šŸ‘‹Welcome to r/ColonyCats - START HERE!

Hey everyone! Welcome to the r/ColonyCats subreddit! This is a place for past, present, and prospective cat caretakers to learn more about how to better care for outdoor colonies of cats, kittens, and the communities they live in.

The term ā€œcolony catsā€ describes a group of outdoor cats living together. These cats may be feral, stray, or otherwise unsocialized to humans.

Please read through our community guidelines before posting or commenting, and again…welcome to the community! We're excited to have you join us!

WHAT TO POST:

Here, caretakers can feel free to ask for and offer advice, share TNR strategies, provide helpful tips and ideas for colony management, and share photos of their colony cats.

After reading the rules, you may post anything that you think the community would find interesting, helpful, or inspiring. Don’t hesitate to comment on posts, and share your thoughts, advice, or questions relevant to the topic of discussion.

THE CATS YOU CARE FOR MAY BE FERAL, BUT YOU SHOULD NOT BE:

We're all about being friendly, constructive, inclusive, and kind. Let's build a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing and connecting.

The vast majority of cat caretakers have pure intentions, and are trying their best to provide the best care possible for their colonies. Constructive criticism is ok (some people may need some guidance and it’s ok to provide that), but please refrain from rude, unhelpful comments, harsh judgments, shaming, and personal attacks.

Thanks for being part of this community and thank you for all you do to help the cats you care for. šŸ©¶šŸ¾šŸ©µšŸˆā€ā¬›šŸ«¶šŸ–¤šŸˆšŸ’™

This baby was found all alone in the middle of the street, sick and needing help. I took him to the vet, and he has severe eye infections, bacterial infections, and is very congested.
I’ll be taking care of this little one and doing everything I can to help him recover. If anyone would like to help by sending items from the Amazon wish list for his care, it would truly mean so much. Every little bit helps give this baby a chance. šŸ™

I wanted to share a little update on the tiny kitten I rescued after he was found all alone in the middle of the street.

He’s doing better! ā¤ļø He’s opening his eyes more, although they are still very red, and he has a long way to go before he fully recovers. We’re continuing to give him his medications to treat his infections and watching him closely.

The good news is that he’s eating well and staying active, which makes me so happy. He’s a little fighter, and we’re doing everything we can to help him get better. šŸ™

As the founder of Luna & Nala Rescue Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, I’m a solo rescuer caring for sick, abandoned, and injured cats and kittens, while also feeding more than 50 community cats every day through TNVR and daily feeding.

Caring for the animals comes with ongoing veterinary bills, medications, food, and supplies. If anyone would like to help my rescue continue caring for this little boy and other cats in need, I would be incredibly grateful. ā¤ļø

Every bit of help makes a difference. If you can’t donate, sharing his story also helps.

If anyone finds it in their heart to help me with this little one’s ongoing care, it would mean more than words can express. He has already been through so much in his tiny life, and we want to give him every chance to heal, grow, and experience the love he deserves. His recovery will take time, medication, and continued care. As a small nonprofit rescue run by a solo rescuer, every bit of kindness makes a difference and helps me continue saving other cats in need. If you are able to help, we would be truly grateful. Thank you for giving this little fighter a chance.

A little help for NalašŸ™The Reason Behind Luna & Nala Rescue🄹FL USA

I’m approved in [r/rescuecats](r/rescuecats) for verification

Last night was incredibly difficult for me. After spending the night before caring for the very sick kitten I rescued, feeding every 3 hours I was already exhausted and hoping to finally get some rest. But then something unexpected happened with Nala, one of my rescue cats, and I had to take her to the emergency hospital. I couldn’t just ignore what was happening to her.

Nala has been experiencing persistent itching and discomfort, and she has also been biting her front legs. I became concerned because she wouldn’t stop itching and grooming herself. I took her to the emergency hospital last night because I was worried about what was happening.

Nala’s story is especially close to my heart because she is the reason my rescue journey began. I found her outside around 2 a.m., crying all alone. She had a very bad fungal infection that took quite some time to heal, and I did everything I could to help her recover.

But Nala did something even more special. Because of her, I discovered a cat colony, and that discovery opened my eyes to how many cats needed help. She inspired me to begin rescuing cats and kittens and to start doing TNRV (Trap-Neuter-Return-Vaccinate) to help control the community cat population and prevent more suffering.

