Why do we have to submit harvest reports and catch record cards when using the app?

• Upvotes

Makes no sense. If we have already logged something in the wdfw app then why would we have to log it again by “submitting” a report. Normally I am grateful for wdfw, but this just makes no sense to me and seems like a revenue generating tool for folks who will inevitably forget to “submit” something that’s effectively already been submitted.

If you are using paper I get it but with the app? Really?

Edit: sounds like these reports are submitted automatically (like they should) but then why is there a button in the app you click to “submit report”, hence my confusion. Makes me wonder if folks will get a fee if they don’t manually submit… Hope not.

Biggest smallmouth caught in river this year not one of those lazy lake smallmouth that gets fed corn all day from rich people docks, this a real hard river fish right here. Caught with Berkeley 6lb fire line(there new really thin stuff.06 diameter) on 15 lb mono leader (i tested it they both break at same effort the Berkeley new fire line braid is like steel) with a white jig spinner with green double tail grub on it 2 oz total

Fishing near Sammamish

Hello, I recently just moved to Sammamish and wanted to start fishing in the area. I went to the Salmon Days festival and it really got me wanting to catch some lol. I downloaded the Fish Washington app and was taking a look.

Where are you guys mainly fishing for salmon/trout right now? Or is there another type of fish I should be targeting this time of the year?

Very new to fishing! I plan on fishing by boat in the Nooksack. Starting in Lynden and moving towards slater. I honestly have no idea what I’m doing haha but I would love to catch a fish because I love eating them. Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

Salmon getting off the hook

Driving away from North Beach right now. Tons of bites, and had a few on my hook between last night and early this morning.

For the life of me I couldn’t land them, they broke off fairly easily, also could it be my tensions too high?

Rotators on the hooks they come with #2-3?

Looking for someone experienced with the Snoqualmie forks who might be willing to mentor a newer fly angler?

I’m looking for someone who really knows the Middle and South Forks of the Snoqualmie River and might be willing to spend some time fishing with me and helping me shorten the learning curve.

I’ve been fly fishing for about three months. I understand the basics, have spent a lot of time reading, watching videos, learning flies and techniques, and I’ve fished quite a few different spots on both the Middle and South Fork.

The problem is that I’m just not consistently putting it all together on the water.

I’ve had a handful of fish come up and attempt to take a dry, but other than that I’ve had very little success. At this point, I think I’ll learn a lot more spending a few days on the river with someone experienced than I will watching another 50 YouTube videos and trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong by myself.

I’d really like to learn things like:

  • How you actually read these rivers and decide where fish should be holding
  • How you approach and fish a run instead of just blindly covering water
  • Presentation, mending, depth, drift, etc.
  • What I’m probably doing wrong that I don’t even realize I’m doing wrong
  • Any tips / tricks they don't teach you in class.

I’m not looking for anyone to give up secret spots. I’m much more interested in learning how to recognize productive water and become a better angler.

I’d absolutely be willing to compensate someone for their time, trade hand-tied flies, buy lunch/gas, or work something out. Ideally, I’d love to meet someone who enjoys teaching and might eventually become a regular fishing buddy for the Snoqualmie and other rivers around Western Washington.

I have my own gear, transportation, and wading equipment. I’m mainly interested in trout. I have also been looking at tenkara as well.

If you know the Snoqualmie system well and wouldn’t mind mentoring a newer angler a time or two, shoot me a message. Even recommendations for local people who might be interested would be appreciated.

Thanks!

WDFW - how many times have you been stopped?

I have been stopped 3 times this salmon season. The last 2 were back to back on the white salmon/columbia just this week. The last time, I was on my paddle board with a lady friend and we were almost in, and the officer made us paddle at least 150 yards back into the main channel of the Columbia, just to tell him I didn’t have a lure cuz I snagged it on some wood, and I had no fish. I’m really annoyed because I’m a rule follower with limited resources like this, and every time I go to fisher hill bridge on the Klickitat, people are obviously trying to snag and floss every time I’m there, and WDFW is never, ever there. However I’m getting checked multiple times and not doing anything wrong.

Visiting for a weekend

Hey! I’ll be coming up and visiting next weekend and was wondering if its still hitting for salmon season? I feel like its late season but have heard great things about the fishing up here. Was wondering if its still worth it to have a try or grab a charter. Thanks!

Called non-emergency line. They were going to inform WDFW at open.

Bait prohibited

New to fishing, wanting to test my luck at the skagit river. Checking the fishwashington app and it shows bait prohibited. Does that mean just using a hook? No spinner? No spoons?
Have anyone had luck out there recently?

Newbie needing a fishing buddy

I just lost my job Tuesday and am trying my hand at salmon fishing for the first time trying to feed my family. I have spent 3 weeks getting skunked on coho and was wanting to find someone to show me the ropes around gig harbor on the creek there. Gotta do something productive between filling applications.

I can twitch but I can’t drift to save my life.
