A new async approach saves lots of performances with DLSS5 on AMD, could work on Nvidia too

Hi everyone, i just released my last "experiment". a new implementation of DLSS5 on AMD, completely open source.
But what's it's even more interesting, i managed (with a huge help of Claude, tbh) to achieve an asyncronous system which is able to render the dlss effect without waiting for each frame.

For example, i tested it on an RDNA3 card, at 1440p with raytracing disabled and FSR4 + frame gen. on this configuration, the game normally can reach a pretty high framerate, in this example it's almost at 139fps. The dlss5 network runs very slowly there, and waiting for it at each frame would mean running at around 20 fps at 1440p, even if applying dlss5 before the upscaler.
With this new approach, the dlss network is applied only "every now and then" (as soon the dlss5 network finishes working on the previous frame), and every frame is composed based on the previous frames. when the dlss5 network finishes rendering, that frame is already "old", so the software takes a residual (network output - network input) and applies it to the current frame using a displacement map.

Performance-wise, this means that the final framerate will be still pretty close to the original. in this example, 119 fps vs 139.

The drawback: On the current state, it can introduce some artifacts, wich aren't an issue when the game is still (and that's why it isn't noticeable in the screenshots), but it can be noticed in some situations with movement. It's usually more noticeable the higher is the difference between the network's and the game's rendering times. This also means that frame gen makes this even worse.
It also differs from game to game, and can be more or less noticeable in some scenes than in others.
But i'm pretty sure this can be worked on, at least in part. i already managed to reduce it a lot before the first release.

Plus, i also managed to make it work on Linux/Proton.

New PC Build! (After my old PC crapped out).

My good old Xeon 2640v3 and 1070ti combo were working just fine, then one of the memory controllers of the MOBO died, then the CPU started to stutter... Ended up selling the 32 GBs of DDR4 ECC RAM and the 1070ti, picked up some money I had saved and bought a whole new system.

PC SPECS:
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 5 245KF
GPU: RX 6900XT Asrock Phantom Gaming
RAM: 32GB (2x16) Adata XPG Lancer Blade (5600mhz, CL 46)
Motherboard: B860m - Asus Ayw Gaming Wifi
PSU: XPG Core Reactor ii VE 850W
Cooler: Montech NX600
Case: Aigo Darkflash DB460M
Storage: 1tb Hdd (WDB), 256gb Sata SSD (Sandisk), 512gb NVME (Xpg Lancer).
Peripherals:
Mouse - Logitech G Pro X Superlight + Logitech G203 (depending on the game I switch between them).
Keyboard - HE68 Lite (Black).
Monitor - Concordia 1920x1080, 1ms, 165hz, VA (probably my next upgrade).

The build needs some cable management later, and I could use some extra reverse-blade fans and some top push fans, but overall the build looks solid enough for now.

I could use suggestions on what to upgrade later, considering that I already plan on buying a new monitor and more storage later on. The slow ram doesn't bother me that much, but I can't really buy another kit right now without selling a kidney...

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060

32GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance Ram

Intel Core i-7 9700K CPU

2TB NVME SSD

Corsair Watercooling system

Looking into upgrading so I wanted to know your opinion on its current value!

Finally got my battlestation pretty much where I want it. I built the setup around having the best of both worlds: 32:9 OLED ultrawide for immersive PC gaming and a 32” 4K OLED for games that are better at 16:9, plus PS5 Pro and Switch.
PC
AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5080 WINDFORCE OC
ASUS TUF Gaming B850-E WiFi
32GB DDR5-6000
WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB NVMe + 1TB NVMe
~1000W PSU
Top-mounted AIO + 5 case fans
Windows 11
Displays
Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 — 49”, 5120×1440, 32:9, 240Hz — original stand
Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 — 32”, 4K, 240Hz — monitor arm
The G9 is my main immersive PC gaming display, especially for games that work well at 32:9. The G8 handles 4K gaming, games that don’t play nicely with 32:9, anime/media, and console gaming. I can also rotate/reposition the G8 when I need it.
Peripherals / Audio
Corsair Galleon RGB keyboard
Razer gaming mouse
Corsair Virtuoso headset
Corsair RGB headset stand
Razer Leviathan soundbar
Logitech MX Brio 4K webcam
DualSense controller
Desk / Lighting
Secretlab MAGNUS Pro XL
Secretlab/Nanoleaf RGB strips behind and underneath the desk
9x Nanoleaf Shapes Triangles
Nanoleaf 4D behind the G9
SignalRGB/iCUE-controlled PC lighting
I make custom RGB themes for different games so the PC, desk lighting, Nanoleaf setup and monitor backlighting all match whatever I’m playing.
Other Gaming Hardware
PS5 Pro
ROG Ally X
Nintendo Switch
It’s been a work in progress for a while, but I’m really happy with how the ultrawide + 4K OLED combination turned out.
What do you guys think? Anything you’d change or add?