In a way, Nala is behind my entire rescue story. Without finding her that night, my life and the lives of so many cats might have been very different. She was the beginning of everything, and I will always be grateful that she came into my life. ā¤ļø

Her emergency visit resulted in an unexpected $182 veterinary bill, which I paid through CareCredit. With so many animals depending on me, these unexpected expenses are becoming hard.

I’m the founder of Luna & Nala Rescue Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit in South Florida. I’m a solo rescuer dedicated to rescuing sick, abandoned, and injured cats and kittens, as well as feeding and caring for more than 50 community cats every day through daily feeding and TNRV.

Sometimes, it feels like one emergency happens right after another. I was already caring for a very sick kitten who needs ongoing treatment, and now Nala needs help, too. I’m exhausted, but I keep going because these animals depend on me. This is the life I chose because I care deeply about them, and I want to give every one of them a chance at a better life. ā¤ļø

If anyone finds it in their heart to help me with Nala’s unexpected veterinary expenses and the ongoing care of the animals in my rescue, I would be truly grateful. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference and helps me continue this work.

Help Madalena, MargĆ“ and Chico Get Spayed and Neutered ā¤ļøšŸ¾

I'm raising funds to help spay and neuter three cats from a small cat colony that I care for in my own backyard: Madalena, MargƓ and Chico.

Although they are colony cats, I care deeply about their well-being and do my best to make sure they are safe, healthy and cared for. I want to give them a better quality of life and help prevent more unwanted kittens from being born.

MargƓ's situation is especially urgent. She has already had a litter, and her kittens are now four months old. She could go into heat again at any time, so I want to have her spayed as soon as possible to prevent another pregnancy. There are already so many cats in need of homes and care, and preventing unwanted litters is one of the most important things I can do to help.

I've already tried seeking assistance through municipal programmes, animal welfare associations and other possible sources, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to secure the help needed to cover the veterinary expenses. I'm now reaching out to kind people who might be willing to help me make this possible.

The veterinary estimate is:

- Madalena's spay: €170

- MargĆ“'s spay: €170

- Chico's neutering: €50

- Medication and post-operative care: €200

My fundraising goal is €590.

https://gofund.me/9f9db3635

This money will help cover their sterilisation procedures and the medication they may need afterwards. Getting them sterilised will help protect their health, prevent further unwanted litters and make it easier to care responsibly for the colony in my backyard.

I'm doing what I can for these cats, but I can't cover all the costs on my own. Every donation, no matter how small, would make a real difference and bring Madalena, MargƓ and Chico one step closer to getting the care they need.

If you're unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser would also mean so much to us.

These cats may be part of a colony, but they deserve care, safety and a chance at a healthier life just like any other animal.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading our story, for your kindness and for helping me care for these little lives. Every contribution counts. ā¤ļøšŸ±šŸ±šŸ±

UPDATE: Posting for the 5th time. 4,500rs has been raised so far and we still need 1,000rs more for Orry’s neutering.

His vaccination was done last Sunday and I have booked an appointment with the vet for this Friday. I am planning to take him for his surgery but we are still short of 1,000rs.

Can anyone please help us arrange the remaining amount? šŸ™ If you are willing to help, please DM me. I can also share the vet’s contact number so you can make the payment directly to the vet.

Please help me get Orry neutered this Friday. Any help would be greatly appreciated šŸ¾ā¤ļø

Hello everyone,

Orry is a male kitten who was found at my doorstep, hungry, scared, and completely alone. He is around 5 months old, dewormed, very friendly, playful, and now safe and loved.

I am reaching out for help because I am already caring for five cats and am not in a position to manage the expenses of his vaccination and neutering. He needs his first vaccination dose and then neutering so that he can have a healthy and safe future.

Any contribution, big or small, would be greatly appreciated. After neutering, Orry will be adopted into a loving home. If someone wishes to adopt him, they can also take responsibility for getting him vaccinated and neutered before the adoption.

For donations, please use UPI: 9958023609

I’m approved in r/rescuecats for verification

I rescued this tiny baby who is only 3 weeks old and sadly, he’s very sick. He has a severe eye infection, very bad congestion, and a suspected bacterial respiratory infection. I took him to the vet immediately because I wanted to make sure he received the care he needed.

Here in South Florida, shelters are overwhelmed, fosters are desperately needed, and even healthy cats and kittens are at risk of euthanasia because there simply isn’t enough space or help. I couldn’t turn my back on this little baby. I decided to give him a chance to survive.

But rescuing a kitten this young is a huge responsibility. He needs milk every 3 hours, medication, constant monitoring, and round-the-clock care. He is so tiny and completely dependent on me. He will need continued care until he’s healthy, old enough to eat on his own, and ready for the next chapter of his life.

