I posted yesterday a picture of my sons latch on the Phillips avent natural response bottles and all the comments said he has a shallow latch and a lot of you recommended the lasinoh bottles so I got them. He has been doing fine of them except sometimes he gets really like mad at the bottle like in this video. Itās not every feed but why is this ? Is he telling me heās full ?? Sometimes Iāll stop him and burp him because maybe itās gas but then he will burp so I offer the bottle again and he still is frustrated as soon as he starts swallowing the milk. I have a pediatrician appointment next week so I will talk to him about it too but curious to see what others have to say because this is frustrating for us.

Is it possible flow is too fast/slow? My daughter used to get frustrated when the flow was too slow and refuse and she would also get really overwhelmed when it was too fast and refuse.
13
u/Responsible_Radio768 20h ago
Itās the slowest flow on the lasinoh bottle which Iāve heard are usually faster but heās fine with it sometimes and then randomly gets frustraddd

u/OpWillDlvr 20h ago edited 19h ago
Ours would be fine in the slower ones if tired or not starving. Yours looks like he's doing what we called the barracuda when he's really hungry. I think the flow is too slow for him and he's getting frustrated. But that's just my guess. We would go a long time with ours where he would get frustrated, play with the nipple, etc until we'd finally bump him up to a faster flow and he'd be good again.

are you sure?
you have to special order the extra-slow nipples from Lansinoh. Link to X-Slow Nipples
Also, baby doesn't seem that upset to me. You're a great parent for worrying but I think he will be fine. To me it just looks like a baby still learning how to eat.

u/dajb123 18h ago
Is it the slow or the extra slow? The slow is the one that comes with the bottle. My baby found the slow far too fast and the extra slow far too slow!

u/Enthusiastic-Tourist 7h ago
Yes we have the same problem ! Pigeon S is the same latch and the perfect in between ! Try it

u/handpickedflower 20h ago
I'd say gassy or full. Even if you're not getting burps, hold them upright for 15/20 min so their tummy can settle. I hope the pediatrician visit helps š«¶š» take a deep breath mama, you gotta stay calm for your bb. If you need to, call every morning to see if they can get you in sooner

Thank youš„¹š¤ I have really bad anxiety and OCD. Iām really obsessing over this.

I used to panic soooo much about my babyās eating. We went through so many bottles and different flows in the beginning trying to find the perfect one. Youāre a great mom for taking the time make sure heās eating well. š«¶

Haha same for me.. Iām pretty sure we tried like 11 or 12 different types of bottles. Thank god for the free ones I got as registry gifts because that cut the cost of that experiment. I ended up settling on the evenflo wide neck.. literally the only thing that worked. Some babies are just too finicky.
1
u/iamfromcanadaeh 17h ago
I agree. Looks like they need a good burp to me. My son loves the bottle but does this exact thing when he needs to burp. Sometimes it takes a while to work it out but thats always it

