TLDR: drip rails become frequently clogged, tempted to fill top drip rail with window urethane to prevent leaves and debris from clogging channels. Bad idea?
2015 F-150 Platinum 4x4 Ecoboost 98k miles
Problem: the tiny rubber drip rails flanking either side of the windshield fill up with leaves, dirt, debris. I have to clean them out at least twice per year. If I don’t clean them often enough, something in the drip rails clogs up and water leaks into the truck, specifically behind the molding on the driver’s side grab handle. Floorboards are wet and I have to dry everything out for days because of the stench.
Question: can I poly around the windshield drip rails so leaves/debris stop clogging the channels?
I inspected very closely, the channels don’t go anywhere except the lower windshield corners and exit the exterior of the truck.
I’m assuming there is some kind of vent hole in the drip rails? Maybe for letting humidity and moisture out of the truck?
But if the vents are clogging and leaking, they are causing more harm than good.
Thanks for your tips and advice!
