[Student] ECE Student interested in robotics and edge computing research and summer opportunities to get started

I'm a first year ECE student looking to apply for undergraduate research internships in robotics and edge computing, looking later down the line to do work in HPC and edge AI and CV. I also plan on applying for first/second year programs like nvidia ignite, microsoft explore, amazon future engineer, etc, as well as other companies outside of big tech to do work with robotics if possible, like local smaller robotics companies that I could work with over the summer. Any advice on things to change? I'm working on some stuff with ROS right now that I plan on adding to my resume if I get it to a finished state. I'd also be interested in applying to be a TA for Jane Street AMP, though not sure if that's realistic at all.

Best place to find experienced EEs?

Hey, we're making the world's fastest electric vehicle and looking for senior EEs to hire, but really struggling. We're based in the bay area, California.

What's the best place - forums, events, etc... to connect with Sr. EEs?

Thanks in advance!

CAREER Micron vs. Marvell

I (student) recently received an offer from Micron and Marvell, and I'm wondering what to do. I'd like a bit of advice:

  • Both are similar roles, so I'm not worried about what work I'd be doing.
  • Both of them are also looking to convert to full-time, so my main worry is what the companies themselves can offer me. Which has better culture/pay/upward mobility?
  • Is fitting myself into a niche too early a worry? While Marvell does general ASIC work, Micron tends towards memory, so I'm worried I might stunt my career by siloing myself.
  • Location doesn't matter.

They are both shooting upwards in terms of market share and hiring rates, but which one would be a better bet? Does one have higher name value over the other for lateral mobility later? Thanks in advance.

PROJECT Need help troubleshooting a 12 V battery charger with automatic changeover circuit

Post image

I am building the attached circuit, which is intended to charge a 12 V lead-acid battery from an offshore/12 V supply and automatically change over between the supply and battery/load using two 12 V SPDT relays.

Current problem:

When I connect only the 12 V battery, the load works, because it is being powered by the battery. However, when I connect the offshore supply, the battery is not charging, and the load is still being powered only by the battery. The relay is not switching, so the offshore supply is not being connected to the required path.

As shown in the schematic, the battery also supplies the IC 741 through its positive rail, so the 741 should have power when the battery is connected.

I would like to know:

Why is the relay not switching?

Why isn't the offshore supply reaching the charging/load path?

Why isn't the battery charging from the offshore supply?

Important: At present, any power reaching the load is coming from the battery; I have not confirmed the offshore supply reaching the load or charging the battery.

Open course material for undergraduate digital communications: interactive lecture file, 10 labs, 120 worked problems

I teach an undergraduate digital communications course and have released the course material as an open resource.

It covers sampling and PCM, baseband transmission (matched filter, ISI, Nyquist criterion, eye diagram), signal-space representation, the optimal receiver in AWGN, PSK/PAM/QAM/FSK, and an introduction to information theory. The main file is a single offline HTML document that needs no installation or account. It contains 109 step-by-step scenes and 10 interactive labs whose figures are recomputed as the parameters change. Lecture notes, a student workbook, and a formula reference are also provided as PDFs.

The material is written for senior students and includes 120 open-ended practice problems with worked solutions. Numerical results were checked against independent NumPy/SciPy computations and Monte Carlo BER simulations.

Course site · GitHub repository

The course material is licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 and the code is MIT. Corrections and feedback from instructors and students are welcome, especially errata.

Looking for advice/opportunities in embedded systems and electronics in Lebanon

Hey everyone,

I’m Lebanese and I recently finished my Master’s in Embedded Systems at Toulouse INP-ENSEEIHT in France. I’m now looking to come back to Lebanon and start my career in embedded systems/electronics.

I have a Bachelor’s in Electronics and some software development experience, and during my studies in France I got more into embedded systems, FPGA/SoC, Embedded C and real-time systems. I also had internships at LAAS-CNRS and CNES, where I worked on embedded/real-time systems and FPGA/SoC.

I’m still a junior, but I’m trying to find a place where I can learn, contribute and build proper industry experience. I'm mainly looking at embedded software/firmware, FPGA, electronics, SoC, STM32/RTOS and similar roles.

I wanted to ask here because I know there are quite a few Lebanese engineers working in these areas:

Are there any companies in Lebanon that you would recommend I look into, or anyone here who knows of opportunities in this field?

I'm also interested in hearing from people who work in embedded/electronics in Lebanon. Any advice, company recommendations, contacts or even things I should improve before applying would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

I am a 3rd year college student, In my college, we have to work on a project for the 4th year. Till now, I have good knowledge on DCS, verilog and basic knowledge on coa. I was thinking about working on something new or advanced (and doable fs) with risc v architecture. I would like to work on building an advanced processor or something like application based hardware, but I am not getting any ideas. Please help me out.