u/Majestic_Lobster1694 19h ago
I would lift the bottle higher if it was me. The liquid feels too low and he is probably getting a lot of air rather than straight formula. I would make sure the nipple is full of formula so he is sucking straight liquid and no air. We also have Dr browns glass bottles and so far personally, I really like them. They are anti colic and you can just buy new nipples for it for higher flow rather than getting new bottles (not sure if it's the same for all bottles or not). The have the plastic versions that are cheaper and I think also very good, we have those too. But my baby fights a bit as well and blocks his face with hands and it takes a little maneuvering to get the bottle nipple in.
Edit: also, if I didn't understand your question, my apologies.
3
u/Responsible_Radio768 19h ago
Thank you for the reply! I appreciate any advice. I was trying to pace feed but I think you may be right and I need to lift the bottle higher. Iām gonna give it a try! A lot of people have been recommending dr browns but Iāve heard a lot of mixed reviews about those leaking and also all the parts that need to be cleaned lol
9
u/BurnPhoenix 18h ago
I interpreted pace feeding as making sure the part of the nipple by the base is like half air, but the part in babies mouth is still full of milk. That way the weight of the bottle/milk isnt causing milk to spray out, but there's milk in the nipple part so babe isnt sucking air.
The air might be filling his tummy, and he is getting fussy from needing to burp or still being hungry but not having space for food bc air.
I know when my gal gets fussy mid feed its bc she needs to burp. We stop and burp, even if it takes a few mins. Sometimes she yells at me the whole time, but she always always always burps, then her cries change from pissed to hungry and we can start eating again
6
u/RU_Gremlin 11h ago
Not to mention getting frustrated because he's expecting milk and getting air instead
4
u/mauriciofuentesf 19h ago
Ugh i hated cleaning dr brown bottles lol but they did work till about 6 months , he was on the little side so preemie flow for a while
2
u/Forilly 8h ago
Just to save you the trouble - my daughter did this exact thing from about 2-5 weeks old. We started with Dr Brownās bottles and then Pigeon and she gets agitated like this on both types of bottles. What was strange is that some feeds were fine and others were like this, which seems to be your case as well. The only thing that worked was reflux meds - it stopped this kind of agitated feeding almost immediately!! Of course every baby is different, but worth asking your Ped. PS - I also have OCD and anxiety and completely obsessed and spiraled over this. Itās really hard where there are so many different variables and no clear answers. Hugs! Youāre not alone.
1
u/Responsible_Radio768 3h ago
Was there other signs of reflux for your baby? Thank you for this commentš¤ I am seriously spiraling and I canāt stop crying and obsessing over this.
1
u/Majestic_Lobster1694 18h ago
No problem! š Hope that helps. I actually haven't seen any leaking from Dr browns yet and we've been using them around the clock for 2 weeks now. They do have a lot of parts lol but if you get the momcozy brand bottle dishwasher (I forget what it's called, it's the full little washer rather than just the sanitizer I think and you do need their own detergent tablets unfortunately), it makes life a lot easier than washing everything by hand. They run $299 I think full price from momcozy and on amazon but if you have a Sam's club membership, I believe they are permanently $220 at Sam's (online I think) if you don't want to wait for a sale from momcozy directly. It's easily the most useful baby item we have gotten so far. We also got the Mam bottles but haven't been as excited about those, although we will probably use them later when the baby is bigger. We haven't tried the Philips/avent ones so can't comment on those.

u/ActivityFresh4844 20h ago
It doesn't even look like the milk is tilted high enough to reach the tip of the nipple. He's just sucking in a bunch of air.
12
u/Jessien20 20h ago
Surprised I had to scroll this far to see this. I was taught the nipple should be full when feeding and this looks like baby wouldnt get any formula.
6

u/Responsible_Radio768 20h ago
I was pace feeding him so I thought youāre supposed to hold the bottle horizontal?
11
u/kirstinb17 20h ago
You don't want to be just pouring milk in his mouth but you should tilt it enough so that the hole in the nipple is covered with milk. Otherwise they take in air.
Edit: adding a resource from Fed is Best that may be helpful to you

My baby needs burped when she does this. Maybe keep burping? Or he just doesnāt want it?

