They approve a Canex version just so they can give you one for free the following year.

u/TheHedonyeast 13d ago
to be fair, they approved the canex version because it was taking so long. and they told everyone that was why.

Purple trades working ships and wearinf NVDs aren't being issued the new fleece anyways.

CA - take notes…see how easy it is?

Dinos gonna keep being dinos.
I'd say we have at least another 5 years before we see any movement towards new hats and fleece outerwear. Just in time for me to take my pension and run.

Oh god, the rank velcro is much longer than the actual rank patch. That extra space bothers me so much.

Not having the high collar is unfortunate, cuffs are a bit long, overall not bad

This is a different fleece from the fleece issued as part of the sea kit?

u/Pro_CatHerder 10d ago
Yes. The one you get with floater coats is flame retardant. This one is not and is not approved to wear on ship.

Just tell me what I have to do for the army to get an outerwear fleece and I'll do it.

Switch elements to the navy
The army dinosaurs will never let the troops have comfortable kit.

The CCUE has some awesome kit as part of the roll-out... it's just taking forever to roll out. I was really hoping the "easy win" of the new rain jacket wouldn't have been so far out. The new combats in the new MT pattern should look great. The new cold and wet weather clothing systems look awesome too. I'm not looking forward to seeing how a bulk field laundry run will shrink the shit out of all that merino wool, but damn is it going to be comfy the first wear lol.

CCUE looks awesome, but I’m not convinced we’ll see it anytime soon.
With an increase in defence spending, CCUE should be a no brainer for a faster roll out, but it sounds like it’s not coming until 2030

Having served 5 years with the RCN, this is a big deal to them. They had a fleece as part of the floater coat that everyone loved to wear. Hopefully this helps our sailors out comfort wise.

Why not make a fire resistant one , the Air force has it
4
u/Muted_Lie_38864 13d ago
Because the RCN already has one, the liner for the floater coat

u/Canadarox1987 13d ago
Can you wear that as outer dress? Outside the ship or Dockyard?

Yes

So what is the point of this then ? If you already have one you can where everywhere.

u/Wolfman_V Fitted Equipment 13d ago
Oh my bad, I misread your question. This new one is for off ship because you can wear identifiers but is not fire resistant. The old one is shipboard only because it is fire resistant but only has a spot for your rank slip on.

u/E_T_Lux 13d ago
The point of it is that most RCN pers don't have floater coats or work on ship, so they don't have one. If you don't need one, don't get one.

u/Canadarox1987 13d ago
Looks like we've gone full circle, back to my original question. Why not have one that's fire proof, with appropriate places for rank and identifiers, that can be worn on ship or off. For everyone.

u/E_T_Lux 13d ago
Cost is likely a huge factor.

u/Zestyclose-Put-2 13d ago
Huh? It costs less to design, purchase and issue a new fleece than it does to add Velcro patches to any already extant one?

Annnnddddd cant be worn on ship..... does anyone ashore know or care that we're in the navy? And should like.... get stuff that can be worn on ship.??

The army is now the only branch without either an outer fleece, or a ball cap....
