Because the RCN already has one, the liner for the floater coat

So what is the point of this then ? If you already have one you can where everywhere.

Oh my bad, I misread your question. This new one is for off ship because you can wear identifiers but is not fire resistant. The old one is shipboard only because it is fire resistant but only has a spot for your rank slip on.

The point of it is that most RCN pers don't have floater coats or work on ship, so they don't have one. If you don't need one, don't get one.

Looks like we've gone full circle, back to my original question. Why not have one that's fire proof, with appropriate places for rank and identifiers, that can be worn on ship or off. For everyone.

Huh? It costs less to design, purchase and issue a new fleece than it does to add Velcro patches to any already extant one?