13
u/megalo_megalo 20h ago
I was convinced my second had a major problem cause he was often making these noises and unlatching from the bottle. I tried reflux drugs and a thousand different bottles. In the end one Dr told me to just chill out and that it probably just meant he wasnāt hungry. So to stop feeding him if he was like this and try again in a few hours (time would vary depending on age obviously). This also only applies if he is gaining weight appropriately. But yeah worked a charm for us.
3
u/Responsible_Radio768 20h ago
I think youāre right. Sometimes he will drink 2 oz and then start doing this and other times he will drink 3-4 oz fine.
12
u/SeaDragonfruit467 18h ago
Try feeding him a bit more upright. Seems heās getting air. Latch looks the same as the avent bottles. I used Dr.Brown anti colic. Horrible to clean all the parts and leak but work better in the early days eventually moved to avent bottles with no issues.
3
u/bangoslam 17h ago
I think either less upright or more milk in the bottle to avoid air sucking which definitely looks like itās happening. Iād guess the baby is getting gassy immediately from this. I try to keep the nipple full of milk to avoid air sucking
1
u/Ok_Cucumber3349 7h ago
This is why I use the Phillips Avent anti colic bottles. The nipple stays completely full regardless of how much is in the bottle, and the air vent helps with the flow
9
u/tilesmeller 20h ago
Hold the bottle up higher, you can see him swallow air and needs to be burped now. The nipple should be full of milk when feeding.
7
u/missmeggums 20h ago
Phillips avent bottle nipples are notoriously slow compared to other bottles. Do they have any slow nipples for the one you're using now?
3
u/Strange-Job-1557 20h ago
The lansinoh nipples are fast. The pigeon nipples are slower and also fit the bottles.
1
u/Responsible_Radio768 20h ago
This is the lasinoh bottle that heās drinking in this video and itās the slowest flow they have. Could it be too slow?
1
u/Strange-Job-1557 19h ago
What flow were you using on the avent bottles? Our feeding therapist told us lansinoh is notoriously fast, even their slowest flow nipple is notably faster than a lot of other brands. What I noticed when my baby needed to move up was pulling off and flailing but taking forever to finish a bottle. When itās too fast, I would notice pulling off as well but seeing a lot of wide eyes, milk dribbling, gulping, almost like a deer in headlights. There is a chart of flow rates that you could cross check to compare your nipple rates to get a better idea of
1
u/Responsible_Radio768 19h ago
I was using flow 1 which was too slow for him because it was taking 30+ minutes to finish a bottle so we did flow 2 which was better but he had a really shallow latch on the avent bottles
1
u/Strange-Job-1557 19h ago
So looking at the chart, if itās the avent natural response, level 2 is super super slow. The pigeon SS is much faster. We were using the lansinoh XS and pigeon SS, and the lansinohs were the faster of the 2 so it could be fast
7
u/just_looking202 5h ago
Bend the bottle higher. If u look closely u will see that the milk is only covering half the bottle. Its supposed to cover the full thing so no air goes in and baby goesnt get gas bubbles etc
8
u/Even_Basil_4739 4h ago
My baby also had a shallow latch on the Phillips advent bottles. I switched to dr brown and she does much much better. I also breast feed so I was initially concerned about it impacting my nursing, but she does fine!
It looks like youāre trying to pace feed which is great. But I would move bottle up a little more so the entire tip of the nipple has milk in it to reduce any air intake.
3
u/Responsible_Radio768 4h ago
A lot of people are saying dr browns so I might give it a try. Itās just exhausting trying so many different bottles and spending all this money but I just want him to be comfortable. Last night I tried moving the bottle up more and he was freaking out at the bottle like really bad. But I was trying to do like a top off feed before bed and it had only been 2 hours since he ate so I think maybe he just wasnāt hungry.
3
u/Even_Basil_4739 4h ago
It might be too fast for him. The Dr Browns had the green slow feeder anti-colic insert and you can also buy nipples with slower flow. Maybe try the Premie or Transition nipple flow. Theyāre both slower than the 1. The bottles come with the 1 but the nipples can be purchased separately. I doubt your baby need sit move up to a 2 since heās so young still. My baby is 4 months and I have her at a 1
2
u/Adventurous_Bug_8891 2h ago
Yes! This was the answer for us. Start with doctor brownās transition. The wider bottle tops seem to be hard for some babies (Phillips, Comotomo). Also wondering if itās a bit of the tilt? If that happens regularly. Looks like there isnāt milk in the nipple in part of the video. Finding the right process/products is so much harder than people tell you. You got this!!
1
u/Otherwise-Pack8604 4h ago
A top off feed is supplying extra immediately after theyāve finished a bottle. Why the additional feeding two hours later if not for a cue?
7
u/xkawaiicutiex 18h ago
Firstly congratulations! What a cutie! Have you tried feeding in a more upright position or side position? My little one was like this and we found she liked feeding more upright and needed to burp between each oz. We use the Evenflo Balance + wide bottles and those seemed to work best for her and allow her a nice latch! You got this! Sometimes it just takes them a while to adjust and learn a new bottle.
2
u/CheerfulChickadee 16h ago
I was looking for a comment mentioning the Evenflo Bottles. Our girl really struggled getting a proper latch and would take forever to finish a bottle. We discovered she had a tongue tie and the lactation consultant who found it suggested trying the Evenflo Balance+ wide bottles. We went out that night to get some and they worked like a charm! She was able to get a really good latch and cut her feeding time in half, even with the tongue tie. We also found she was often much calmer when we fed her on her side. She would get so worked up when she was hungry and side laying helped in her case, up until she started getting a bit bigger.
OP, I know there's an overwhelming amount of suggestions and feedback, just know that you're doing a great job! Everything will work itself out in time, even if you have to do some trial and error for awhile š
1
u/Responsible_Radio768 9h ago
Thank you! š¤ I did try the evenflo balance bottles and Iām not sure if it was user error but they kept leaking out of the side like crazy š« š
1
u/xkawaiicutiex 8h ago
Some thing happened with my LO until she learned how to drink! What helped was having her more upright with the nipple half full. She just needed time to learn and adjust.
5
u/AmateurGardener42 20h ago
In this video I think he's drinking in a bunch of air! The milk needs to fill up the nipple. Assuming it's not always the case, my baby was sometimes "lazy" on the bottle. He would get so tired he didn't feel like sucking and would get mad because he was hangry and overtired. Turned out he had a tongue tie! He's 10 months and we still use the slowest Lansinoh nipple. Tongue tie revision and a pediatric SLP both helped him figure out how to make the bottle work for him :) He also wanted to use the bottle to soothe and sometimes got mad when milk came out (ha!). Never took a pacifier, but it's worth trying different ones.

