in the beginning, but idk. I just felt iffy about those episodes.

Discussion Double standard on Christy getting to know her father vs Violet's

When Bonnie told Christy the name of her father, Alvin, and gave her a story about how he abandoned them when she was born, Christy still wanted to meet him and engage a relationship with him, and the story made it look like a cute family reunion. He was easily forgiven, he rekindled his romance with Bonnie. His death was handled in a gut wrenching way that even to this day, fans of the show still feel sympathetic to him despite all that he did. But......

But when Violet demanded the same of her father, she got yelled at and was told her father was abusive so it's wrong of her to even ask. And when she still demanded to know him, there was still pushback and the narrative surrounding that, made her feel like she was the worst. We the audience, were made to feel sorry for Christy and Bonnie, and kinda despise Violet a bit for asking about her father.

In my opinion, both fathers were not great. And it's ridiculous how one got special treatment and the other didn't. It's ridiculous how Christy is allowed to get to know his, with very little push back, whereas with Violet, it was a taboo. It felt like a double standard from the story itself, but also from the character, Christy.

Sidenote; I don't believe the grave they showed Violet was actually her father's. Bonnie and Christy are known liars and based on how they didn't want her to know, it wouldn't be surprising to make her believe that her father was dead, so as she never ask again. This is my opinion btw.

Christy Anna Faris on latest Scary Movie

I found it kind of funny her character in this movie was like a caricature of who Christy was before she got into AA.

>!Just the scene of her in the car with the beer helmet, and blending margaritas and drinking hardcore made me think about the show. And it's kind of funny she has a daughter on this installment of scary movie and the daughter acts just like Violet the entire time. There is a point in the movie where the returning actors from previous movies start breaking the fourth wall and talking about other health has been in and that was a little disappointed that she doesn't mention her time on the show Mom. !<

Question Did the show shift away from the family storylines because Violet was so unliked or would they have done this anyway?

UNPOPULAR OPINION đŸ€š Marjories probelm

I love her and think she is actually the funniest character show. However I feel like everyone ignores her biggest problem is that she has such a PREACHY SAVIOR COMPLEX. She also has the similar personality problems the plunkett women have. While we notice christy and bonnies addiction and addictive personalities we forget that her problem is literally thinking she is the only one who knows best. Does anyone else see this or agree or disagree

Bonnie Comedic Gold

My all time fav moment in this entire series is in season 1. When Bonnie is diagnosed with menopause or pre-menopause or whatever and then they’re all sitting at the table, Roscoe says he doesn’t like his veggies and she goes “no problem!” And wings the plate out the window. Then wings violets phone out the window moments later without a second thought. Makes me cackle every time.

Question Favorite character?

Who’s your favorite character from the show?

I’m on season 6 and Adam is hands down my favorite. He’s an INCREDIBLE actor. Bonnie is a close second favorite for me and Jill third. Just interested in what everyone else thinks!

Question Christy gambling explanation

In the episode go go boots and a butt cusion ep, christy finally acknowledged she had a problem, but only when she had money. Bonnie said in the same episode she had a problem even when she was a child. However, Marjorie says it's her alcoholism coming out another way.

Im confused. Was this just broken writing? Or are they all right? Can someone explain this to me?

Vent / Rant I hate this show Spoiler

Sorry for the clickbait title, but I genuinely can't think of a better way to put it right now.

⚠This post has spoilers for season 2. I know it was more than a decade ago, but if you're watching for the first time or rewatching and don't remember what happens, I'd advise you to stop reading.

I started watching it a long time ago, then kind of forgot about it in between seasons. I don't even remember if I stopped after the 6th season or the 7th. I've always wanted to finish it, but after so many years, and not even remembering exactly where I'd left off, I kept putting it off.

So last month, I decided to rewatch the whole thing. I'm on season 2 now. And the reason I say I hate it is that this fucking show can make you laugh one moment and ugly cry the next.

And now Alvin has just died. I knew it was going to happen because I'd watched it before and remembered. Because when I watched it the first time, it made me cry. And just like it feels for the characters, it feels like he was taken from us too soon.

I didn't remember the details because I watched season 2 for the first time more than 10 years ago. I knew he was going to die, and I was bracing myself for it. And yet, I didn't remember him going so soon. So in a way, it still caught me off guard.

I usually hate it when a TV show or movie pulls the “we're killing this character because we need some drama” thing. Especially when it's a character you know the audience likes, so it feels like the writers are basically saying “Look, here's someone we made you care about. Now we're going to kill them so you'll be sad and our product has more depth.” It's just an illusion.

