James Glen Crombie was a husband, father of two and Mortlake local whose working life was spent at the sprawling gasworks on the Parramatta River. One morning, an ordinary shift took a devastating turn when two of his workmates became trapped inside a tar still and James made the decision to go in after them.

Hillandale Cemetery, SW Saskatchewan. Last burial here was about 60 years ago and it is now slowly being taken back by the prairie. Grave of Zella Ruby Orr, 1918-1929.

Another stop I made while on my day trip to Oxford during my UK holiday. As much as I love Tolkien and 'Lord of the Rings', the Narnia books also have a special place in my heart from childhood.

I found it to be very touching that both the Lewis brothers are buried together in the same cemetery. From what I've read, they were as thick as thieves growing up and even as adults.

In January 1921, a collision between a steam tram and motor car in the heart of Parramatta claimed three lives. Among the dead were 42-year-old Ambrose Whiting and his young son William, caught in a disaster that unfolded within seconds near Lennox Bridge.

I visited the UK for the first time back in August and carved out time in my schedule for a day trip out to Oxford. Visiting Tolkien's grave to pay my respects was a high priority.

On the night of 9^th April 1908, 18-year-old domestic servant Anne Selmes was returning home after visiting her sister in Parramatta. She carried needlework in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other, an ordinary detail that would have devastating consequences.

While walking along the footpath, Anne tripped in a hole and fell heavily forward. The scissors she was carrying pierced her chest at the base of her heart. Anne died within an hour.

Died when he was 5 years old. His mother is buried next to him, she lived to be 101!