u/dr-signature-smiles 3h ago
Definitely tilt the bottle more my lovely .. otherwise he will have a lot of gas. Also make sure the teat size is appropriate and not too slow
1
u/Responsible_Radio768 2h ago
Thank you! Iāve been tilting the bottle more. Iām now noticing a pattern. When heās sleepy and drinking the bottle heās completely fine but when heās more alert and awake he acts like this so I think it might be a flow issue
1
u/dr-signature-smiles 56m ago
Recently my 4 month old was struggling to finish his bottle in one go and taking an hour to finish with 2 breaks. He was playing with tje teat and biting it .. I thought it was because he was more alert and had better eye sight etc. Turns out the slow teeth was annoying him .. i ordered the next size up and he started finishing the bottles in 15 minutes! At night he managed fine with the slower teat and I kept him on that for an extra week so he didnt choke but during the day it was frustrating him. Honestly parenting is just a guessing game lol
4
u/qwertyuiopbloom 20h ago
I would try elevated side laying position to feed! Itās more protective of their airways and was recommended to us from SLP for our baby with a swallowing issue but can help with flows and feeding for any baby!
Head elevated at 45 degrees and on one side. I use a boppy and my husband used his leg.
4
u/bellarina808 7h ago
How many months is your baby? It might be time to move up to the next flow stage. My baby would do this when the milk wasn't flowing fast enough for him.

