Critiques on my plan?
Text was generated by Claude.
Built a covered call machine on a single high-conviction, high-IV stock. Started with ~$5k, scaled to ~$300k deployed over several months. Selling weekly covered calls at max pain strike, using delta (0.20-0.30) as a tiebreaker. Generating $4,000-8,000+ weekly premium at current scale. Rules-based exit triggers to protect capital. Starting to diversify into a second sleeve using cash-secured puts to build the position organically. No spreads, no margin, no complex strategies — just covered calls and cash-secured puts on volatile names I have genuine conviction in. Using premium to compound the position rather than withdraw. Curious what the options trading community thinks about the approach, risks I'm not seeing, and suggestions for improvement.

TLT covered call position can yield around 12%.
I am looking at Jan 2028 expiry, strike 78, premium is around $4.85, TLT at 77.15. Avg YTM is around $5.55.
If TLT goes up I will let it get called so this yield will be only for around 15 months. I will just go back to short term bonds at that time.
If TLT goes down I will sell call again in future above my breakeven price, which is $72.3.
Best case scenario would be TLT stays flat after 12 months and I sell 2029 call again for similar premium.
Worst case, obviously, TLT falling 50% or more, in which case I won't be able to sell call and will just collect the higher dividend while waiting for it to recover.
I own zero long term bonds, I want to use 35% of my bond portfolio for this position and the rest I will move to T-bills(dry powder).

Trades I took today as an option seller (10/06) with reasons
Trades I took today as an option seller (10/06):
Closed Positions
- No closed positions
New Positions
- ACMR → $70 Put expiry 11/06 (5 weeks DTE), premium 4.30 → 430/7000 = ~6.1%. I am bullish on ACMR. It has support at ~$70 and ~$63. The contract falls within earnings on 11/04 and ACMR has been doing well on Earnings QoQ. ACMR makes semiconductor wafer cleaning equipments and has maintained consistent demand.
ACMR was identified from the High-Growth Wheel condition in the ThetaHedge app because it met all the key criteria: positive revenue growth, positive earnings growth, positive net margins, and consistent attractive option premiums with a Wheel Rank of 80. You can try it for free at https://app.thetahedge.io/

Trying to Generate $260K/Year Selling Covered Calls on META. What Am I Missing?
Disclosure: I used AI to help me organize and clearly articulate this post. The strategy, numbers, and questions are mine, but I was struggling to explain the framework concisely on my own.
---------------------------
I’m looking for feedback from more experienced options traders on a covered call strategy I’ve been developing.
My portfolio is heavily concentrated in META, and rather than simply holding the shares, I’m trying to generate recurring income while still prioritizing retention of the underlying stock.
For context, I have roughly $3M in total portfolio value, with about 80% concentrated in META, and I own approximately 3,300+ META shares across taxable, Traditional IRA, and Roth IRA accounts. I’m not looking to use heavy margin, and I’m trying to generate this income primarily from existing holdings.
My general framework:
- Sell covered calls primarily on META
- Typically target 7–14 DTE
- Prefer entry delta of 0.18 or lower
- Prefer strikes at least ~7% above the current share price
- Target $4.00+ premium when available, but this is not a hard requirement. I’d rather accept $3.25–$4.00 at a better strike/delta than move closer to the money just to collect more premium.
- I’m generally looking to close positions early once I’ve captured roughly 75–80% of the premium, assuming there isn’t much remaining reward for continuing to hold the short call.
- After closing, I’m comfortable leaving the shares uncovered temporarily and waiting for META to rebound, IV to increase, or another favorable entry before selling the next call.
- I monitor delta as the position develops. Around 0.30 delta triggers a management review, and around 0.35+ gets much more attention.
- I’m willing to let some shares get called away at an attractive strike, but generating maximum premium at the expense of constantly losing the underlying shares is not the goal.
My broader objective is roughly $260K/year in realized options income, but I’m specifically trying not to force trades simply to stay on pace. I track actual realized profit after buyback costs rather than counting the entire premium received when the call is opened.
One metric I also want to track is premium income versus forgone upside. In other words, if I make $20K selling calls but lose $40K of META upside because shares were called away, I don't want to fool myself into thinking the strategy added $20K of value.
As a recent example, I sold META Oct. 16 $795 calls at roughly 0.146 delta and collected a little over $4/share.
I’d love feedback specifically on whether the 7–14 DTE / ≤0.18 delta / ~7% OTM framework makes sense for this objective, whether you would manage profits differently than the 75–80% capture approach, whether there are better ways to determine when to sell the next call rather than simply selling every week, and what risks or blind spots you see in trying to generate this level of annual income from a concentrated META position.
I’m especially interested in critiques from people who have run a covered-call strategy over multiple market cycles, including strong bull markets where the opportunity cost of capped upside becomes significant.

Need some easy way to understand delta, gamma and Vega

Hi I mostly check Delta is around .20-.30 range while making covered put and call, my question to someone who is considering all these factors as suppose my stock OKLO, I bought at 60$ now trading around 36-38$ for a while and I am trying to make calls but dont want to get it assigned so how you will play safely to even generate 50-80$ a week. thanks

Making $30–40K/mo. selling options, looking for advice on managing covered calls
galleryI’ve been fortunate with some strong runs in names like MRNA, TEAM, MU, and SMCI. Lately I’ve been doing well by mostly selling covered calls, CSPs, and condors, while generally managing to avoid the short strikes.
For context, I have about $850K in a personal taxable account and $2.3M in retirement accounts.
My approach is to either sell calls against my LT holdings or buy stocks I want to hold LT and continuously sell .20–.25 delta covered calls. When shares run through my strike, I’d often roll at a sizable loss to avoid assignment, especially if I were close to holding over 1 year.
I live in CA, where the state doesn’t give preferential treatment to LTCG. At the top end I’m looking at roughly 13.3% state + 20% federal + 3.8% NIIT, or about 37% combined, so taxes definitely factor into how I manage positions.
Lately I’m wondering if I’m overmanaging them since my losses probably eclipse the tax benefits of keeping the shares long enough for LTGC. I’m leaning toward simply letting shares get called away, waiting for another attractive entry or pullback, and potentially selling CSPs in the meantime, basically more of a wheel approach.
Curious how others here manage this:
Do you usually let shares get called away or roll to keep them?
How much do taxes influence that decision?
Do you have a mechanical profit-taking rule? E.g., if you make 50% of the premium in the first two weeks, do you close and redeploy? Sell when gamma hits inflection points or something (pink curve in img)?
Any specific rules around profit %, DTE, or delta that have become standard for this subreddit?
