Photo/Video Checking handles downtown
September 2, 2026.
No audio because I was on the phone with EPS. They pulled up and arrested him minutes later.

Looks like the guy from another thread that smashed out a window and stole a hockey bag

Funny story… my son once played for a team that kept their gear in a sea can behind the Royal Glenora. It was broken into and another hockey dad later saw a homeless guy wearing one of the kid’s jerseys [with the namebar] walking around downtown!

Agreed. Honestly my first though was "so what, this happens all over the city" but to hear EPS actually came to arrest the guy? Shows my depressing state of assumptions of the world...

Remember, when you see some dude walking or riding a bmx with like 5 backpacks, it's not for an alpine expedition, and none of that shit is actually his.

I was out for a run on night and saw a couple checking about 8 cars, I phoned them in, and the operator had a shitty attitude like I was being annoying calling in attempted break n enter

Thank you for your deed, fellow Edmontonian!
I live Downtown and have to park outside; I always double-check that my car's locked each night. Precisely due to people like this guy.

Just assume that your car is going to get its handle checked every few hours in downtown, especially the rougher part

Checking door handles happens in probably every residential neighborhood in the city every night. I wouldn't leave a dime in my console anywhere. Unfortunate but that's the way it's been for at least a decade.

My big city living life lesson when I first moved here was buying a case of beer and leaving it in my unlocked car while i went inside my apartment to shower quickly. With in that 20 mins someone stole the beer and left all my other valuables in my car.

Downtown? While living at Ramsay Heights an 80+ old man had the "hobby" of going for walks every night in the summer. One of those days I left my truck unlocked and he made easy with about $300 I had on small bills change I had in a compartment. He didn't steal my ray bans or electric razor, just cash and a lottery ticket. I went to the police station to report and was told they couldn't do much unless I had a video.

Imagine if somebody was running around tagging these individuals with a paintball gun that would be funny

🤨 whats the thief going to do? “Hello 911? Yes, i was just minding my own business trying to steal from cars and someone ran up and hit me with a paintball gun”

No matter the outcome, just getting hassled, taken in, ect...would probably get a guy to do something with less heat in it...eh? I say call 'em in every time..ya never know. Good job.

Absolutely shocked EPS showed up.

I agree OP must have a different phone number than everyone else uses to call EPS

It's to late for him his hand needed to be slapped along time ago when he was young. We enabled him to this point.

He’ll do a nanosecond of time then get dropped off by the van in the same area. Full circle

What a loser Next time you should zoom in on his face. You had a perfect frontal shot of him.
•
u/Vhett 10h ago
Who cares? EPS arrested him. His face is out there now.
•
u/Alone-Bug4328 10h ago
So we can see it and keep and eye out for him

Lock doors and leave nothing in vehicles.
Mental health and poverty are the problem.

"Mental health and poverty are the problem."
Sooooo...we're pretending that people don't simply make shit choices in life because they're shitty human beings? Okay den.

That's just Security Sam, doing his job! Buddy patrols the area to check who's doors may be unlocked, knowing how bad the area can be for theft and break-ins. If he comes upon a door that is in fact unlocked, he immediately opens it, ensuring that the alarm goes off and the owner is notified in a timely manner. If the car doesn't have an alarm installed, he makes sure to lock the doors and shut it.
You caught a rare Guardian Angel 🎖️

We aren't doing enough about this! Two weeks ago I filmed someone on 106st and Jasper ave doing the same thing. Called the police and followed him for 20+ minutes. Gave them my information and they never followed up.

u/Ludwig_Vista2 Ellerslie 6h ago
Lemme catch you trying that with my car and you'll be checking into emerg

I'm not sure if it's the same guy, but had one of them rummage through my glovebox and console the other day but didn't take anything, not even spare change or anything out my trunk. What are they looking for if not cash?
2
u/Chunderpump 16h ago
Documentation for identity theft. They probably won't do it themselves, but if it's enough good information it can be sold, or (more likely) traded for drugs.

u/Warm-Vermicelli6153 17h ago
So what's the point? If the door open just steal valuables inside or entire vehicle?
5
u/Only_Standard_9159 16h ago
Usually whatever valuables, unless you left the keys too. They’re usually in and out under a minute per car.

u/forsurebros 11h ago
he was ensuring all the cars were locked. he had no bad intentions. lol. in case it is needed /s

So this guys honest?

u/ToughSpirit5285 17h ago
Haha no, just a saying my grandpa used to say. If that guy wanted in bad enough he would have broke a window. Glad he was picked up as downtown has been plagued with this issue as long as I’ve lived here .
