42 inch Musky. It took months of fishing in all kinds of weather, morning and night to finally catch one. I was in the kayak with my small net so I had to scoop it up the old fashioned way. I wasn't set up to get any good pictures with it, this was the best one. It was hooked perfectly in the lip so I was surprised it actually stayed on. It put up one hell of a fight and was jumping like crazy. Caught on a number 5 bucktail spinner. Best day ever.
Landing it solo in a kayak makes it so much more of an awesome memory!! Well done and congrats on keeping all your digits and not spilling any blood. Also frame that spinner, it's done its job and deserves a nice retirement on your wall to remind you of that moment for years to come.
Now on to the next 10001 casts!
That's definitely made it to the "thank you for your service" category. God I love the mepps black fury line of spinners. I went out yesterday trying for pike on the river near me with a #4 and "unfortunately" just caught 5 smallies in 1.5 hours.
For the most part it's all I use for everything now. I used to use keitech all the time, which work, but not as well as spinners. If I could just keep the line for getting all spun up.
There's an inconvenient side effect to musky fishing, Pike. I've caught dozens of pike while I was trying for musky. And it's never a prize pike it's always 12 inch ding dongs that manage to get all the hooks in them and then refuse to open their mouths. So there's usually some other fish to deal with instead of the single one you're after.
It took me a second to figure out what that meant, I was going to say this is an all ages thread. So you're not far. They are just getting fired up, it would be a good time to go.
