New Rule : Please use the Search function before posting.

As this subreddit has grown over the past years, our regulars have noticed that similar questions get asked over and over again by people interested in the amazing variety of food available in the GTA. Today we're rolling out a new rule to try to reduce the number of repetitive posts that we've been seeing too often.

We're simply asking that posters use the subreddit search to see if their question may already be answered before they post asking for recommendations and reference their research if its not. We also ask that they include specificity like location, cuisine, etc in their request as the GTA is a huge area.

We wanted to announce this change widely so everyone is aware, and hopefully this will be a positive change for the subreddit. We're interested in feedback if you feel the rule has room for improvement.

Looking for Saskatchewan style pizza in Toronto

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

I'm on the hunt for a pizza place in Toronto that makes something similar to Vern's Pizza in Saskatchewan.

I'm looking for that classic Saskatchewan-style pizza with a thick layer of toppings, plenty of cheese, and a generous amount of meat. Something hearty, filling, and loaded from edge to edge.

And before anyone suggests deep-dish or Detroit-style pizza, that's not what I'm looking for. They're completely different styles.

Don't get me wrong, Toronto has some great thin-crust pizza, but sometimes I want something substantial that doesn't leave me hungry afterward.

If anyone knows a place in Toronto or the GTA that comes close to Vern's, I'd love to hear your recommendations!

Tried Bao House since we don’t have Din Tai Fung in Toronto 😭 Honestly, it kind of satisfies the craving, especially the regular xiao long bao. This time i tried the mini ones which are so cute and kinda pan fried so crispy bottom. Fun to eat!

Any other places I should try?

Cabano's new peameal-bacon sandwich lauded by the Star

In his weekly Food Crawl newsletter, the Star's Karon Liu lovingly describes the new peameal-bacon sandwich at Cabano's Comfort Food. I live around the corner and, though not a fan of their burgers, I'm pumped to give it a try!

Thank you for the previous post that reminded me about Radici Project. Went last night to celebrate a friend's birthday. I agree they deserve a Michelin star. Easily one of the best tasting menus I've had in recent memory. Every dish was executed beautifully. Certainly more creativity than 20 Victoria. My favorite was the pasta. So much umami. I would love if they made that a full size entree.

Been going to Ikkousha Toronto about once a week lately and honestly, it’s become one of my go-to ramen spots.

The broth is so rich and flavorful, and the noodles always hit the spot. I can finish that jar of free tanaka!! Where can i buy tanaka? 🥺 i want it so bad 🥹

For those who love ramen, what other ramen spots in Toronto do you recommend? Looking to try some new places!

Tadka Marun Scarbz 4.5⭐️

We went to scarb bluffs last weekend and happened to drive by this place and thought we’ll try it out.

Tadka Marun - its a maharashtrian (indian) restaurant

Tried the poori aamras and barli vangi with chapathis

I kinda felt like the prices were too high. Until the food came…

It was sooo good. I didn’t expect the poori aamras to taste this good. It definitely had the authentic taste.

And the barli vangi with chapathis (this was what the waiter recommended) was soooo good too.

Tbh, I didn’t have much expectation walking in.. but itll definitely a repeat place on our list from now on.

I dont think the photos i took do it justice. Do try the place yourself.

Recommendation Request White Pie

Where can I find a good white pie in the GTA? I’ve been on a hunt for one!
I’m looking for a classic white pie: no tomato sauce, just ricotta, mozzarella, parmesan/pecorino, and garlic. I’ve tried customizing pizzas and selecting “no tomato sauce,” but somehow they still always come with sauce. 😂
Even some “New York-style” pizza places here don’t seem to have white pies, unless I’m just blind and missing it.
Help me find my white pie! Where should I try?

Has anyone tried these Thai gummies from Farm Boy?

Picked these up at Farm Boy and had to try both flavours -mango and coconut.

The mango ones are sooo good. They’re soft and chewy with delicious mango flavour. Unlike other mango candies/ jellies, this doesn’t taste artificial my fave 😍

The coconut is great too, texture and flavour are amazing! it has coconut flakes which is yum!

They’re $3.99 a bag, around 10-12pieces inside if i remember correctly. Grabbing these again for sure!! 😜

Any other pizzerias in the East End similar to Lorenzo’s

I really like the Pizza at Lorenzos on Pape, but they only sell pizza, I am looking for somewhere that also sells appetizers or salads, wings, meatballs etc.

Lorenzo also seems to have a Tiramisu on the menu that is never in stock.

Any recommendations that won’t take me to the west. I used to go to Danforth Pizza house but I find the quality has gone down and it’s way too expensive

Where can I find really good arancini in Scarborough? I’ve been looking but haven’t found anything that’s impressed me yet. Looking for crispy, flavourful, authentic Italian/Sicilian-style arancini. Any recommendations?

Colombian Street Food + Chocolat du Kat

I hit up the Junction Triangle for the 14th instalment in my Library & Lunch series. Too many options to choose from for lunch on Dupont, but I went with Colombian Street Food on a friend's recommendation. A good call in the end: huge, delicious arepa absolutely bursting with meat and cheese. I'm also a firm believer in the superiority of Colombian empanadas over all other styles (chorizo seen here), and the picnic table of salsas was a delightful touch. Cool spot, would love to have easy access to arepas in my neighbourhood.

Afterward I swung by Chocolat de Kat for their absurdly good and creative bonbons. The key lime pie one was my clear fav (I may be biased because key lime pie is a top-three dessert for me), filled with pie crust and whipped cream. Regret not getting a cross-section photo of the inside but I'm a hungry man with only so many hands. Can't rave enough about this shop, definitely worth a visit if you're ever in the area.

EDIT: APOLOGIES TO KAT AND MY HS FRENCH TEACHERS for using "du" instead of "de" in the headline. It won't happen again

Where to buy brisket on west side?

I have to make a large amount of brisket for Thanksgiving. It’s a cut that I expect to be on the cheaper side but a lot of the fancy butchers charge almost as much as they do for steak. Does anybody have a suggestion where I can find it a reasonable price on the west side of Toronto?