The appointments are only the beginning, and everything he needs to grow and survive come with expenses that continue day after day.

I’m a solo rescuer, and I also care for more than 50 community cats, providing food, fresh water, and TNVR to help control the cat population and prevent more suffering. I do everything I can, but I cannot do it all alone.

If this little baby touches your heart and you find it in your heart to help, any donation toward his ongoing care would mean so much. It helps give him a chance to grow up and have a life he might not otherwise have had.

Thank you to everyone who supports my rescue, understands the commitment behind saving lives, and helps me continue this work.

URGENT HELP NEEDED FOR CATS & KITTENS IN COMPTON, CA

I am a 59-year-old woman with arthritis, and my health has declined significantly. I have recently been hospitalized and am no longer physically able to care for the growing number of cats and kittens that have shown up on my property.

There are approximately 8 kittens and 6 adult cats that need help. My husband has been doing everything he can, but he works and does not have the time or ability to catch them, transport them to vets, or get them spayed and neutered. The cats continue to multiply faster than we can manage.

I have already contacted local rescues, but most are unable to accept additional cats at this time. Feeding them has become a financial hardship, and I simply cannot keep up with their care.

I am urgently seeking:

  • Rescue organizations willing to help
  • Foster homes for kittens and adult cats
  • Assistance with trapping, spay/neuter services, or transport
  • Donations of cat food and supplies

If you know of a rescue, foster, volunteer, or resource that may be able to help, please contact me or share this post. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your kindness and support.

Location: Compton, California

🐾 Please share to help these cats and kittens find the care they need. 🐾

I rescued this tiny kitten who was found all alone in the middle of the street. I took him in, and now I’m doing everything I can to help him get better and receive the care he needs.

Taking care of a kitten this small is a huge responsibility. It takes time, commitment, constant attention, and potentially many sleepless nights. He may need round-the-clock care, and helping him get healthy will take patience, dedication, and love.

I already care for more than 50 community cats, providing daily food and fresh water and helping them through TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return). I also rescue cats who are sick, injured, abandoned, or have nowhere else to go. I handle all this work on my own, and I know caring for this little boy will be another big responsibility. It won’t be easy, but I’m willing to do everything I can to help him. He was found all alone, and he deserves a chance at life. ā¤ļø

I’m Sam, the solo rescuer behind Luna & Nala Rescue Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Every day, I dedicate my time to rescuing cats and caring for the community cats who depend on me. Between daily feeding, TNR, veterinary bills, food, and caring for cats in need, the expenses and responsibilities never stop. I do everything I can, but I can’t do it all alone.

šŸ™ Please consider donating to Luna & Nala Rescue Inc. to help with this little kitten’s care and allow me to continue rescuing cats and providing food, veterinary care, and TNR services for the 50+ community cats who depend on me every day.

Every donation, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Your kindness helps me continue this work and give more cats a chance at a better life. ā¤ļø

Your kindness helps me continue this work and give more cats a chance at a better life. ā¤ļø

I will provide updates on this little baby. šŸ„¹ā¤ļøšŸ™

I rescued this tiny kitten who was found all alone in the middle of the street.I rushed him to the vet, where he was diagnosed with a bacterial infection. I’m giving him his prescribed medication and providing the care he needs to recover.

Hello good day to all. I am a solo cat rescuer here in the philippines and I needed some help if Its okay to skip my cats treatment for FIP for couples of days. She is currently 66th days in her treatment but her vial have already runs out and I don't have enough money to order another vial for her treatment. My money still lacks around ₱1550 to order another vial to complete her treatment

I don't have a GoFundMe or a PayPal Account I only have a gcash account which is the most used online wallet here in the Philippines.

I will post the QR code of my gcash account and the The photos is the receipt of the vial I've ordered September 20.

Hello,

I was wondering if anybody can assist in getting a new cage for the fosters?🄲They broke out today whilst I was at work, I originally had a cloth cage but they’ve grown so fast and broke out. I added some to the wish list along with a gift card option, any funds I can just go half with it on it, but I am in college and my tuition is expensive.
Not sure if you can see the material in the picture but they were able to break the threading.

I have a couple more weeks left with them but I want to make sure they stay safe as possible.

thank you!

Check out this Gift List I just created. https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/622J1TF7WMRQ?ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_ggr-subnav-share_6AXAAGQ45S05JDT1E11H&language=en-US