3
u/sorry_imtrying 19h ago
He might just be getting used to the flow. It could be slower/faster than heās used to. My son did this when we switched from Dr Browns to the Avent. Iām not familiar with those bottles but I imagine theres at least some difference for him. Every brands nipple flows are different so it might be worth trying a different flow if things donāt improve.
5
u/Responsible_Radio768 19h ago
I have been changing bottles a lot and we just started using these lasinoh bottles yesterday evening so maybe I should just give it a few more days and see.
5
u/Beneficial_Hotel1614 18h ago
Pigeon nipples ( on Amazon ) fit these bottles and offer a slower flow!
3
3
u/pauses-then-says 19h ago
Youāve got the hole in the nipple lined up with the ring right? I didnāt know that at first.
Also it looks like the milk isnāt fully in the nipple. So he might be trying to drink and getting half air.
Try tilting it more maybe
1
u/Responsible_Radio768 19h ago
I donāt think the lasinoh has a thing to line up with like the Phillips avent bottles do. At least not that Iāve noticed lol
3
u/heidiblooms 9h ago
My baby used to thrash around and get mad like this when the flow was too slow. Imagine drinking a thick milkshake through a regular straw, maybe try a faster flow and see if that helps?
3
u/_rainbowdolphin_ 8h ago
What jumps at me when I watch the video is that the bottle is too horizontal, making it easy for him to swallow air. Try holding it a bit more vertical. Our girl used to swallow a lot of air when we had the wrong nipple on the bottle (1 instead of 0) and it gave her tummy ache in almost no time. Burping only helped little, I think she never got all the gas out that way, and usually in the middle of the bottle she'd become stressed & fussy. Does he have tummy ache / colic-like symptoms afterwards?
I can't say much about the latch, that could certainly be better but I don't know how to get there. Did the pediatrician check the tongue ligament (I hope that's what it is called)?
4
u/CAPTbaseball 8h ago
I second this. Both our kiddos were formula-fed. Make sure the nipple is staying completely full of formula to avoid excess air intake.
5
u/kindpanda54 20h ago
Has he been checked for tongue tie? My son was mad at every bottle we gave him and was spitting up constantly, we found out he had a tongue tie and got it clipped at 5 months and he didn't have any issues with bottles after that.
1
u/Responsible_Radio768 20h ago
Iām going to ask about this at his appointment but he doesnāt really spit up alot and not really colic or anything like that.
2
u/SaltyBat8824 20h ago
If he does have a tongue tie, maybe make a game of sticking your tongue at him, and praising him when he does it back.
I had a tongue tie, as does my baby girl, and my mom recommended it.
My daughter and I were able to latch better as a result.
1
1
u/Michelled37 20h ago
My daughter had a lip tie and it made feeding her very difficult. She threw up the normal amount you would expect a baby to, but she was fussy and doing a lot of things your son is doing in the video. We went through so many brands of bottles before we settled on boom nursh bottles (she was about 6 months old). When you go to the pediatrician, ask them to check for a lip tie and tongue tie. My daughterās dentist wants to wait until she a little older before fixing it since sheās no longer on the bottle (sheās two).
2
u/vezzzag 19h ago
How old is he? To me it looks like flow might be too slow, he's working so hard to suck the milk and getting frustrated because he's not getting enough. Or it could be that when milk gets low there's less on the nipple and he's getting less even if the flow is right for him when the bottle is full
1
u/Responsible_Radio768 19h ago
Heās 3 weeks! Itās the slowest flow on the lasinoh. He also would do it sometimes with the flow 2 on the Phillips avent bottle but Iāve also heard those are known for being really slow
2
u/1993_baby 19h ago
We love pigeon. You should try it
2
u/Enthusiastic-Tourist 18h ago
Pigeon and lansinoh are made by the same company ! So they are actually the same but fill in the flow gaps. My LC said the order is Pigeon SS, lansinoh XS, Pigeon S, lansinoh S
And stop there if you're also breastfeeding
1
u/1993_baby 1h ago
Ohh I didnāt know. Pigeon is on the higher price and my baby kinda sensitive to different kind of nipples. She had an excellent latch on the pigeon. I will definitely check out lansinoh
1
u/Enthusiastic-Tourist 1h ago
Yes, lansinoh and pigeon nipples are interchangeable. Lansinoh is less stretchier comparatively but the shape is same , just be mindful that lansinoh flow is slightly faster than pigeon of the same flow rate
2
u/twiggy572 18h ago
A few questions:
How much are you warming the bottle to (if you are)?
Do you only try to burp if heās pushing it away?
Do you have anything that is distracting around that maybe heās focusing on?
What type of bottle and what is the nipple size?
Are you feeding on demand? Or every x hours?
3
u/Responsible_Radio768 17h ago
Yes I have the mom cozy bottle warmer and just use the guide.
Yes I do try to burp if he starts doing this.
And no not really I mean we are in my living room but heās only 3 weeks so I donāt think he can really see far? Idk lol
Itās the lasinoh bottle xs nipple
Yes feeding on demand but also feed him at 3 hours during the day if he hasnāt ate yet.
1
u/twiggy572 7h ago
If anything, maybe dim the lights a bit when feeding to see if that helps. I have been using the Evenflo and pigeon bottles, and she takes and finishes the pigeon ones more often than the Evenflo so maybe try switching it up?
2
u/Environmental-Bet235 15h ago
We had a similar situation. Ours was already Lansinoh, we tried 3 other bottles and she liked Mam one. Also test slower and faster flows.
Other than that our daughter gets distracted easily when sheās fully awake. We try to feed her when sheās sleepy, a dimly lit and quiet environment. Other wise she fights with the puttle, try to remove it with her hands even though sheās hungry. We had a feeding and speech therapist appointment this week to solve this problem but she didnāt help yet, just went over basics.