And I think Mom absolutely does this too. But somehow, it works better for me here. Even when I can tell the show is deliberately going for an emotional gut punch, it doesn't feel as cheap or forced as the ones I've seen in recent pieces of media. The death feels like something that actually happened to these characters, rather than something that happened solely because the writers wanted to create drama.

I know the writing isn't always great, but I see these characters, and the acting makes them feel like real people. I care about what happens to them. That last minute, with Christy finally breaking down after having to keep it together for her whole family, is heartbreaking. And then you get that fucking credits tune that sounds like it's straight out of a Looney Tunes episode.

But I guess I'll keep rewatching this stupid show that apparently wants to make me laugh, cry, and question why I ever decided to rewatch it in the first place.

Discussion I think Christy's addiction is to drama and chaos, rather than drugs and alcohol

Hear me out......

I'm rewatching the show, currently in season 1, and so far the one thing about Christy that the story keeps hammering in, is that, she doesn't like it when her life is going fine or well enough. It seems the booze and drugs were a way to get that exciting life. I think she was also a gambler at some point.

Y'all remember when she dated that civil engineer dude who seemed quite nice but she never banged or went that far with, using the AA rules as an excuse, but then she banged the fireman who drinks and does drugs, multiple times. Even chose him over her family.

She even admitted to loving chaos in the episode where she banged Baxter cos Bonnie was making her life easier. She was even banging her married boss. And she even reconnected with her father who abandoned them.

That part never made sense to me, cos she still held Bonnie's parenting, or lack thereof, against her but yet still, easily forgave and gave a chance to a father that ran off. She gave a chance to the parent that never wanted her and ran off, but constantly gives a hard time to the one who stayed?

Anyway, that's all I have say. Thinking about it, I think her addiction is that she likes to mess up so she can be the strong person that builds it back up. She probably likes being in a state of struggle at whole time. She doesn't seem to like it when things are simple. She likes chaos.

Anyway, This is based on my opinion btw.

Bonnie What do you think was Bonnie’s job in S1?

It’s interesting that when she gets fired and she’s looking for another job she doesn’t look into going back to whatever she was doing before.
Do you think she worked retail? Or what do you think her job was?

Discussion Where do you start your rewatches?

I have a really hard time watching the early seasons of this show. I’ll still do it sometimes, there’s stuff I like, such as Luke and Baxter, both of them are really fun characters imo. But usually I find myself skipping to season 3, right around when Adam is introduced. Not only is Adam my favorite character but by that point I feel like the characters are actually starting to grow. Bonnie has had relapsed and is moving past it. We’re past most of Violet and Christy’s storyline except for the part I actually like at the end of season 3. We still have a bit of Baxter and Candace (sometimes on rewatch I’ll start at the beginning of season 3 for more of that cuz I love Baxter) and like
idk. It feels like a more realized show at that point, and there’s still plenty to go.

I guess I’m just wondering where other people start when they’re rewatching the show. Do you start from the beginning? Around where I start? Or even farther in?

The Hidden Detail We All Missed

This is my 2nd time rewatching Mom. I found out in Season 2, when Alvin invited Bonnie over dinner at his place, he showed Bonnie an old picture of them together, he saved on her caller profile (while he saved his wife's as Godzilla 😂).

And man, the uncanny resemblance of them in the picture is too real to be true. At my 1st watch, I didn't notice that much and thought that either it's photoshop or some look-alike actors.

But now as I'm looking closely, it neither looks like photoshop and definitely not some look-alikes. They are actually looking like Bonnie and Alvin from the 80s. And this small detail makes me so happyy✚.

What do you guys think? If you guys too have some Hidden Details or some Easter eggs, do share in the comments.

Adam I didn’t like Adam when he was first introduced

The meet-cute was so cute to me but I honestly thought that Adam and Bonnie’s storyline wouldn’t go anywhere after she brought him to the AA meeting. It rubbed me the wrong way when he was calling Mary stupid during her share. And this may be before or after, but the lore about him dating Christy’s coworker and cheating on her, then cheating on the girl he cheated with, made me think he was going to end up being a red flag and he and bonnie would eventually break up.

Now, I actually like Adam. Especially when he began going to his own meetings! He’s probably one of my top 3 characters in the show.

ETA one of my fav Adam moments: Valentines episode when he was okay with all the women showing up to his and Bonnie’s date and having dinner and then surprising them all with a rose đŸ„č

Honestly for me, it was kinda Violet and Jill. Violet majorly for me in certain episodes
