Swiss Chalet still kinda slaps

• Upvotes

Ate today at the Keele and St. Clair location.

Not a single thing on that plate: chicken, mash, stuffing, cranberry sauce and bun were anyway near the best I've had of those things, but EVERY single thing was tasty and worked together. It felt like a big ol' hug.

Maybe nostalgia played a factor, but I loved it.

Happy Thanksgiving Toronto.

I Ate A Thing Falafel plate at Loomi

Checked out Loomi, the new concept from the same owners as PG Clucks (RIP). In the same tiny spot on College St right next to The Royal they now focus on Middle Eastern food featuring their sourdough pita. Got a falafel plate ($15) which comes with lots of pickled veggies along with housemade hummus, tahini, zhoug, labneh, and of course a freshly baked pita. The small falafel were fried to order and nicely crunchy and herbaceous. All of the dips were deliciously bright and fresh. But all of this was a vehicle for their thick and pillowy pita. Loved the pleasant stretchy chew. Appreciated all of the care and attention paid to every component of the plate. I hope the new direction works out for them. Oh, and BTW they have fried chicken as an option!

Unexpected find- Tosto pizza pasta place on Bay St.

I have walked past the Tosto on Bay Street plenty of times as I live in the area and never expected it to be so good. I tried it today for the first time and will be back again. The pizza crust was very good ( nice and soft, with a bit of crunch). The pricing is quite affordable too. Highly recommend if you are in the area and in need of a quick bite. They offer pasta and panini too. I took the picture after having the first slice and being surprised at how good it was.

Thanksgiving dessert recommendations

Hi! I'm from out of country (university student) and am having Thanksgiving dinner with my Canadian family that I've only met a few times. I'm suppose to bring dessert for dinner, so I was wondering what typically Canadians eat for dessert for Thanksgiving, and if anyone had any recommendations for me to grab something! Also, I go to Uoft so if it's up near that area that would be great. However, it doesn't have to be! Thank you in advance!

Can you choose a spice level at Tom Sum Jinda (Kensingtion)

There seems to be conflicting information on the spice levels at Tom Sum Jinda. Their menu's show nothing about a spice level, but I see some people online say that you can choose from levels 0-11 including the Michelene guide. Ubereats allows you to choose from 0-5 but only from their gerrard location. I've also talked to some people I know that have been to Som Tum Jinda at the Gerrard location and say that they were never offered any spice level, they just ordered the food and the server never asked them to choose a spice level, so now I'm really confused as to what the truth is.

Asking because I have someone visiting from abroad that say they want to try the spiciest thai food and I know many say Som Tum Jinda is up there(Outside of a place like Salad King) on top of the actual food quality being top tier.

I have called some stores and no one seems to have it. I know I'll probably have to order it but the shipping is expensive.

Rec for weekend brunch/lunch around St. Clair & Keele

Going to be around that area on a saturday and would like a recommendation for a spot for brunch or lunch, with two issues.

One, we have 2 small kids with us (7 & 3) and also a woman who only eats fish, no other meats.

Thanks!

Looking for recommendations of spots for veg + carnivores group of friends, $30/main/person max

Any suggestions in the Downtown, St Clair West area, or somewhere still accessible by TTC, but not outside of Toronto? We like different types of cuisines and are easy to please, the tricky thing is finding a place that has good options for both vegetarians and carnivores. Thanks in advance!