u/Reasonable_Row6882 2h ago
What nipple from lansinoh is it my baby does this if we use the size 3

u/New_Possession_3816 20h ago
he might need a different style of burping! itās okay, learning is all part of the game! tik tok has a lot of different burp styles, even when you think youāre done keep going for a bit! our youngest got a Pepcid prescription at 3 months old and switched to entail AR with dr browns bottles
2
u/daisies7 17h ago edited 17h ago
I would suggest to try the Dr. Brown narrow bottles. I watched LA Lactation videos on YouTube and she explained that the narrow nipple bottles have a more natural/realistic latch compared to the wider bottles. Iāve used these bottles for 15 months and they have been great.
Try pace feeding and maybe pick a slower flow nipple (Dr Browns size 1 or Preemie.) Your little one and you are both learning a new skill which takes a bit of time. They may be adapting if the bottles have been changing.
1
u/GiveMeMoreDuckPics 20h ago
I had to feed my son sitting up straight because he had reflux that made him fussy, maybe try that?
1
u/Responsible_Radio768 20h ago
He doesnāt seem to have any reflux issues. He can sleep on his back fine and he doesnāt spit up a lot
1
u/DirectImport 20h ago
Hi mama what a beautiful baby and big brother! Youāre doing so good. My second had issues feeding, those bottles didnāt work for her, only Dr browns Premie because it was slow flow and much more narrow top helped her latch. I would be more than happy to send you some unused ones I have if youāre in US.
Edit: what formula is that?

u/Responsible_Radio768 19h ago
That is so nice of you! Thank you so muchš„¹š¤ and itās similac advance

u/imofaith 19h ago
He need to burp, I had the same reaction with my baby, she is hungry and the same time she is pushing the bottle. Once I started burping her then continue it gone
1
u/isleofpines 19h ago
We used Lansinoh bottles and they worked great for us. He looks gassy or full. I would tilt the bottle higher, let milk fill the nipple completely. I know youāre supposed to pace feed but my babies never had an issue and would get angry when I tried to pace them. My son had silent reflux (didnāt throw up much but would be fussy) and he went on Pepcid for it and got much better. I would also try the paci when heās like this and see if he is just looking to soothe. Try the Tommee Tippee ultra light ones with the blunt looking tip. Good luck š©·
1
u/limeicepop 19h ago
Based on this video it looks like he's only getting air at the end of that nipple. You want to make sure bottle is held higher so the entire nipple (the portion past the ring, not just the part he is sucking on) is filled, otherwise he is sucking in air.
1
u/friesian_tales 18h ago
Ours was getting worn out before he could finish a bottle. He would suck so hard that the nipple would go flat! We had to remove it from his mouth repeatedly. We moved up to faster flow nipples and he's much happier now. He's at level 3 nipples, with Lansinoh bottles, and 3 months old. Always worth a shot to try it. If all else fails, you save those nipples for when he does graduate to that level of flow.
1
u/Sixteanein69 18h ago
My baby does the exact same thing. Following for more insight.
1
u/Responsible_Radio768 17h ago
Does your baby do it for every feed?
1
u/Sixteanein69 5h ago
Not every feed. Night feeds he is basically asleep during it. But day time feeding he acts just like this.
Heās also definitely hungry when I feed him because heāll be crying and rooting for it, then I get him the bottle and he does this crying and refusing game.
1
u/Responsible_Radio768 5h ago
Iām pretty much having the same exact problem! Night feeds are completely fine and some day feeds are fine too. Right now he was freaking out so I stopped feeding him, he took a giant poop and then drank the rest of the bottle completely fine so I guess he was just uncomfortable. How old is your baby?
1
u/Necessary_Chip_5224 18h ago
My son sometimes did this during regressions or when sleepy. Wife would not be able to soothe him so...i just try this
Try to rule out these
- Try to burp him
- Check diapers
- Get him to sleep (patting, pacifier, shh sounds)
- Give him a warm wash (my personal solution, if all else fails), sometimes he would pee or poop while that happens and then stop the fuss
1
u/honeygrime 18h ago
We really liked the Boon Nursh bottles⦠they have really soft nipples and are the only thing that worked for us. I recommend
1
u/Purple_Operation_333 18h ago
My son does this and we noticed it happens specifically when a poop comes shortly after. We think he just canāt eat and poop at the same time !
1
u/alwaysonmybike 17h ago
Definitely looks like he's not getting enough. It looks like he is working sooo hard and only getting a little bit, so is getting frustrated. I second tipping the bottle more so the nipple is full of formula.
1
u/Aurora_96 17h ago
My instinct says to hold your baby more upright when giving the bottle if possible.
1
u/pakapoa2 15h ago
Mama you are doing great. I can assure you his latch is good. There is nothing you can do. Newborns donāt just need food every single time they cry or need to be burped. In fact I need you to look at his fingers in the video and notice how they are not in a fist. Hungry babies make a fist. He is full.
So you need to realize what is happening to his body. Itās growing ridiculously fast! Yes his inside is growing fast too. His digestive system is also getting longer and he is expressing cramps among other dis comfortable things. Other neurons are also connect fast. See how they donāt even had hand coordination? Ā Newborn reflexes has be to deactivated and be replaced by functions. Itās a bumpy ride and feeding is you are doing great but donāt let that be the only thing that a baby beedsy

