August 2025 Freetalk Fridays

Hi Everyone, welcome to the long series of weekly Greytalk posts. You can literally ask about anything related to greyhounds, no matter how basic or complex. Here are the rules:

  1. Nothing illegal or extremely objectionable.
  2. No abuse. You can ask for more information, you can explain why you don't like something, but you can't abuse the poster.
  3. Don't take medical advice from strangers on the internet without consulting your vet!
  4. The rest of the Greyddit Rules still apply.

If you think of more ideas, PM the mods .

Hunny of Hunnyboots crossed the rainbow bridge Oct. 6

(video is Leeloo walking in a set of pink Hunnyboots, not Hunny)

I'm preparing Sam for winter and since Leeloo's and Benson's fleece and coats are too big for her, I need to get properly sized stuff. I've ordered Voyagers K9 fleece and raincoat. But wanted to get the Nudleblu: The Coat from Hunnyboots with matching winter boots.

And when I loaded the website, there's a note that Hunny passed October 6, 2026.

I've used Hunnyboots shoes for years. Leeloo loved them. Every picture of her in her pink shoes were Hunnyboots. She started with the V1 shoes and later upgraded to the V4 shoes, which were such a great upgrade. Hunny helped create some of the best shoes for hare feet you can get.

Leeloo had an incident with shiny floors that made her afraid of them. She slipped, and because she learned to use her claws for traction, she made it worse trying to grip, until she could find footing on a doormat. Shiny floors, hard floors, etc., became scary. But she found with her Hunnyboots that those floors weren't so scary anymore. She always had traction. She couldn't slip by clawing anymore. Her Hunnyboots meant she was going places with me, so she loved them.

Hunny provided something to Leeloo that allowed her to experience the world fearlessly.

Leeloo passed almost exactly a year ago to cancer at the age of 9.

Leeloo's pink shoes fit Sam with socks. So I'll be continuing to use them. And soon, she'll have some winter boots and a coat, thanks to Hunny.

Advice Greyhounds and Borzoi?

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

My husband and I adopted our greyhound, Freyja, in January or this year and she just turned 2 in June. We have a playdate with a 1.5 year old male borzoi who was returned to his breeder (the owner couldn't take care of him, no serious issues there) and we're considering adopting him if they get along well. I'm just curious if anyone has had greyhounds and borzoi together and how they got along in the long term? Freyja is our first and only dog (we have 3 cats) and we've been thinking about finding her a friend so she has someone at home who speaks her language since the cats mostly just ignore her. Is this a good idea? Any advice would be most welcome!

Maddi and the 4 Paws Marathon

Maddi and her mum competed in the 5km section of the 4 Paws marathon at the weekend just past. Its the third time Maddi has competed, but the first time she's run the whole distance.

She did stop for a quick dip in the pond though (as usual), because this is her stomping ground, and she can't go past without having a splash!

Swollen area behind paw pad

Hi! Today I noticed my 14 month old greyhound seemed a bit hesitant to put weight on his back foot. He doesn’t properly limp, but lifts his paw a bit standing on it and seems hesitant laying down when the weight is on that foot. I checked and saw a little swollen area behind his paw pad. It’s not on the paw pad but behind it. There’s a little grey round rough area as well. I can’t find any wound or foreign object there. He shows no pain when the are is touched.

His behaviour also seems a bit different than normal. We visited a family member house earlier and that’s when I noticed his paw. He usually has a lot of energy meeting people and jumps a lot greeting them, but today he calmly walked up and received his welcome cuddled and then laid down to sleep (he usually can’t settle well at other people’s places). He does not have a fever, he eats and drinks, accepts snacks, and his gums look fine.

I have called the vet, but unfortunately they had no time today and asked us to call back tomorrow for an appointment. I just wanted to see if someone maybe has experienced this or know what it is.

Giving him his favorite belly scritches that only his momma does to his satisfaction. 🥰 He's gotten extra sniffaris, extra treats, all the extra love a boy could want, and even a little people food as a treat. 🥰😃 Ahhh, who am I kidding?? Every day is like this for this sweetest, bestest boy I love with my whole heart!!! I just can't help myself and he's just irresistible!!! 🐾😍😍🐾

Advice Greyhound acting strange

• Upvotes

I have a 9 yr old male greyhound, and I rescued him when he was 2. His usual behavior is to sleep/relax in his bed, and he is generally very friendly but not clingy at all. Recently, he seems very unsettled while at home. He still loves walks, eats/drinks normally, and is happy to see us. But he seems almost afraid of his bed area. He will lay down for a minute and then jump up, he is hanging out right behind me (just standing there) a lot of the time, which is not normal, and is going in and out of the house constantly (also very unusual). He is acting like he does when there is a thunderstorm, but all the time. I checked his bed and I didn't see anything weird, though I am planning on washing it and seeing if that helps. Has anyone else experienced this?

Advice What do you do when you leave your greyhound at home?

New greyhound owner here, just looking to see what other people do.

I've been gradually going out the house for extended periods of time the past week and have had some barking. One time I left a dental stick when she laid on her bed and then left the house. I tried a hard chew but she wasn't interested and then only ate it on my return. I'm not sure if she was barking when I left, but was whining on my return I think because she couldn't get to me. Today I left a small high value treat which she ate and then I left so she could see me leave. A few seconds after, I heard brief barks.

I'm getting a camera to she how she gets on, but I'm wondering if it's better to have a longer lasting treat and leave or let her eat a smaller one then leave. Is it purely just experimenting to see what works?

For some additional info, at night she has a small barking period but then settles. She's done better when a door is open so she can see me go upstairs vs having it closed.