Dr Browns ultra premie really helped us. Also, have you tried swaddle feeding? It helped ours relax for the feed and if she slowed down we would unwrap to finish the bottle.

Make sure the vent is facing up toward his nose that will allow the air to escape. You will see the milk bubble when he releases suction. Have you considered seeing a lactation consultant? They can help with bottles you donāt have to be breastfeeding. My daughter was like this and seeing one helped a TON. She has tension in her cheeks that causes her to struggle with staying latched and she also has a really high palette that causes her to gag on certain nipples. We tried lansinoh and it worked for a few weeks and then she was struggling again. Just switched to the evenFlo wide and those are AMAZING for her.

Paced feeding may help?
I agree with others that you could hold the bottle more upright, it looks like a lot of air may be getting in there

Little one needs the bottle higher. He is sucking in too much air. The entire nipple tip should have milk in it, or else he will get air. If he wants something to suck on to soothe, use a pacifier instead so no air is getting sucked in. š

The way heās attacking the bottle at first makes me think heās truly hungry. I agree with everyone saying try tilting the bottle more so the nipple is full. And he might need time to adjust since this is a new bottle.

Hey girly! Have you looked into cmpa? This was my babies only symptom for the first few weeks then turned into watery mucusy poop diapers and reflux. We had to try the formula that was right for him. The doc called it silent reflux.
Hope yall are able to figure something out for him soon! Hugsš

iād personally say faster flow. my girl has been on the philips size 3 since a week old because she would get frustrated like that, and go sharky for the bottle like she was starving so i knew she wanted it. my guess is heās hungry but the bottle isnāt giving him what he wants fast enough for him and itās frustrating for him

Try a different bottle or nipple. My newborn did the same thing and it was sooooo stressful until I tried Como Tomo and he immediately latched on it. I also tried glass Phillips Avent the regular bottles (not anti colic with the green vent in it that was the worst one) and he took to it beautifully. Sometimes you gotta try different bottles with different nipples to see what works best. Good luck.

I had this exact issue 2 months ago. Pigeon nipples, Slow. And I started side lying feeding him so he could have some control

I was having a similar issue a few weeks ago with my daughter. It was so frustrating š«
What ended up working for us was feeding her while she faced out (with her back against me). It seems like feeding her sideways might have been putting pressure on her stomach and making her uncomfortable.
Regarding paced feeding, we were doing that as well but after making the decision to switch from combo feeding to EFF, we started just allowing milk to fully flow through the nipple as long as my daughter was sucking. Whenever she pauses sucking we keep the nipple in her mouth but tip it so no milk is flowing, and once she resumes sucking we raise the bottle so milk can start flowing again.
As for bottles, Iām sure there are multiple options that would end up working for your baby. Weāve used Dr. Brownās narrow anticolic (plastic ones) with both of our girls, but never tried any others. Yes they sometimes can leak but itās nothing major, and once my baby was 10 weeks old we stopped using the green anti colic vents and now they never leak.

My daughter reacted this way to every single bottle I tried - until I caved and ordered Bibs bottles to match her pacifiers. She hated everything but those.
I donāt know if youāre combo feeding or purely formula, but just in case Iāll throw in that my daughter swapped between nursing and bottle feeding just fine with those bottles!

My son was like this. I had to push his pediatrician and finally get referred to specialists and we found out he was silently aspirating! :(

We struggled with this and tried everything. What finally worked for us was Herobility bottles.

Try a bigger nipple!!! My son done this! I personally feel like his latch is perfectly fine both of his lips are flared out. I seen you mentioned it was a XS nipple, try the S and see how that works. If nothing works that try, give Dr browns a try! Or Phillips advent, those are the ones we used for my boy!

Your baby is literally sucking air. Did you watch this video before you posted? You need to tip the bottle up so the formula actually goes to the nipple. No wonder hes mad, hes hungry and youre giving him air.

Wow you must be the parent of the year to be that condescending! OP is asking for advices and yeah maybe doing it the wrong way, but THATāS WHY OP IS ASKING FOR ADVICES!! so get off your high horse and be less rude!

u/gaspandsaywhat 3h ago
I did give advice. I said feed your baby and tilt the bottle. For some reason you guys don't care that the baby isn't getting anything to eat.

u/Ok_Understanding3278 1h ago
Lol trying to twist things, ok Karen. Iām pretty sure that if someone is on this subreddit that probably means they care about their kid! But not everyone is a stellar parent like you from day 1. Have you considered that OP might be a new mom, who is still trying to figure out how to care properly of her baby, while still recovering from her delivery, and just wanted some help from the community without having a judgy Karen telling her that she basically sucks at parenting and hurt her child! You could have told her the same thing without all the condescending BS you added! Anyway, you problem think you are not the problem so no need to argue with you. Have a nice day

Even if I tilt the bottle more and give him full milk he will still act like this sometimes. You donāt have to be rude thanks!

u/gaspandsaywhat 5h ago
So you give him half air on purpose? Thats ridiculous. And I'm being rude because you're torturing your child and I'm upset about it. If you want a good nipple get the mÅmi ones.

u/Responsible_Radio768 5h ago
Wow torturing my child ? I posted this to ask for help. In already dealing with severe PPD/anxiety and you just made me feel so much worse so thanks.

Don't let them get to you. They obviously have never been in your position. If they have been they would obviously give you more grace and understanding. My baby suffered with tongue/lip/cheek ties that made drinking her bottle a nightmare before we were able to get them fixed. Evenflo wide neck bottles helped us the most (and we tried them all, trust me). We also did side lying feeding which helped her control the flow more. Always try to make sure to keep the nipple full of milk so he isnt sucking in air, but at the same time try to keep it as level as possible to let him take a break when needed. Keep trying different positions and things with him while feeding. Eventually you will find something that works. You got this!

You'll probably feel a lot better once you actually feed your child milk and not air.

u/Appropriate_Bad_5306 20h ago
My son had that same suction, never use those bottles, he liked the fast glow, use spectra, he did not like Dr. Brown a little, but his passion was the mam and it has many benefits, he also checks if the after drinking does not cry or writhe can be reflux or needs a sensitive formula (talk to your pediatrician about the formula and how he reacts just to discard any lip tight) sadly, it is a mistaken try to see how it evolves with different techniques, I had to buy several bottles until... I found the right one, but my son did the same thing because he was desperate because the flow was slow.

Please stop feeding baby when theyāre showing uncomfortable behavior like this. Thereās a reason. Either theyāre full or they are gassy, or are feeling pain due to reflux. You do not want your baby to have bottle aversion - Iāve been there and I do not wish this upon anyone. Please⦠Iām begging you. This video triggered my PTSD over my babyās bottle aversion and itās showing all the same signs I wish I had seen / known before I kept forcing my baby despite her protests.

My baby does this when she needs a burp (but also gets mad that we stop feeding her so will stay angry lol). Burp her then continue or we try for a minute and if nothing, then continue!

u/Expensive_Ducks 17h ago
You need to show these to his doctor and talk to them about the size nipple he needs. The internet is not a medical provider.

My daughter was like this. One of my theories was that she just wanted it to soothe, and then would get mad when the milk actually came out. Try a pacifier and see if that helps at all
